Australia Had An Autobahn

Just 10 years ago, Australia had its own autobahn.Deep in Australia, in the Northern Territory, there was the Stuart Highway.Literal hundreds of miles of open road with absolutely no speed limit.And for decades, this was the ultimate playground.There were no buildings, no cities, and virtually no traffic as well.

Just roads.But in 2007, they capped it at 80 miles an hour as the fatality rate was nearly triple the national average.Mostly due to people hitting wildlife and then... dying.And then in 2014 they brought it back which was very short -lived as in 2016 due to pressure from medical experts it was limited again for pretty much the same reason.
