Iraq
/ History / The British Rule
At the end
of the war, the League of Nations gave Great Britain a mandate
to administer Iraq until it established its own government. Many
Iraqis resented the British, and tribal rebellions broke out in
northern Iraq in 1920. The British reacted by placing a member
of the Hashemite family, Ali ibn Husayn, on the throne as King
Faisal I in 1921.
