Approximately 20 minutes northwest of Jerash is Qalat er-Rabad, or Ajlun Castle, from where the Arab forces of Salaheddine (Saladin) defeated the Crusaders in the 12th century. The Ajlun mountains are famous for their lush vegetation and thick green forests.
