ARSENAL SIGN BRUNO GUIMARAES! 🚨

I had a very interesting moment today.I was on TalkSport and I was talking about Arsenal.I was talking about the power of Arsenal.I was talking about the prestige that comes with being champions.And I was talking about the fact that Arsenal are linked with signing the two best Brazilian footballers in the world at the moment.The two starlet of Brazil are both linked with Arsenal.

Now, When we were discussing this, I made a point, and I think it was a fairly tame point, but it got people talking, and that is why I want your thoughts on this.I was talking about signing Vinicius Junior or signing Bruno Guimaraes, and I basically said this.I said that I believe signing Vinicius Junior is bigger.I believe that signing Vinicius Junior is more of a statement.I believe that signing Vinicius Junior is more exciting, more enthralling, more brilliant, right?He is just entertainment.

He is football poetry.But then I also said that I'm wrong.

I said that the most important signing is actually Bruno Guimaraes.I would prefer, if it was a Chelsea thing, I would prefer Vinicius Junior, but equally, I kind of concede that I'm a little bit of an idiot and I'm easily entertained.And the more appropriate signing, the more impressive signing would actually be Bruno Guimaraes.The signing that will make more of a difference is Bruno Guimaraes.Now when I said that, Everybody thought I was nuts.I was on with areola depot.

He looked at me like I was wild.I looked at our arsenal supporting producer He looked at me like I was wild the phone lines lit up and everybody seemed to disagree with me What I would like from you is do you see where I'm coming from if you just agree?Will you please like this video?I just want to monitor it if you can kind of see where I'm coming from.Yeah, I love the Dazzle.I love the Hollywood.

I love the Razzmatazz of Vinicius Jr.And I would prefer Vinicius Jr.But if I remove that and I look at it strictly through the lens of football, then I concede that I'm wrong.And I think Bruno Guimaraes is a better signing.If you agree with me, like this video.Do you think Bruno Guimaraes is a bigger, better, more important signing?

If you do, like this video.I was amazed at quite how wrong it felt and quite how animated.got.People seemed to think that I was completely and utterly wrong.It's like they didn't appreciate quite how good a footballer Bruno Guimaraes is.They didn't appreciate quite how brilliant a player he is, quite how much of a difference he will make, the elevation of that Arsenal midfield.

When you take Norguard out of it and you put in Bruno Guimaraes, it is outstanding.

On some level, I would argue that it's the perfect signing.It is Whilst I totally concede that Declan Rice is a phenomenon, a wonderful footballer, one of the best to do it, and actually that song that Arsenal fans facetiously sing to West Ham about Declan Rice being cheap at half the price is now accurate.Declan Rice is way more than a £100m player, Declan Rice is a bargain.Arsenal did pull the pants down of West Ham United, that is a fact.But in my opinion, it's unsustainable what Declan Rice is doing.He needs some help.

The demands on Declan Rice, both for club and country, it's just unsustainable.And in order to prolong Declan Rice's career, in order to make sure that you maximise your investment in him, in order to make sure that he goes down as one of your best captains in history, which I believe is on his horizon, you need support.And that support can come in Lewis Skelly, no doubt.It can come in Zuba Mendy, no doubt.But if you look at the way that Zuba Mendy's form's dipped, towards the second half of the season.If you look upon Lewis Skelly as one for the future, I think Arsenal need reinforcements in the middle.

And when you talk about Bruno Guimaraes, what you are signing is elite.What you're signing is Premier League proven.What you are actually signing is perfect.Just listen to this stat.Since he signed for Newcastle United four years ago, they haven't won a game of football where he's been missing.If Bruno Guimaraes isn't playing, Newcastle United do not win.

That is the importance of him.

You know, when you talk about signings, there's loads of reasons to sign players, right?But one of the most important, and something you should actually build a transfer strategy around, something that Manchester United have actually used very well in recent years.Premier League proven footballers.Why sign Nbemo?Premier League proven.Why sign Kunja?

Premier League proven.Why take punts on Angel Di Maria when you can go and sign somebody who you know can do it in this league?And I think Bruno Guimaraes is the tonic, he is the answer.Think about what he is to Newcastle and then think about what he'd bring to Arsenal.If you know Arsenal fans the way that I do, I know what excites them.

I know the kind of players that they react well to.I know the kind of players that the clock end will fall in love with.You just know that Bruno Guimaraes is going to be a fan favourite, both in the clock end and in the North Bank.And Arsenal fans all over the globe are going to love him.He is everything to that Newcastle team.He is the heartbeat.

He is the leader.He is the tonic.He is the conduit between the fans and the players.If you are a Newcastle fan, the most ardent and typical Newcastle fan, who has a pint in the strawberry before going to his season ticket on the Gallagate.He loves Bruno Guimaraes.He loves him.

Bruno Guimaraes is everything to him.He is the rhythm.He is the reason.He is the focus of that entire team.He is two things at once.He is their most creative player, and yet he is also the protector of the back nine.

How can the same player be those two things?How can the same player be both the goal threat, the assist maker, in fact, and then the player that the defence rely upon to shield them.He scores goals.Like, it's very rare that you get a situation where the same player at a club is both N 'Golo Kante and Frank Lampard.But Bruno Guimara scored nine goals in the Premier League, which made him Newcastle United's highest scorer.He created five assists, which for a fairly abject Newcastle United team, is decent.

And then he is a screen in front of that back line.Like, he has a great

eye for a goal, an absolutely brilliant eye for a goal in fact.Scoring nine times in the Premier League for a distinctly average Newcastle team, bearing in mind he missed over two months with injury, is a huge return.I just think he's a class act, I really do.

Goal scorer, creative heartbeat, personality.He is the tenacity, the spirit, the the icon of that team and he's the captain and suddenly you're talking about Arsenal who are champions, signing a player of this calibre for approximately £70m.Okay, that's been rejected but it's going to be approximately that.I think £80m and he's gone.Newcastle United's financial constraints are too severe for them to turn down an offer in the region of £80m.So when you think that Tonali went for £100m, when you think about what Elliot Anderson went for, when you think about the market for central midfielders at the moment, if Arsenal end up paying £80m, that is exceptional.

and it will represent a bargain.Remember when these negotiations started, Newcastle United firstly said it wasn't for sale and then said it will be in excess of a hundred million quid and this is perfect because not only Arsenal are going to sign an excellent player, but they're going to sign an excellent, motivated, proven, hungry footballer.Because this is Bruno Guimara's last chance.This is his last real opportunity to move to a club capable of winning significant and serious silverware.This is his last chance of ending his career with a European Cup.He moves now or he doesn't move at all.

This is it.He'll be, what, 29 years old soon?This is his opportunity.This is his opportunity to play for a club who can win serious silverware.This is his opportunity to play for a club who will, in my opinion, win the Premier League next year.This is his opportunity to play for a club where he will now earn, not that he's not on major money,

not that he's not incredibly wealthy, please don't think that I would ever belittle the funds and the amount of money that footballers can earn, but this is gonna be a huge pay rise.He goes in at Arsenal on what, over 300 grand a week?He's currently earning 200 grand a week.It is just a different level, a different level altogether.And then, then when you think about what this will mean for Arsenal, You look at the challengers.You look at what's going on around them.

Like, Liverpool have still not signed the midfielder that their fans have been clambering for.Like, Dominic Sobosla is an excellent player.Alexis McAllister is a decent player.But they need reinforcements in that midfield so desperately.It's also looking, whilst Liverpool haven't signed anyone, that Manchester City are going to lose Rodri.You know, like, Florentino Perez is a very proud man and he doesn't really want to sign Rodri.

Because when he was campaigning to be president, it was the other guy's fault.running piece.The other guy, I forget his name, who Perez ran against.But Perez ran on a campaign of bringing in the likes of Diamonde.The other guy ran on a campaign of bringing in Rodri.So Florentino Perez has to kind of acknowledge that the other guy was right, and he doesn't really want to do that.

It doesn't come naturally to him.But ultimately, City, I believe, are going to lose Rodri this year.This is Rodri's last opportunity to go to Real Madrid and it is exactly what Real Madrid need.And anyone who is Iberian, I mean any footballer, but certainly Iberian footballers, they will always dream of playing for Real Madrid.

And Rodri will take this opportunity off the back of his heroics at the World Cup.And then you think about Chelsea.If you consider Chelsea to be a serious contender for the league, which some of you who watch my Premier League predictions, I've read the comments, not many of you do, but I do believe.You know, our midfield issue is majorly problematic.Majorly problematic.We've just signed Jordan Henderson and Enzo Fernandes I believe will leave and he certainly wants to leave even if he doesn't then you look at Manchester United

and they're saying that their business was done off the back of signing Tielemans and Santos.Both good players, both good signings, but not necessarily the marquee signing that you expected.So, Arsenal now, if you believe that the midfield, the engine room, the heartbeat of a team will often drag teams to victory and be symbolic, who has the best midfield wins the league?really, really reductive way to look at football.

But I think there's probably some truth in it.Manchester United won so many league titles because Roy Keane said they would.Chelsea won league titles because Frank Lampard didn't allow us not to win them.Kevin de Bruyne, Yaya Toure.It's what happens at football clubs.And Arsenal now have by far the best midfield unit in the league already.

You add Bruno Guimaraes to that, that is outrageous.They are champions.They are already reigning champions.They are already an incredibly settled squad.And it's so hard to bet against them retaining it.I desperately don't want them to win it.

And I totally acknowledge that it won't be easy.I totally acknowledge that there are always twists and turns that are totally unpredictable in the Premier League.But they've done their business early.They're putting themselves in the perfect position.And when you think about how settled the club are, when you think about what they achieved last year, they were already magnificent.They already won the league in the end at a canter.

They won the league at a canter whilst making it to a European Cup final, taking the best team in the world, Paris Saint -Germain, all the way.It looks very, very positive for Arsenal.Annoyingly positive and annoyingly worrying.

For Mikel Arteta, looking around, he's going to be looking at Enzo Maresca.He's not going to be intimidated at Man City.He's going to be looking at Xabi Alonso, whilst I think he will acknowledge Alonso did very well at Leverkusen.It's his first year at a very disruptive club.signing Danny Welbeck and Jordan Henderson, whilst he is looking around at his squad of winners, proven winners, adding to them.

Arsenal are doing exactly what they should do.When you win a league title, it comes with a power and a prestige and it is your responsibility to cement your place and that is exactly what Arsenal are doing.Whether they sign Vinicius Junior or not, the fact that they are linked with signing Vinicius Junior tells you all you need to know about the ambition of the club.And it's not going to be easy.It really is not going to be easy.It reminds me when we were good and had standards.

We went out, we won the league, we went out, bang, signed Michael Essien.We didn't need Michael Essien, but we went and we got him.We already had the best midfielder in the league, but we went and we got him and we retained a league title.Arsenal never retained a league title in their Premier League history.Is that about to change?I desperately hope I'm wrong.

But sadly, I have to fall on my sword.They are moving in a very, very serious way.Big news from Arsenal.Bruno Guimaraes, what a signing that will be.And if they follow it up with Vinicius Junior, you are looking at Arsenal cementing themselves as the monolith of the Premier League next year.Very interesting to see how this all pans out.
