Albanese left reeling as Hanson’s ‘Fire the Liar’ campaign tops $4 million

because it's another day and another bad poll, confirming that at least for the time being, Australians have had enough of the two major parties.And that's a shocker right there.A massive five point lift to One Nation now and a 29 percent primary, a one point drop to Labor.They're behind now on 28, a three point fall for the coalition.They're down to a low 20 percent primary.But as bad as the party vote is for Labor, The real deadweight in the numbers is the Prime Minister.

Now, I don't think I've ever seen a political leader fall this far this fast.Just have a look at the numbers in today's Nines Resolve poll.The question is, who do you want to be Prime Minister?Well, here's the result.Pauline Hanson's in the lead as the politician that more Australians than anyone in charge of our country.Given how much Albanese hates Hanson and everything he thinks she stands for, This poll would be like salt into an open wound for the Prime Minister and the political left.

After all, they've invested almost three decades demonising Hanson only for voters to now prefer her over everyone else.And what would be discombobulating them, well, most of them at least, is that few in Labor are able to understand why she's now a hit.Now, they don't understand it.because they can't get past their own antipathy for Hansen.But unless they do, and they do the rational analysis as needed, they won't know why Labor voters are deserting them.That's the pain point for Labor, that the woman who for 30 years has been the great nemesis of the left is now beating them.

One of the most vilified figures in public life, mocked and berated, is now the one that voters most want to see into the lodge.Can you just imagine all the heads that are exploding out there amongst the activist class?Hanson as PM?I mean, this is triggering beyond belief.Never mind the fact that she's a senator and unless she moves to the lower house, finds a seat and wins it, well, it's all a moot point anyway.Now, internally, I think the Labor hardheads are starting to understand what the Prime Minister still refuses to acknowledge.

That is that a growing number of the Labor vote, particularly their old working class vote, is shifting across to One Nation.And the more that Albanese derides Hanson or insinuates that this is all fake news, the more he is hastening their departure.I mean, just listen again to this comment last week, which I said at the time was particularly stupid.

Did she?What evidence is there?

Well, that gaslighting was dumb, because all it did was boost the donation tally as supporters said, well, OK, Albo, we'll show you.And they did.When the prime minister intervened with that gaslighting jibe, the donation tally was around 1 .5 million.Well, tonight, as I said, it's a whopping 1 .1 million.Rather than kill off momentum, that sneer from the prime minister, well, he just kicked it along.Albanese's problem is that his personal antipathy or hatred towards Hansen obscures any cool -headed analysis about how he should deal with her and what sort of action Labor could and should take.

Hansen's got under Albanese's skin and it shows.He's let his personal fire and anger take the better of him, get the better of him.And he's the one now with this low trust value with voters.If he goes up against her, he'll end up the loser.It's also worth noting that this funding boost for One Nation has come from ordinary battlers.At last count, almost 70 ,000 people putting their hand into their own pocket in the middle of a cost of living crisis to turf out the Prime Minister.

And it's the PM here.This is personal.That tagline, fire the liar, hits home.And for a bloke with one of the biggest glass jaws in politics, probably unembedded by Kevin Rudd, Albert Easy will be devastated by all of this.For One Nation, yes, the money.Of course, the money is important because political campaigning relies on dollars.

But it's more than that.By getting people to donate, anyone handing over cash now has bought a stake in the success of One Nation.This is now personal to them.And to be honest, I think that's worth almost as much as the money that's been raised because it creates on the ground advocates.It builds a sense of fraternity, of community.And of course, it fuels momentum.

On Wednesday, for the first time in her entire political career, Pauline Hanson will front the National Press Club to outline her political vision and critically take questions from the Canberra Press Gallery in The Root.Now, believe me, it'll be standing room only.How she handles their questions will be closely watched by people like me.Can she turn this spike in the polls into more than just an anti -elbow vote?And to do that, she doesn't just have to shut down the professional Hanson haters from the press gallery.I think she'll do well enough in that at the Q &A part of the day.

But I'll be looking at the speech component.what she says in terms of policy and framework.Is it solid?Is it well thought through?Does it deal with the issues and give solutions to the challenges facing Australia?Because the real test for One Nation is not just to ventilate grievances, that's fine.

They've been very effective at that.But it's now to lift into another gear altogether and put solutions on the table.People forget that it took Nigel Farage almost 30 years in politics to become an overnight success, first entering the European Parliament in 1999 and moving through a whole series of political resurrections in the time to now.To get where he is now, as almost everyone concedes, the bloke most likely to be elected Prime Minister at the next British election.Farage is about 10 years younger than Hanson, but she herself is eight years younger than Donald Trump, who today celebrated his 80th birthday in Washington.So these days, anything is possible.

Now, I am not yet convinced that One Nation's ready to be a party of government.I want to see more meat on the policy bone and I want to see a bigger and more capable team up to handling the big cabinet portfolios that government demands before I will concede that.But there is no doubt that they are right now the most effective party of opposition.That's the truth, as hard as it might be to hear, for some in the coalition.And to amplify that point, here's an exclusive look for you tonight at this cracker of an ad that's going to run throughout Wednesday night's State of Origin footy match.This is to a TV audience in the millions.

All funded, let's not forget, by the very donations that the Prime Ministertried to deny were real.
