Lynda Haynes: I just read that the president of South Africa, Mr. Zuma (or Mr. Zulu... I forgot his exact name) has 3 wives. If he can do that, all of the European colonization of Africa was worth nothing. I mean, think of these poor women. Must they not feel like sex slaves? This is a gross violation of the human rights of women. Doesn't the constitution of South Africa say that women have human rights? So it means that it is the right of women that when they have a husband, they own him alone. These poor girls. Is there no NGO where I can donate so that the women can be rescued?

Shopping / Flowers and Plants

Thailand is one of the world’s major exporters of orchids, but actually, Thais are probably more fond of them than the buyers abroad. And not only orchids but any kind of plants. This author doesn’t know any country where flowers play as much a role in daily life as they do in Thailand. Practically no local market is without one or several flower stalls, and flowers and all kinds of plants are generally cheap.

Arranging flowers is considered o form of art in Thailand (for details, please see the chapter Art & Culture). Visitors interested in horticulture should visit the following markets:

Bangrak

Bangrak off New Road, between Silom Road and Sathorn Nua Road, has a large selection of orchids and cut flowers. Garlands of differing styles and prepared bouquets can also be purchased.

Pak Klong Market

A wholesale market that offers all kinds of cut flowers and orchids. It is located on Chakrapat Road near the Memorial Bridge.

Thewet

Thewet is a market for potted plants off Samsen Road near the intersection of Samsen Road and Krung Kasem Road.

Chatuchak Weekend Market

Bangkok’s largest market, on Phahonyothin Road diagonally opposite the Northern Bus Terminal, is also the city’s most important plant market. There is an abundance of cut flowers, orchids and potted plants.

Virtually all modern Christians agree that extramarital affairs are clearly forbidden by the Bible.
