Pan-Philippine highway and is frequently plied by Philtranco buses

- Catarman (1.5 hrs.) frequent jeepneys
Catbalogan
- Borongan several buses daily; because the roads in the eastern
part of the island are mostly unpaved, traveling there depends on
the weather
Flights
PAL connects
Manila with Samar every day (weather permitting), but the flights
are alternately to Calbayog and to Catarman).
Sea
Transportation
Twice a day,
there is a ferry connection between Matnog on Luzon and San
Isidro on the northern tip of Samar (old pier at Allen).
The MV
Tacloban City of William Lines passes by Catbalogan every
week (Tuesday around noon) on its journey to Tacloban,
and then again (Wednesday around 18:00) on its way back to Manila.
Travel time between Catbalogan and Manila is 22 hours.
The MV Cebu
Princess of Sulpicio Lines touches Calbayog in the middle
of the night between Saturdays and Sundays on her journey to Ormoc
(Leyte) and Cebu City. On her return journey to Manila
the vessel again passes by Calbayog on Tuesday evening; this
ship, however, does thereafter not proceed straight to Manila but
makes another stopover at Masbate; travel time between Calbayog
and Manila is 36 to 40 hours, considerably longer than the travel
time on the MV Tacloban City between Catbalogan and Manila.
Local shipping
lines connect Catbalogan as well as Calbayog with Cebu City several
times a week (travel time around 14 hours)
