Rizal & Quezon Provinces

RIZAL PROVINCE

The province of Rizal was created on June 11, 1901 from the old provinces of Manila and the district of Morong. The territory thus formed was truncated November 8, 1975 when 12 of its towns were incorporated into the new Metro Manila area. This left Rizal province with the cities of San Mateo, Montalban, Cainta, Taytay, Angono, Antipolo, Binangonan, Teresa, Morong, Cardona, Tanay, Pililia and JalaJala. Some places, such as Makati, which were stripped from Rizal have agitated for a reunion.

Among points of interest is the artist colony and galleries where works of Blanco, Francisco, Miranda, Manansala, Pacheco etc. are displayed. There are the twin falls of Daranak and Batlag as well as old churches in Morong and Tanay.

"'Rizal is consideredas the cradle of the arts in the entire country,' declared Gov. Reynaldo R. San Juan during the recently concluded Rizal Arts Festival held at the Rizal Provincial Capitol. And no one disputed his statement.

The province is the home of national artists like painters Carlos v. "Botong" Francisco and Vicente S. Manansala and Professor Lucio D. San Pedro, a musician. As an artist's haven, the province has several galeries and art shrine. The Blanco Family Museum in Angono town features a collection of Jose V. In the town of Morong, you can find the gallery of Rafael G. Pacheco, visual artist uses only his bare fingers, knuckles and palms in creating his artworks, and has been known to finish his works in 20 minutes. At San Carlos, Binangonan is the Manansala Shrine where the works of national artist Vicente S. Manansala can be found.

Governor San Juan also said that the provincial government of Rizal has plans to build an Arts and Crafts Center to further enhance the growth of arts in the province. The proposed 10hectare arts center, he explained, will have picnic groves, floral gardens, ampitheater, restaurants, swimming pool, trade centers and art studios. The realization of this proposed project will certainly help young budding artist in the province.

And because most artists successfully capture scenic wonders and rural living on canvas, it could be said that the province's natural beauty has helped in nurturing the artistic talents of the Rizalenos.

Natural attractions and countryside sceneries can be found in this province named after the Philippine national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal. In Tanay town, you will find the 14meter high Daranak Falls.
