Bowling

Bowling is the one sport where Filipinos and Filipinas definitely lead in Asia and do well in world competitions. At the last Asian Games in Seoul, the Philippines won three medals in bowling: Bong Coo a gold in the singles, the Philippine women gold in the team competition, and Cathy Solis a bronze in the singles. Members of the Philippine women team were: Bong Coo, Cathy Solis, Bec Watanabe, Arrianne Cerdena, and Cecilia Gaffud.

Bong Coo has taken home many other medals for The Country and also is a women master in bowling of the International Bowling Federation.

The best known figure in Philippine men's bowling is Rafael "Paeng" Nepomuceno. He had gathered several gold medals for The Country during the 11th SEA Games in 1981, and the 10th Asean Games in 1976. He is a three time world bowling champion, and was named by World Bowling Writers as a Bowler of the Year 1985.

Among the bowling alleys in Metro Manila, the Coronado Lanes in Makati is the most popular, perhaps because it is often the site of competitions and the hang-out of The Country 's top bowlers. Professional bowlers like Paeng Nepomuceno (male) and Arianne Cerdena (female) received awards for 1989 as outstanding athletes.
