By my last count, I'm going hands on with over 20 games over the next four days. And while I can't say which games I'll be playing, I can tell you that you're going to like at least a few of them, at least a little bit.But my guess is you'll like a lot of them a lot.So you know what to expect from me this week. You'll notice that this show is going live a touch earlier than usual as we wanted to cover the Sony showcase before I got on the long ass plane ride over here.two other showcases, Summer Games Fest Live and the Xbox Showcase.
I'll be covering those next week when I'm back on Aussie soil for the simple reason that I'm booked up from basically the minute I land until the minute I take off, so I won't have any time to script a video. So do expect that news to come in the same way that we serve up most of our news.late.But not on our website thisweekinvideogames .com.Right there you can expect up to the minute breaking news and that s one of the main reasons we ve built that site.
So if you like your summer games news piping hot and fresh then head over to thisweekinvideogames .com and sign up either for free or as a paying supporter to get tons of exclusive content.Okay enough preamble, we ve got a big week of showcases to cover so let s get started.Team Blue, show us what you got. While Sony promised an extended look at the combat in Insomniac s upcoming Wolverine game, and that s exactly what we got, it kicked off the show with around 7 minutes of raw gameplay showcasing combat that looks fast and brutal as hell, it was so bloody in fact that I ve got to avoid showing too much of it otherwise this video will get demonetised. Also, did you notice how quickly that blood disappears from his body after he starts moving again?
Feels like it could hang around just a touch longer. But yeah, overall looking very solid, especially love the sheer variety of animations here, showcasing all the ways Logan can slice and dice henchmen.Having said that, it does look very Spider -Man, in the sense that the overall combat rhythm and enemy behavior feels very similar to Insomniac's iconic superhero trilogy.I'm hoping they have a few more surprises in store with regards to how this plays and all the carnage that Logan can dish out.It was also revealed that Logan's two biggest crushes, Jean Grey and Sabretooth, would be in the game.really have a Wolverine game without them, so that s great.
Personally, I was more interested in the Omega Red teaser that briefly flashed up, as well as those marching Sentinels. This is clearly pulling from a wide base of Wolverine and X -Men lore, and I m very into it.So that s Wolverine, a very strong opening salvo from Sony, and luckily one that we won t have to wait too much longer for, since it is releasing on September 15th exclusively on the PS5, the first of many, many games in this showcase releasing in September to avoid GTA 6.After that was the return of a beloved IP.Roll the trailer.
will no doubt be the stuff of tales twice told throughout the glade of dreams.
But hey, this'll do in a pinch.Speaking of co -op, we finally got a gameplay reveal for the debut title from Ikumi Nakamura Studio. It's called Kimuri.Check it out.I was like, oh my god, it s an actual honest -to -goodness video game.Christmas is saved.
It s you and two other friends hunting yokai and gaining their abilities to help you hunt other, stronger yokai. It s got flashy action combat and fluid traversal across a dense city with tons of verticality. We ve all been keeping a very close eye on this thing ever since its reveal back in 2023, and it looks like we won t have to wait too much longer for it since it is slated for release sometime this year. Also, Nakamura, We never forgot you, don't worry.Next up, it was time for a look at Amazon's new Tomb Raider game.Show them, Stu.
This is Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis. Not much to say about this one to be honest, it s definitely Tomb Raider sporting some dual pistol action, dinosaurs, spelunking puzzles and impressive visuals to boot.Looks like it s shaping up rather nicely, but we do have a little wait before we can play it for ourselves as it s been given a release date of February 12th, 2027, which is actually a delay since it was earlier targeting a 2026 release. That s not the only game with dinosaurs.Following Tomb Raider was the reveal of The Lost Wild, a dinosaur -filled first -person survival horror game.If it looks familiar, that s probably because there was a game teased a little while ago called Jurassic Park Survival from from Saber Interactive that look just like this.
But yeah, this is not the same game, just kind of the same idea, which I'm all about to be honest, because the more of these types of games that exist, the more likely Capcom is to eventually go fuck it and remake Dino Crisis. The Lost Wild is also out next year, no exact release date just yet.Dune Awakening is getting a new single player mode coinciding with a PlayStation 5 release on September 22nd.Also coming to the PS5 is the excellent ARPG No Rest for the Wicked from the Ori developers. After over two years in early access, it's finally hitting 1 .0 release in October of this year, and at such time, it'll be released on PS5 and PC with other platforms to follow later.Definitely worth keeping your eye on this one.
I played the early access of it back when it first launched and it was already excellent.Moon Studios have really got something special here. Then we got another look at Onimusha, Way of the Sword.I feel like this has appeared at almost every showcase since its reveal, but now it's finally got a release date, September 25th this year.If you want to get your hands on it right now though, you're in luck because they also announced a free demo that's availableright now.
Enjoy.Horror game fans were treated to a look at the next Silent Hill entry, with this one being in first person. Here s a peek.A real focus on stealth here it seems, hiding in closets and throwing rocks to lure away enemies.Super keen for this one, as modern Silent Hill games have been generally very good. And this one s not too far off either, as it s releasing just a day before Onimusha on September 24th this year.
Rip my sleep schedule in September, it s gonna be bad.Next up was Ace Combat 8 with a better look at its story, which seems packed with hype and melodrama and we wouldn t have it any other way.The team also teased a pre -order for a port of 2006 s Ace Combat Zero The Belkan War.Not a bad pre -order bonus.Anyway, I love me some Ace Combat, so very much looking forward to this one as well.It s set for release October a second of this year.
pretty damn good.It s out sometime in 2027, please look forward to it.Control Resident got a release date with the trailer teasing a little more of its world and story. This one comes out the same day as Silent Hill on September 24th of this year, which is also a day before Onimusha.Really feels like these studios are going to have to shift these dates around a little because this is getting silly. This is followed by the announcement that RuneScape Dragonwilds, the survival game set in the world of the classic MMO, is coming to PS5 in Fall of 2026 and it arrives PS Plus Day 1.
Then we got the announcement of a very unexpected sequel.Take a look. This is Until Dawn 2.Like the first game, it s an interactive narrative horror thriller, this time set on an island with a bunch of ghost -hunting influencers who find out they ve got a little more than they bargained for.It stars Neil Newborn as one of the main characters.Notably, this isn t being developed by the original Until Dawn developer Supermassive Games, instead coming from Firesprite, a co -development studio that s worked on the Horizon Call of the Mountain VR game.
Do wonder if they ll be able to pull it off to be honest, but I guess we ll find out when it releases sometime next year. Finally, it was time for that one more thing, and I gotta tell ya, It's a good one.Rollers too.feel like Sony were doing a bit of a cheeky bait and switch with the Wolverine thing being the headliner for this show, because yeah to close things out Sony both revealed and showed off roughly 20 minutes of gameplay of the next God of War game. This is God of War Laufey, where you play as Faye, wife of the Ghost of Sparta himself and mother to Atreus, who s trying to find her way back to her family through the afterlife, specifically the afterlife of the gods, and by that I mean all the gods, because yeah it looks like some gods from other mythologies are stirring up trouble here, and we ll have to team up with this talking sword and this jelly cube thing to drive them The Jelly Cube is voiced and even mo -capped by Jack Quaid, best known for his work on Red Letter Media, but he's also appeared in other smaller, less notable productions, including The Boys and Oppenheimer. On that note, Debra Ann Wolfe is reprising her role as Faye, and she's already shown off some pretty killer acting chops here, I think she'll make for a really fantastic lead.
As expected from this studio, the facial capture and overall visuals look top -class, as does the combat. It does look to play quite similar to the prior games, but Faye is somewhat lighter on her feet and also magically inclined.Faye is also able to leap high into the air to dodge attacks or juggle enemies, DMC character.Honestly, I think this just looks fantastic, this is like a God of War fever dream.Sadly though, it looks like we will be waiting a little while for it, as there is currently no release window listed at all between this and the God of War trilogySony Santa Monica surely had their work cut out for them, but I m sure they re cooking up one hell of a feast for us.

Get started freeSo overall, a very strong showcase from Sony I think, some surprising reveals, release dates for games that we were already looking forward to, and in particular I really liked how this showcase was like 90 % actual gameplay rather than pure cinematics or mere title drops, typified by that final God of War Lafayette reveal. Also, September is like ridiculously stacked now, I saw Jason Schreier tweet out that you d almost be more afraid to release a game in September, then next to GTA 6 at this point, and he s not wrong. Before we only had the likes of Blood of the Dawnwalker and Dawn of War 4 releasing that month, but now add to that Wolverine, Onimusha, Silent Hill and Control Resonant, and then Ace Combat 8 and Rain Man at the start of October and it s going to be a hell of a time for games. One like equals one prayer as I try to find the time to cover them all.has anything to say about it.I know you might be tired of hearing about Destiny at this point, especially given how long I banged on about it last week, but I think what s going on over the last week is worth talking about.
The news that Destiny 2 would be getting a final update on June 9th has kickstarted a defiant movement within the community, spurring players, content creators and even the game s very own voice actors and developers to loudly voice their support for the continued existence of the game.Perhaps leading the charge in the hope of the future is Destiny s principal comms manager, DMG04.He's always been great at keeping a really open dialogue with the community, and after reposting a final thank you note at the bottom of the maintenance mode announcement, he's been highlighting all of the huge updates coming to the game on June 9th that might have slipped by.This includes a metric ton of returning loot, game mode adjustments, catalysts for all exotic weapons, build craft changes, and so much more, emphasizing the fact that this is one of, if not the biggest, non -expansion updates the game has ever received.Hopium levels reached critical on June 1st when he tweeted out, quote, into that good night end quote. He later claimed he was just watching Interstellar again, but no
is buying that my dude, you know what you did and we love it. ThroughoutThroughout the week we d also seen the games many voice actors posting videos about how much the game meant to them, including the voices of renowned characters such as Eris Morn, The Drift Up, Lodi, Oryx and Sabathun.I think this one from Lodi s actor Brian Villalobos was my favourite, here s a little snippet.
does not become destiny until you share it and play it with other people, until you make connections with it, until you create community around it, until you create art based on it, until you create new lore and headcanons and all of the incredible spectrum of beauty and inspiration and love and just humanity.
that has come out of this game.of internecine review bombing that s affected both Marathon and Destiny 2.And look, I ll be real with you guys, I don t love this.I get the passion and the desire to do everything in your power to fight, but I think framing the situation as Marathon vs Destiny isn t going to achieve the desired results, and no matter the outcome, it s going to leave a nasty hangover, whereby Bungie s community is divided by the memory of a destructive feud.I m not saying everyone has to support Marathon if they don t want to, since it s perfectly fine to not enjoy a game, and I m also not saying we can t be critical of Marathon, since, like Destiny, it s far from perfect.I m just saying we don t need to position this as a battle between these two games.
The real battle is us against Sony's short -sighted leadership, who've created this zero -sum game where the better solution is to redistribute the chipsso that both franchises can exist. They do, after all, target very different types of players, so it's in Sony's best interest to foster both of these games, maximising their chances of pulling in a broader cross -section of people who want different things, but are united in their love of Bungie shooters.Anyway, TLDR, see you on June 9th.It's time to make our own Fate Guardians. The game has been delisted from the PlayStation Store and its multiplayer servers will fully shut down on the 25th of November this year.
Sony warns in an email, quote, content post launch, support for the game fizzled out towards the back end of 2022.Rest in peace, I guess.so it can have the dedicated moment it deserves." And this sentiment was supported by Xbox s chief content officer Matt Booty, who when speaking on the official Xbox podcast says the company must quote be in a place where we ve got a regular cadence of games end quote and that portfolio management moves like this help achieve that. And fair enough I guess, as touched on in their tweet there is a good line up of games releasing on Xbox this year between Gears of War, E -Day, the next Call of Duty title, Control Resonance, Star Wars Galactic Racer and of course GTA 6.Even as someone who does this for a living it s difficult to
keep on top of all of it, so I personally will be glad to have some space around this one.And hey, if it means Playground get a bit more time to polish things up, you won t hear me complaining. The Stop Killing Games movement has made some serious headway it seems, as the California State Assembly has now passed the Protect Our Games Act, which requires video games companies to quote give players advance notice before shutting down server -dependent games end quote, as well as quote provide a way to keep purchased games playable afterward, such as offline access to community servers or another workable option." The bill passed in an overwhelming vote, tallying 43 -16, with both Democratic and Republican support, and will now move to the California State Senate for deliberation. This is pretty awesome news.Stop Killing Games has been advocating for the preservation of live service games since mid -2024, following Ubisoft pulling the plug on the crew.
And with all the similar shutdowns that have been going on across the industry, especially this past year, this win couldn't have come at a better time.Nice work guys, keep it up.beta access, because this past week has apparently seen an influx of hackers using GTA 6 beta scams to infect users devices with malware, according to an investigation published by NordVPN.One common scam was offering exclusive beta keys for console users in which they were asked to fill in a form and complete a fake verification step before subscribing to paid services or downloading potentially unwanted apps.Another involves a fake GTA 6 installer disguised as an Nvidia graphics driver file that plants malware into your device.NordVPN have also spotted clones of popular piracy and repackaging sites that claim to be sharing GTA 6 files for Windows users, despite the fact that the game isn't even launching on PC, at least not at first.
There have also been hundreds of phishing sites masquerading as Rockstar Social Club login pages, and a fake GTA 6 beta app for Android that contains nothing but ads pointing you to other unwanted subscription servers and malware downloads.TLDR, there is no GTA 6 beta going on right now, so do not click on anything you see claiming that there is.This almost goes without saying, I suppose, but you know, hackers and scammers are getting pretty sneaky these days, so it's worth staying extra vigilant.GTA 5.5M is the multiplayer server provider created by CFX, the modding team that was acquired by Rockstar back in August of 2023.And in January of this year, Rockstar launched the official CFX marketplace, which contains both free and paid mods for 5M and its Red Dead Redemption 2 counterpart, RedM.
So it's a little bit similar to what Bethesda have done with their Creation Club. But yeah, multiplayer servers have been a huge part of GTA V's longevity, especially within its role playing communities. And it kind of sucks to see modding consolidated like this.At the time of writing, the live tracker on RageMP's website says it's currently hosting 285 online servers with over 5 ,000 players online, and now those server owners have to migrate to a platform that's being actively monetized by Rockstar.I don't know man, I guess it's their right to do it, but still, it is a huge bummer. So what got announced or delayed this week?
Well aside from the State of Play stuff, there were a few other tidbits that snuck in ahead of the Summer Games Fest craziness. We already mentioned the more or less expected Witcher 3 expansion last week called Songs of the Past, which we got a few more details about during CD Projekt Red's earning call. It's being co -developed by a Polish studio called Fool's Theory, who put out a CRPG called The Thaumaturge, and are also working with CD Projekt Red on a remake of The Witcher 1.City Project Red CEO also said the size and scope of the expansion was similar to that of Blood and Wine, and that they are definitely not coming to last -gen consoles for whatever reason, and they also currently don't have any plans to make expansions for the next Witcher trilogy, because they've already signed up for three major games at this stage.More details to come at Gamescom in August.Something that was also very much expected was the next Call of Duty title.
This year, it's Infinity Ward's turn to again bring modern warfare out for a fourth time, with the big twist being that Price and Ghost are enemies now, I think.is set on the Korean Peninsula.to depict a fictional conflict where North Korea invades the South, and the campaign will see you play both Price and a new protagonist, Private Park, played by Yang Mizino, who you might have seen in shows like Beef or The Last of Us.Wow, video game TV actors doing actual video games.Crazy stuff.Anyway, they're also bringing back Modern Warfare 2's DMZ mode, no doubt because around the launch of Black Ops 7 last year, they were like, well, damn, everyone's playing Ark Raiders.
Wait a second. We don't have an extraction mode.So here it is. of October 2026 for this one on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series consoles, and Switch 2, which marks the first time COD has been on a Nintendo console since Ghosts was on the Wii U, a game and a console I m sure many would rather forget, especially Nintendo.had to hit the reset button to start development from scratch again. Its new subtitle is Beyond Dreams, and it's about the sleepiest RPG protagonist you ever saw in your life.No date for this one.
The second Dragon Quest game was a new one in its Dragon Quest Monsters spinoff series, subtitled The Withered World. The monster series is all about monster capturing and battling, and this will technically be like the 15th release in this branch, if you can believe it.No date for this one either. One final announcement worth mentioning is that Factorio, the highly influential automation game that everyone keeps telling me to play, but man, I sure as hell do not have enough hours for that.it s ending its active development 10 years following its early access release. They say they have one last major update to release, after which they ll go into support mode.
Thankfully, genre fans will have plenty of other options to choose from now if they want something fresh, since Factorio certainly kicked off something pretty big.hours.Thank you.that really needed just one more checkpoint. That all being said, the game is still very enjoyable." End quote.
something like Overcooked than Peak, you try to work with or around your friends to meet your delivery quotas in a sort of stage format.Pick it up, end quote.Steam user bingy had this to say, quote, this game is utter chaos. It probably took five years off my life from stress.Me and my friends are frequently cursing each other's bloodlines after a simple mistake. What a masterpiece, end quote.
Map Map, a game about maps, was one of our radar picks from a couple of weeks back. This is a cartography game that has you making treasure maps instead of deciphering them. This one is also in the very positive realm with just over 100 reviews counted. Here steam user rovan, who says quote, even though I generally don t play a lot of cozy games, this is a real gem.If you love the treasure hunting from Sea of Thieves, but could live without the annoying griefers and wish for a bit more complexity in the puzzles, you definitely should give Map Map a try end quote.Steam user Matt Good had this to say quote, this is a really, really nice game.

Get started freeI m doing new things and considering the environment in ways that I never thought about in a game before.I also really love the added little bonus of the secrets in most levels. They are a really good sweet spot of difficulty where they feel exciting to discover and very satisfying to figure out end quote.Hardcore Rogue.this new one, and it already seems much deeper, bigger and more ambitious than the last one, you ll probably be a little stumped at first.Getting to know his games, going from totally lost to lost in thought is a huge part of what s enjoyable about them.
Edit. Two days later, good lord, I am totally addicted to this game in the best way possible. All up, he now has 50 hours in this, which means he clocked an additional 25 hours in the two days since posting his initial review.Absolutely crazy. All right. So what's coming out this week?
Not a whole lot, to be honest with you. It's another relatively quiet release week with no big brand headliners, meaning it's time for indies to shine and also Destiny 2 to get its last big hurrah. We'll start though on Friday, June 5th, and it's the Gothic 1 remake, a Eurojank RPG favorite from the early 2000s, which has now got a very big facelift. And by the way, it was a major source of inspiration for The Witcher, according to CD Projekt Red themselves.Anyway, this one is headed to PC, PS5 and Xbox Series consoles.Jumping over to next week, post Summer Games Fest, and the first cab off the rank is a game that was one of the wackiest trailers at Summer Games Fest in 2024, Killer Bean, which launches into Early Access on Monday, June 8th.
This one is an action roguelike based on the seminal animated series by Jeff Liu, who is also developing this game solo, and he expects to be in Early Access for at least two years as he adds co -op and content.Expect a stupid amount of action with lots of bullet time and over -the -top takedowns, as well as, quote, frequent violence between Coffee Bean characters, end quote. Thanks, team.Moving on now to Wednesday, June 10th, we've got a new open world survival crafting game called Witchspire launching into Early Access.Heard a lot of good things about the early previews and demos for this one.It gives the whole genre a twist by injecting a bit of magic and astral projection in there, helping you build and harvest resources more easily.
and there s a whole creature collecting component as well, PC only for now.On June 10th is a game called Crushed in Time, which is a sequel to a very good point and click adventure game from a few years ago called There Is No Game, Wrong Dimension. That was a very meta comedy focused thing that comes highly recommended, it s overwhelmingly positive with over 25 ,000 reviews, and the less you know about it the better.Crushed in Time takes two of the characters from that first game, a version of Holmes and Watson, and puts them in a new time travelling meta mystery where they go looking for for one of their fellow game characters. The hook here is that you interact with everything by pulling and snapping the very elastic world, which naturally lends itself to comedy.PC only for this one.
And finally, moving on to Thursday, June 11th now, and ending with the biggest indie release of the week, Star Seeker, Astroneer Expeditions, which is coming out into early access on absolutely everything. This one's being published by Devolver Digital, and of course it's based on Astroneer, which I personally have never played, but it is surprisingly huge. But where Astroneer was a bit of a chill base -building and automation kind of thing, Star Seeker focuses more on co -op exploration and completing objectives with your friends or randoms. So something for when you want a bit more excitement in your friend -slop sessions.Cross -platform and cross -progression for this one too.We saved one of the indies coming out this week for this next segment.
This one caught our eye at Gamescom last year, so put this on your radar.
Here in Palopori, our heroes are only as strong as their last meal. And that's where I come in.I make the meals.I pair the flavors they love with the magic and abilities they need.Powering up our caretakers for their ventures into the wilds.
This game is called Bistro, and as you can see, it's not only a turn -based deck -building dungeon crawler, it's also a game where you essentially play a version of the mouscular chef from Monster Hunter.Bistro is a hybrid game that's part management RPG where you look after your restaurant, animals and crops, and part cooking simulator where you're graded on completing mini -games like frying and chopping. And depending on what you feed the adventurers who come to your restaurant and how well you make the meal, the better their combat deck ends up being. The combat is also represented by these neat -looking cardboard puppet shows, which to be honest was the real hook that got us looking even more deeply at this one.And of course, the better you do out in the wilds, better chance you are of returning with better ingredients to cook with.
It's an interesting mix of cozy game genres, with combat bringing a bit of bite to all of it, no pun intended. So if you do like the look of this one, we've left a link to it over on our Steam Curator page, which also has links to all of the other Put This On Your Radar stuff we've recently covered.I'll leave a link to all of that below the like button. Our feel -good story of the week is one featuring the type of person that doesn't usually feature in this segment.a gaming CEO.Recently, WWE 2K26 got an update that included a number of new wrestlers added to the roster.
The additions are always announced publicly, but there was one new challenger who they forgot to add to the patch notes.See if you can recognize who it is.That s right, it s Take Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, who either agreed to or asked for his likeness to be added to the game.To make it all the weirder, Zelnick s intro song is Frank Sinatra s My Way, and this song cannot be played in the jukebox, nor can it be assigned to another wrestler s intro. It s literally just for Zelnick s intro, and that is it, and it really is a very fitting move for a CEO to hoard IP so that others cannot enjoy it.I will say though, it is refreshing to see a CEO willingly add their likeness to a game where the entire point of the game is beating the shit out of people.
The next time Take -Two pulls some bullshit, we re going to be able to cut to a quick gameplay clip of Zelnick getting coat -hanged in his crisp blue suit. And finally, it does pay me to say it, but the announcer barks for this guy are pretty damn good.Alright ladies and gentlemen, that is another show down, and it was a big one, kicking off the Summer Games Fest as best we know how.Plenty more to come next week, and after that as well, since I ll be doing at least a few impressions videos based on the games I m playing over this weekend.A lot to look forward to, so if you re as excited as I am, then do hit that like button, because, I don t know man, we just need likes around here, that s the way this whole business works, and we also needsubscribers so be sure to hit that button as well if you haven't I'm gonna get some sleep now so I've got enough juice for what's coming you take good care of yourselves thanks for watching and a big thanks to this video sponsor Squarespace It's never too late to make a switch.
Look at me.A few years ago, I was chained to a desk doing corporate stuff. No disrespect to anyone who loves that, but it certainly wasn't making me happy.I've told this story before, but when I wanted to break into the games media business, no one would hire me, so I decided to make my own website that focused on game guides. The thing was, I had no idea how to build a website, so I had to spend a few thousand bucks paying someone to build it for me.And the website was terrible, mind you.
It wasn't the web designer's fault. It was entirely on me.My idea sucked. The point of my story is that back then you had to pay someone thousands of dollars to build a website for your business idea because that was pretty much the only way that a website could get made. Not so today, because thankfully we have Squarespace.Squarespace is the place to build almost any website you'll need.
