Good evening, it's great to have you with us here on a very busy Thursday night. We're watching this growing storm set to become a major hurricane now. And the new forecast tonight, the potential paths coming very close to the East Coast will take you through the possible scenarios in a moment. But we begin tonight with this high stakes summit between President Trump and Vladimir Putin face to face in Anchorage, Alaska, this time tomorrow night. Both the president and Putin looking to define expectations tonight. What each of them said today and the bigger question, of course, what could this mean for Ukraine?
In Moscow, Vladimir Putin calling President Trump's efforts to try to reach an agreement on Ukraine, quote, sincere. But Putin also made it clear he has other goals. President Trump tonight saying he believes Putin would like to see a deal, but also says he gives this a 25 percent chance of failing. ABC's chief White House correspondent, Barry Bruce, leading us off from Alaska tonight.
Tonight on the eve of their high stakes summit in Alaska, Russian President Vladimir Putin trying to lay the groundwork, heaping praise on President Trump. Putin saying the current American administration is making quite energetic and sincere efforts
to stop the hostilities, stop the crisis and reach agreements that are of interest to all parties involved in this conflict. Putin saying Trump wants to create long-term conditions for peace, both between our countries and in Europe and in the world. But the Russian leader saying he has other goals from this meeting that go beyond the war in Ukraine
That he wants to discuss nuclear arms control the Kremlin saying trade and economic cooperation will also be on the agenda Trump today not ruling out those conversations, but saying his focus is on ending the war. I think that
President Putin would like to see a deal I think if I weren't president he he would take over all of Ukraine. But I am president, and he's not gonna mess around with me.
But Ukrainian President Zelensky, who won't be in the room, says Putin is bluffing. And today, Trump admitting he thinks there's a 25% chance this summit will fail. But if it doesn't,
Trump says he wants to quickly bring Putin and Zelensky together for another meeting even saying Zelensky could join them here in Alaska.
I think president Putin will make peace, I think president Zelensky will make peace will see if they can get along and if they can it will be great.
And David one big question will president Trump hold a joint press conference here tomorrow night side by side with Vladimir Putin? The White House press secretary said that was the plan, but Trump later saying though that would be nice. If the summit doesn't end well, he'll just have his own press conference and head home.
David? Mary Bruce, part of our teams on the ground from Alaska all the way to Ukraine. And Mary will be on the air with me this time tomorrow. The moment we see those leaders will be on the air live. Mary, thank you. We turned out a tropical storm Aaron gaining strength on track to become the first major hurricane of the season in the Atlantic. The new forecast just in and tonight what this could also be a new tropical depression forming in the Gulf. We're watching that's heading toward Texas. But first tropical storm Aaron you see it right here churning in the Atlantic slowly gaining strength at at this hour, but ready to head into warmer waters,
expected to become a major category three hurricane. The forecast models tonight showing its potential path, some dangerously close to the US. The key factor, a cold front now, hovering over the East Coast, that could determine if this is held off the coast.

The reason for our presence here in Los Angeles is to make first off Los
Angeles a safer community. Newsom's team saying the action was meant as intimidation because inside the hall, the governor and state lawmakers were announcing a partisan redistricting plan to combat a similar Republican led effort in Texas backed by President
Trump. I hope you have. I back we've got to meet fire with fire.
Agents seem patrolling the area on foot and in vehicles before eventually entering the nearby federal building.
Right outside at this exact moment are dozens and dozens of ICE agents. You think it's coincidental?
There was no reason in the world for them to come here. Nothing to do with safety. In fact, this is the exact opposite of keeping our city safe. We do not need them here and they have no business to come here and provoke this.
And David, a short time ago, we learned of a death in a separate immigration raid also here in Los Angeles. A man apparently fleeing ICE agents was hit by a car and killed. Meantime, Governor Newsom's office telling me that outside that event right here, the man who was arrested was merely selling strawberries and the Department of Homeland Security also weighing in saying this operation was merely about enforcing the law, David.
