One Nation leader Pauline Hanson is back in Australia after a controversial trip to Europe that included meeting far -right political figure Tommy Robinson and holidaying with mining billionaire Gina Reinhart.One Nation MP Barnaby Joyce sought to defend the meeting and her comments on mass deportations on last night's 7 .30 program in a fiery interview which was interrupted by his dog in an unexpected moment live on air.Let's get more on this.Our political reporter Claudia Long joins us now from Parliament House.Claudia, firstly, what did Barnaby Joyce have to say about those comments on mass deportations?

So he said that he actually had a suggestion that doctors and nurses should potentially be asked to essentially report people who are overstaying their visas.Now he'd said that a little bit earlier in the day, before his 7 .30 interview, following up, like you mentioned, from those comments that were made by Senator Hanson over the weekend.If you missed them, she spoke to Channel 7's Spotlight program and she was presented with a plan from the far -right British group Restore Britain and what that outlined was their intentions, their plans for a mass deportation of immigrants.Now initially her response to that was that she loved the idea but when she was pressed on it a little bit further she said that in Australia she'd only like to see that apply to people who were here illegally.Now of course at the moment already if you are found to have overstayed your visa normally you are expected to to leave the country.That's not unusual.

But Barnaby Joyce, when pressed about his idea for doctor and nurses to potentially have to report those who are overstaying their visas, didn't have a whole lot of detail about how something like that would work in his view, but here's what he had to say.

What I've basically said, illegal immigrants, unless you want to keep illegal immigrants here, then there's no point in calling them illegal.If they're illegal, they're not supposed to be in Australia.That's why they're termed illegal immigrants.And people who are illegal immigrants should be sent home.

Claudia Barnaby -Joyce, clearly under a lot of pressure there.Tell us about that interruption.that took place live on air.

Well, there was a dog in the background making its presence known.You know, they never say they say never work with children, never work with dogs.And that seems very true in this instance.Here's what happened.

You're defending your leader, but are you really comfortable with where she is taking you?

I think, sorry, it's a dog.

And that was Barnaby Joyce and his dog needing to sit down.Now, look, if you weren't already feeling alert, I'm sure you are now.We're going to keep asking questions to get to the bottom of this idea and understand a little bit more of how the One Nation's members and MPs, rather, think it would work.
