It's Friday, May 15th, 2026.It's the 135th day of the year, and there's a major severe weather outbreak on the way.By Monday, a dangerous setup could unleash strong tornadoes and destructive winds across a wide stretch of the central U .S.And there's a lot of other stuff going on as well, so let's jump right into it.The severe weather hibernation is officially over.
We've got some severe weather going on today, and the second domino officially falls tomorrow on Saturday across the central plains. We're looking at another enhanced risk for severe storms stretching from Nebraska down into Texas and Omaha. We're talking about Lincoln and Des Moines also right in the path there. If you look at our video just a couple of days ago, I had this Saturday set up targeting Oklahoma and Kansas more so, but the threat has shifted north into Nebraska and Iowa a little bit more, where better moisture is going to be in place and we're closer to the low pressure center. So that leaves Oklahoma and Kansas too hot and too dry for widespread severe storms. But storms are going to fire up late in the afternoon, roughly around 4 to 6 p .
m., and they're going to roll into the evening. We've got a dry line sharpening up across the plains. And a disturbance is gonna be ejecting out of the Rockies and that's gonna pull up a bunch of Gulf moisture Like they usually do now early on these individual supercells are gonna be dropping hen egg -sized hail that could definitely crack your windshield So make sure you're ready for that and we're also gonna be talking about potentially 60 to 75 mile per hour wind gusts that could snap the heck out of tree limbs. The tornado threat is isolated, but if any storm latches onto the warm front out here, it's definitely going to be able to put down a tornado.Okay, I think that's absolutely on the table.
I think that's something that we should not be ruling out at all.So if you live anywhere from Omaha down to Wichita, your Saturday evening outdoor plans probably need to have a sturdy roof nearby, at least, if not something more substantial than that. Now, as bad as Saturday gets, Sunday is the day this whole sequence really escalates into something genuine.dangerous.
has already gotten severe weather on the day 1 .8 million people from Ne including Lincoln, Sioux F three days ago.
Once agai that sunday had the poten more widespread. And unfo exactly what's happening got a big upgrade for thi looks like the most volat open up on sunday aftern going to extend well into Which makes this really dangerous because we're gonna have tornadoes after dark potentially We're gonna have this deepening area of low pressure Cranking up a powerful river of warm humid air at the low levels pump an explosive storm fuel into the upper Midwest This is actually a pretty remarkable system I know a lot of folks in Oklahoma City in Wichita are wondering if they're off the hook with this one as well You're actually still in the slight risk for this one for isolated supercells along the dry line But the bullseye is still gonna be way off to your north in Nebraska and Iowa.Early in the afternoon, expect individual supercells capable of dropping strong tornadoes and giant hail, especially up here in the highest risk area.
And unfortunately, if you're going to be out there catching the Brewers and Twins game at Target Field on Sunday afternoon, you got to make sure you have the WeatherWise app running in the background because you want to track those, you know, cells and warnings and stuff, because you're going to be able to know what's going on long before the stadium ops makes a call on whether or not we have to clear the seats.
Now, as the cold front when it sags to the south through the evening, some individual cells are going to merge into a fast moving squall line. And if that line forms the way that I think it will right now, we're definitely going to be talking about destructive straight line winds over 75 miles per hour. That's over hurricane force in some areas. That's the kind of wind that tears shingles off of roofs, and it takes down large trees, and it kills power to entire neighborhoods by dinner time.So if you had plans for a Sunday evening barbecue anywhere near Omaha or Des Moines, I would cancel it.Okay, or move it indoors, especially before sundown.
This is a textbook may severe weather set up.Do not take Sunday lightly. And here's where it gets really serious.Monday is actually setting up to be one of the most dangerous days of this entire sequence, if not one of the most dangerous days of the year so far.
The ingredients are coming together for a major severe weather outbreak, and that's not hyperbole. That's just a matter of fact. There's a massive 30 % severe risk area covering the central plains and the upper Midwest. We're talking about over 11 million people in the crosshairs from Kansas City up through Omaha and even into Madison, Wisconsin.
in this system for a while and the latest data has certainly brought an upgrade to the severity that I'm expecting.
I think that we're almost certainly going to get a moderate risk, a four out of five from the Storm Prediction Center out of this. That's definitely on the table for Monday. And it's absolutely plum wild that I'm saying that four days out, like this is the kind of confidence that we've built.normally do not have. But anomalous system that's br instability levels way fa just coming together perf The threat begins monday get going.
But the most i danger rolls through the We've seen bits of ener this trough in previous d stream of enhanced risks But monday is when the ac barges into the plains an of tilt that this trough is going to have is going to create incredible lift over a huge unstable atmosphere. It's a textbook severe weather and tornado outbreak kind of system.
Picture a giant vacuum pulling air upward. That's what's going to be happening out here.People always ask how bad a 30 % risk really is at this range. It means that we've got a lot of confidence in a widespread organized severe weather event days in advance. It's not very common. And usually, whenever we get to the day one,
outlook on something like this, we have once again, at least a moderate risk of severe weather.
Now, As the dry line and cold front sweep east, individual supercells are going to explode. They're going to tap into that extreme instability, and they're going to produce massive hail and destructive winds. The worst window for Kansas City and Omaha is going to be in the late afternoon through the evening commute, right when these storms peak.
That means you could be driving home from work in blinding rain and baseball -size hail, which is another reason to make sure you have the WeatherWise app with you so that you can track these hail cores and rotating supercells as they come through. You want to be prepared before you get on the road so that you don't get caught.caught becoming a bridge bozo under an overpass because you didn't look, okay? We're just trying to help you out here.By late evening, these storms are going to grow into a massive complex that sweeps towards the Great Lakes in a long duration event that's going to keep people up all night. There's also a slight risk for excessive rainfall stacked on top of all this, so the training storms could easily cause flash flooding in urban areas.
So definitely keep your eyes out in this area.Don't be scared, be prepared, but definitely be aware of what's going on.And let's dive in a little bit deeper here on Monday because we actually need to talk about the tornado threat specifically because the ceiling on this event.could be pretty high.

So if you We're talking about Topeka, Tulsa, Joplin, even a little bit farther north than that.
The prime zone, it looks like it's going to beright in here where these discrete supercells are most likely to drop tornadoes and they could be big ones. When you combine as much wind shear as we're going to have with the extreme instability that we're going to have, I fully expect the atmosphere to produce potentially long track EF2 or EF3 or stronger tornadoes. It is absolutely nuts that we're saying this right now. There's going to have to be a major change in the forecast for this to not happen.
Okay.Uh, this is once again, a perfect storm set up for tornadoes out here, and I'm hoping for the best.I hope that the models do change, but as of right now, the trend has been consistently aggressive. And if the cold front moves any slower than expected, the window for isolated tornadoes actually stays open for even longer. So that's another thing that we've got to consider. And once the sun goes down, these storms are going to move into a fast moving squall line.
And even though the tornado threat is going to go down, we're still going to be talking about widespread hurricane force, wind gusts and hail and flooding throughout the night.Again, this is going to be a pretty dangerous and robust nocturnal tornado threat. And I've got to remind you once again, this is exactly why we built y 'all call a rain wrap tornado moving through your neighborhood at 1 a .m.is never a good thing. But having a phone quietly vibrating nearby or, you know, relying on hearing the tornado sirens or something isn't really going to cut it.
I would personally recommend having those weather alerts turned on your phone. And of course, as always, I highly recommend y 'all call. You can sign up at y 'all call.app.And for just $20 a y you when you're under a w sure that you get up and conscious and make sure t into your safe spot.
