Luzon

Geographically, Luzon may not be more than one Philippine island among many. But socially, one could well consider it as the mainland of the Philippines. Luzon's biggest city, the capital of the Philip-pines, Metro Manila, leads in almost every aspect of life; it is the po-litical, financial, social, educa-tional, cultural and manufacturing center of The Country .

Luzon also leads in tourist at-tractions of every kind: it has the world famous rice terraces in the central north, it has kilometer after kilometer of nice beaches in the northwest, and it even has, for those who do not want to see other tourists, in the north-east The Country 's region least frequented by tourists.

For clearness, Luzon is divided in this book into Central Luzon, Northwest Luzon, Central North Luzon, Northeast Luzon and South Luzon. Each of these areas has its own chapter.
