The three seaports are:
1) Colombo - The purpose-built, fully equipped JAYE Container Terminal which has two common user berths, is 632 meters long, and its draught of up to 13 meters makes it capable of handling up to two fourth generation container vessels at a time. The two berths at the JAYE Terminal provide complete container terminal facilities equipped with modern cargo handling equipment.

The JAYE Container Terminal includes a Container Freight station of 5,400 M2 for stuffing and destuffing of all types of cargo. The other container terminal, at Queen Elizabeth Quay, is 425 meters long with a maximum draught of 12 meters.

Over 65% of dry cargo handled is now in containerized form. Facilities are also available for handling ‘LASH’ and ‘RO-RO vessels. Bulk handling and dry dock facilities are also available.

2) Trincomalee - The port of Trincomalee is one of the finest natural harbours in the world. It has a water area of 2,023 hectares, an unlimited draught and can accommodate the largest tankers with ease.

The Trincomalee harbour provides ample space for lay-up ships and tankers, and has been used for the purpose by several ship owners.

3) Galle - Sri Lanka’s third major port is the port of Galle, which can accommodate two vessels at along- side berths. It has a water area of 320 hectares and is equipped with transit sheds having road and rail access.
