Asa's Fertility Surgery | Our TTC Update

Good morning, you guys!Okay, today is a big day for me and Asa.One that we have literally been counting down the days for.And it is the day Asa's getting his fertility surgery!Woohoo!I don't know if you guys are caught up, but we originally scheduled this surgery a month ago, and Asa got super super sick and could not have the surgery.

So we ended up delaying it a month, which definitely was really sad just because We're hoping that this is the answer to our infertility, and so delaying any time really does suck.But we're finally here.It's today.And we are heading to his surgery right now.

Feeling, babe.nervous for one, but I'm really excited.This is something that I've been looking forward to for a long time because I really think this is going to be the answer.

And I honestly, I signed up for this because I really want it to be the thing.

Yeah.So he's definitely nervous.He's had like the nervous jitters this morning.Also, he hasn't had a surgery since your wisdom teeth.Yeah, I think it's been nine years.So it's been a minute since he's gone under any kind of anesthesia, which we talked to our doctor and it's supposed to be like a super chill surgery, like 30 minutes max.

They even said he shouldn't be in any kind of pain afterwards.So that's nice.

Yeah, it should be pretty, pretty good.

It's supposed to be pretty chill, but honestly, you never know.Surgeries are always a little nerve wracking.So we'll just keep y 'all updated throughout the day.I love to be prepared.It's like a way that I can like calm my brain.So I brought bunch of snacks.

Asa can't eat until after his surgery but I know he's gonna be really hungry after his surgery.So I've got a bunch of snacks and then I'm gonna have to sit in the waiting room so I also have headphones and my Kindle in here and I filled up both of our water bottles so we are all set.I feel like we're prepped for the hospital.

I'm gonna try to fight the anesthesia.see how long that can last.I'm gonna try to film it if I can.

He said he's gonna see if the doctor will film him trying to fight anesthesia.I don't know if he will or not.

I think with my wisdom teeth I didn't even open my eyes when they did the IV and the next thing I remember I just wanted to pop in real quick I wanted to let you guys know that I am editing this video so All the jokes made are jokes that I'm making myself.Please don't feel bad for me. I'm just trying to make it fun and educational and light -hearted.All right, back to the video.Okay, we made it.So, it's time.It is time for the surgery.

I'm gonna have Asa explain like what the surgery is and why he's getting it because he's the one getting it.

Yes.So, it is called a varicocele surgery.So, in my down there area, I have what's called a varicocele.It's just a bundle of nerves and The doctor thinks that it could be potentially hurting my The quality of his stuff quality of my things we would normally be unfiltered, but we don't know what's allowed on youtube So yes, and not everyone who has a varicocele necessarily has to get surgery for it Sometimes they don't really do anything at all.Mine is a grade three, which means it probably is impacting some things So we're gonna give it a shot we talked to the doctors and they just thought this was a good first step rather than doing like ibf right because If this fixes it, it'd be a lot easier.

It is necessary for him to have good quality stuff regardless for all the next steps.So this is only, this can only help.

Yes, and it might help for future trying to get babies too.So, and also before anybody asks, I do want to clarify, yes, I gave permission to film this video.I want to share because I want to help other people who might bedealing with the same thing understand what could be going on and kind of give you something to look forward to and understand what's happening.I've gotten a lot of DMs from people who have said they've had a similar issue and they've gotten surgery and it's gotten fixed or people who have figured out they have a varicocele because we're sharing it.So that's why we're doing it.

We've gotten some pretty cool DMs of people saying they didn't know this was a potential infertility thing.And since we've publicly talked about it for ASA, they've been able to discover that for themselves and get it fixed and or looking into how to get it fixed.So we just feel like it's important to say it and share, because it's obviously helping people.So that's why we're doing this.

The best part is I get to be asleep.I don't have to think about it.I'm getting a reverse vasectomy right now.They're just making it flow better.

So Asa just went back and I am just chilling.I've got all of his stuff in this bag and all of my stuff.Kindle, water bottle, phone, things like that.And I'm just chilling.Kind of biting my nails until they call me back to tell me he's waking up.They do these kinds of things all the time.

That's what I keep reminding myself.

The surgeries are just so nerve -wracking.

Like, I don't like that it's not me.I'd rather be doing it, you know?he's going to be great.So I'm just trying to distract myself until the surgery's over.

I think it's been like 30, maybe 40 minutes.So we've got a sec until he comes out and then they'll wake him up from the anesthesia.

So I have my ladybug nails because ladybugs are supposed to be good luck for fertility.So I felt like this was my way of having a good luck charm with me.This is the bag.

The doctor gave him to put all of his clothes and stuff in so whenever he comes back out I'll be the one to give him his clothes and stuff back because right now he was just in a gown.

The doctor just came out and said that he did great.and that he is in recovery and I'm about to go back and see him.I feel so relieved.He said that the varicocele is gone.He did say it was quite a problem.I'll say that much.

So I'm relieved to hear that the problem is gone and I'm just excited to go back and see Asa.

Who I found.Hi.A little bit groggy.I just woke up, kind of.

How you doing?

Fine.

He's eating because he hasn't had food in a minute.

Yeah, since midnight last night, so I'm hungry.

Did the surgery go well, you think?

Yeah, I think they put an extra call on him.

He's fine.They said the surgery went great, and he's now just waking up.I came back here, and the first thing he said was, can I please have my glasses?Because I had his glasses.

I couldn't see anything.

I did tell him that I had the three inch package.

He keeps making jokes like that.He's got some saltines.He's waking up and we'll be in here for like 30 minutes.They said they'll wheel him out to the car when we're ready to go.We just have to wait for him to wake up a little more.

Alright, I'm out of surgery.Wifey is taking me home.I was pretty sleepy when I woke up.Honestly, it's kind of just like a nice nap.And to settle the debate, for those of you that believe in me, no, I don't think I lasted more than like four seconds.

I told you it would be four seconds.

Yeah he was like okay you might feel a little something in your IV.I was like okay that's fine and then I literally don't remember anything else.

I woke up it was uh pretty fast about little bit less than an hour and then now we're on the way home so I'm not in any pain right now but we are gonna go pick up a prescription just in case it does kind of flare up later we're just hoping this is it and this is all that we have to do and then in the next couple months we'll be pregnant that's the hope yay okay guys we officially made it home from the hospital but we made a little pit stop on the way home ice cream ice cream ice cream I grew up getting a treat after every surgery so it's the best way it's the best way to heal soul yeah it is we both got some so cheers we just got home and I'm just getting Asa settled so he's got his little Actually huge mega bed upstairs.

Yeah.So he's gonna chill here for probably the next like two days.I mean you'll be moving from this place but...Yeah.For the most part resting.

Also, they tried to shave me down there and it's kind of looking like...You know what I mean?

Okay.When Asa got out of the surgery, the doctor actually came up to me and said he didn'tgood job, but the varicocele was significant.I can't remember the exact word he used.He said stubborn, I think.So he definitely indicated that it was a bit problematic and it was time for it to go.

So I'm definitely really glad that we made this choice to get it removed.Not only to improve the quality of Asa's downstairs situation, but also just because it was obviously problematic in the first place and uncomfortable and shouldn't have been there.We'll see what happens afterwards.

These guys are anxious to see Asa.I put them outside so they wouldn't jump on him.Hello?

Hello?Hello?Did you miss us?I didn't want them jumping all over his lap area so that's why we put him upstairs because we have this little dog gate so they can't necessarily go up there and just like jump on him whenever.Now I'm going to hop in the shower and then go join Asa upstairs and the next agenda is to literally just binge watch the crap out of movies and tv shows for the next 24 hours.All clean from the hospital.

Definitely feeling much better.Like a weight has been lifted off both of our shoulders just getting that surgery done.It's been something we've been like having kind of like loom over our heads basically, especially because it got delayed for a month.So to just feel like it's finally over and everything went smoothly is such a relief.

I feel like I finally can breathe again.

You guys, we have literally the sweetest friends ever.They just dropped off dinner.It is steak, asparagus, potatoes, and a salad.This is all for Asa so that we don't have to worry about dinner tonight after his surgery.I cannot express how much this kind of community, people who show up for us, makes a big difference.This is about to be delicious.

Taking a break from sitting to stretch my legs for a second and just a few minutes ago, some of our friends came by and dropped me off this sign.It says Asa Knows Ball.And they all wrote nice notes for me.That's awesome.That's hilarious.Thank you to all my friends who have been super supportive and bringing me snacks and funny signs.

Wanted to give a quick update because we're about eight hours after the operation.And as of right now, I'm actually feeling pretty good.I haven't had to take any pain meds or anything, which means it might be hitting me tomorrow.But as of right now, I'm doing okay.So I've just been chilling, watching TV, hanging out with Bailey.And yeah, she's been the best supporter ever.

You're the best.It feels good to actually stretch my legs because I've been laying down for like hours.

Part of the instruction says not to sit.

But also don't stand for too long.So it's a combo of up and down and move and don't move.And yeah, I don't know.But honestly, if anyone is going anywhere,have to do this surgery, so far it really has not been bad.Surgery was super fast.

It's gonna be okay.

This has been Asa's uniform for the day.The robe that I got him for Christmas.

I'm fully just breathing it out right now.

I'm not really sure if it's supposed to be like, like breathable or what.So we just, we decided the robe was the best bet.

It is kind of hot.So I'm under the blanket.

Yeah, we're a little nervous that tomorrow he's gonna be in a lot of pain.We'll see.Yeah, we'll see, but as of right now, no big deal.Mm -hmm.

Surgery day is officially over.over yeah we're just making our way to not being in the infertility yeah right anymore we want to get pregnant we want to have a baby and we're hoping that this is the answer please but of course we will keep y 'all updated on if it is because we're really hoping so Crossing our fingers.They do say that it does take about three months -ish for everything to clear out and rejuvenate.

So it's not going to be immediate, sadly.

It's not going to be an immediate result, but we're really just hoping for the best.
