Hibok-Hibok Volcano - southwest of Mambajao; still active; before climbing, the Philvolc-Station (11) on the way to the volcano should be contacted for information and a guide. A guide for the one day trip costs around 100 Pesos.

Tangub Hot Springs (8) - near Naasag, 9km west of Mambajao; undersea sulfur spouting vent

San Roque Church - in Catarman; a church-convent-watchtower built in the early part of the 17th century by 320 Augustinian friar-converts from coral lime and volcanic rock. Today, 2/3 of the structure are buried because of the 1871 eruption of Mt. Hibok-Hibok.

Sto Niño Springs (17) - in Barrio Sto. Niño, near Catarman; fresh pool fed by an underground cold stream

Ardent Springs (7) - near Mambajao (by tricycle); piping hot waters; used as cure for aching bones and tired feet. The Philippine Tourism Authority recently added picnic tables, cabañas, and dormitory-type lodgings at Ardent Spring.

White Island - off the shore at Agoho, west of Mambajao; a sandy limestone shoal surrounded by coral reefs where tropical underwater creatures seek shelter; no shade! White Island a.k.a. Medano is ideal for scuba diving, swimming, fishing and camping.

Undersea Cemetery (9) - 1km south of Naasag; a big concrete cross marks the site of a cemetery which sank during an eruption of the Hibok-Hibok Volcano; there is nothing to see under water since the cemetery is covered by sand

Macao Cold Springs (13) - 7km (4mi) south of Mambajao (by tricycle)

Tuasan Falls (18) - in the foothills of the Hibok-Hibok Volcano; by tricycle from Catarman; a fresh waterfall drops into a natural basin

BEACHES AND RESORTS

The best beaches are on the north coast, west of Mambajao where accommodation facilities are provided; they have gray fine sand and the clear water is suitable for swimming, snorkeling and aqua sports. However, many places have volcanic rocks and it's often uncomfortable to get into the water, to say the least.

TRANSPORTATION

Mambajao - Binone (45min): frequent jeepneys

Mambajao - Catarman: frequent jeepneys

Binone - Catarman: frequent jeepneys

It is possible to reach a destination on Camiguin within a day if one takes an early flight to Cagayan de Oro, then proceeds directly to the bus terminal of that city, boards a bus going to Butuan but gets off at Balingoan; there are 3 or 4 crossovers by a ferry that lands at Binone on Camiguin; jeepneys wait at the pier of Binone; most go to Mambajao.

If one arrives at Cagayan de Oro only around noon, it's advisable to proceed to Camiguin only the next day. This author has spotted one accommodation facility at Balingoan but it didn't seem too inviting. There are, however, plenty of cheap restaurants at Balingoan where one can spend the time waiting.

Once a week there are ship connections between Binone and Cagayan de Oro, and between Binone and Cebu City.
