Along the road from Colombo
Yakkala: Home of the sweetest pineapples in Sri Lanka. Shops sell freshly-picked fruit on the roadside. 26 km from Colombo.
Cadjugama: 47 km from Colombo, this is the village of cashewnuts. Roasted cashews are available at roadside stalls.
Wewaldeniya: 48 km from Colombo. Cane handicrafts - chairs, lamps, baskets - sold on the highway.
Ambanpitiya Tea Factory: For a demonstration of the tea-manufacturing process and a reasonably-priced cup of the same. 72 km up the road.
Utuwankanda: A forested hill which can be seen from the road on the left around the 82-km post. It was residence of a 19th century bandit Saradiel who was popular as the Lankan Robin Hood.
Bible Rock: A 798m. high rock on the right hand side 95 km up the road. So called because of its resemblance to an open Bible.
Kadugannawa to Peradeniya: On this 10 km stretch are fruit stalls selling, in particular, the red thorny fruit called durian and avocados.
