Pension houses are mainly frequented by travelers. Many are managed by families of foreigners so one can often find a pension house with the "flavor" of one's own nationality.
Pension houses offer single and double rooms with fan. Rooms usually do not have private toilet and bath. However, in some pension houses, rooms with air-con and private toilet and showers are also offered.
Pension houses, especially in the Ermita and Malate area of Manila, are very often old houses which have been converted into lodging places, and where former large living areas have been divided into small rooms. Therefore, the walls of many pensions are made of thin plywood. The noise from adjoining rooms can be annoying.
Rooms in pension houses in prime locations in the tourist belt can cost about double of those farther away. All rates in pesos, including tax and serv-ice charge. Rooms are with fan, common toilet, and common bathroom unless other-wise indicated.
