BREAKING! Jose MOURINHO NEW REAL MADRID MANAGER!

Hello, everybody.Welcome to That's Football.I'm Mark Goldbridge, and this is why we love football for days like this.Jose Mourinho is back.It's Here We Go at Real Madrid.Isn't this just what it's all about?

You know what?We're only here for a good time, not a long time.We're here once.And this is why football sometimes can just deliver these moments.I'm not a Real Madrid fan.I'm not a Jose Mourinho fan in the sense that some people just follow him everywhere.

When we had him at Man United, we had an influx of Man United fans just because they're Jose Mourinho fans.It's incredible the following he has.But I do like Mourinho.I think he is box office.I think he is a goat of the game and a little bit like when Ronaldo and Messi retire.I think when it comes to managers, Mourinho supersedes everybody, whether it's Pep.

Klopp, whoever, maybe not on trophies won, but just on pure aura.So the fact that Real Madrid have done this, the biggest club in the world, the team that's won the Champions League more than anybody and is the biggest club in the world, for them to bring Mourinho in, I just think it's, you know, it's amazing.And I don't watch La Liga.I sort of lost interest in La Liga post -Covid and I will be interested in this because Mourinho is box office.His interviews, how he's going to do.We've seen the problems at Real Madrid as well.

I'm going to talk about Arnaud Slot in a moment as well because the odds on him being sacked have dropped and their next Liverpool manager odds are quite interesting.But let's stick with Mourinho for a moment.What are your thoughts on this?I mean, Real Madrid just have this issue at the moment where I think that Wembley final against Dortmund where they won, I thought they were going to dominate world football for years.They had Bellingham as a false nine, Rodrigo, Vinicius Junior either side of them.And I thought, you know what, they're going to dominate for years.

They bring Mbappe in and a little bit like PSG, it just doesn't work.Even though Mbappe is one of the best players in the world, is he a team player?Real Madrid,they're just not at the level they should be.

So bringing someone like Mourinho in, I think this is really good because I think Mbappe will feel that he can speak to people how he wants to speak to people because he's Mbappe.But he won't get away with it with Jose.So he even has to get on board or get out.

And that's exactly what Real Madrid need.Real Madrid's bigger than any player.Any, you know, Man United, Bayern Munich, Liverpool, Real Madrid, Barcelona.They should be bigger than any player.And I think Real Madrid have sort of fallen into this category where they brought Alonso in post Ancelotti who could handle it because he had the aura.Alonso, I think, is a good coach, but you could tell the players were like, who are you?

You're inexperienced.We're Real Madrid.They won't be able to do it with Mourinho.So very excited by it.I mean, look, people say Mourinho's fell off.When you look at Mourinho and some of the jobs he's taken, he wins the league with Chelsea, they sack him three months later because of a bad start.

I thought that was harsh.He then comes to Man United where he takes us to second place, wins a couple of trophies and gets sacked by Christmas because of player power.And then it's sort of been a tour of crappy jobs really, spurs.They sack him just before a cup final.Goes to Turkey, which is, you know, difficult.And then at Benfica, they're the only team, one of the only teams in Europe that are unbeaten all season domestically.

They just drew too many games.

I think it's interesting.I'm really interested in how Mourinho is going to do at Real Madrid.I'm very excited by it.And I think these are the things that if I was the Premier League, I would look at this and go, you know, football isn't just about we're the biggest and we're the best.It's about the actions you take to be the best.At 63 years of age, Mourinho's still got years left.

He could manage for another 10 years.So I think it's I think it's another indicator, like when we watched PSG against Bayern a few weeks ago, there are things that happen in football where you go, this is why I love this game.And this is a really clever move by Real Madrid.It might not work.I mean, look, Mourinho is, you know, probably not the manager he was 20 years ago, but he is still a goat of the game when it comes to management.And I think this is a massively exciting appointment.

So, look, give us your thoughts on that.Secondly, let's talk about Arnaud Slot.Obviously, you had the Mo Salah statements over the weekend, which if you're not aware of it, he basically said Liverpool isn't just about winning games, it's about doing it the right way and the football's not very good.It's a direct hit at Arnaud Slot and the interesting thing was that a lot of Liverpool players liked the social media post of Salah, so undermined the manager and the football club he has and also players have backed him on it.If Liverpool try and sweep this under the carpet, this is an entertainment business.But it's an entertainment business, football, that is dependent on results.

You have to deliver results.Liverpool fans are going to look at this and go, look, Mo Salah is one of the greatest players we've ever had.And he's basically saying that the dressing room don't like the football.Are you going to just ignore that and back this manager who has lost 20 games this season?The odds that have him have him being sacked have come back down to two to one and it's very interesting who the favorites are to get the job Luis Enrique, Iriola, Sebastian Hoeneß, Julian Nagelsmann I mean all these managers are really good Like I would have been very happy with any of them at Manchester United over Michael Carrick Maybe Hoeneß not as much because I think it's a bit more of a punt to take a Stuttgart manager But Nagelsmann, Iriola, Luis Enrique.I mean, I think Liverpool fans again.

I don't know how Liverpool fans feel being not a Liverpool fan myself, I want you to keep Slott.But, you know, it's almost like if you don't want Slott, you'd be begging, like, please get rid of him because some of those managers, especially Nagelsmann and, I mean, Enrique Sarr.a little bit optimistic, but Nagelsmann, Iriola, I think they're exciting coaches who, could come in and do really good things at Liverpool and build something really good.As I said to you last week, I feel like Iriola is a little bit unlucky because I think he's better than Karrick and I think he might be better than Alonso, but you can understand why United have gone with Karrick because of the results.You can understand why Chelsea have gone with Alonso because of the experience.But I think Iriola is a good punt as well.

But look, honestly, I've said it before, I'll say it again, slots, has to go.It's only because I'm a United fan that I want him to stay.They're much the same as I think Liverpool fans would like to have given Oli a lifetime contract because, you know, we were never going to be a threat.So, but I don't know.Look, the interesting thing with Liverpool is and from what I know from, you know, contacts, et cetera, and he said, to be fair, it's in the press anyway.When David Ornstein says that the plan is to keep slot numerous times over the last few weeks, the plan is to keep slots.

The problem you've got is that fans dictate what happens and FSG at Liverpool can say they want to keep slot and there might be very good reasons for that financially they might you know they might need to keep slot whatever but you can't lose 20 games in a season you can't play shit football and you can't just keep it fans will always we we downbeat ourselves as fans because we feel powerless because we don't own the clubs and most of the time that is true But if you stop turning up, and you stop buying tickets, and you stop buying merchandise, and you get angry, then clubs will make a decision.And the easiest thing to do as a board is back a manager, back a manager, back a manager.Right, we're getting some shit.Sack a manager.Yeah, we're the hero again.Look at Chelsea.

Chelsea's owners are the worst thing since sliced bread, right?They lose the FA Cup final.Rory Jennings is losing his shit.He's quaffing on his wine.He's going absolutely mad.Fuck Chelsea.

Fuck this.Fuck that.Alonso's a hit.he's there opening the champagne, going up to Chelsea.

So it just shows you how, and that's how everybody is, and it just shows you how in football, as a board, you can absolutely destroy your club, but make one decision, you can do like two years of absolutely terrible things, and then one decision, you're heroes again.I mean, look at Ineos at Man United, they haven't done particularly well over the last two years.If it went bad with Carrick, they should get the blame.But I guarantee you, if they sacked Carrick at Christmas and brought Luis Enrique in, they'd be heroes.So this is the thing with Liverpool.That board needs to be very careful about stubbornly backing slot because they will get the blame for it.

But they can change that by changing their opinion.And also, I think in football, results have to dictate opinions.If they want to keep Arnaud Slot, that's absolutely fine a month ago.

But a month later, your opinion has to be Changeable, 100%.And I think they have to change their minds, but we'll have to wait and see.But look, what a way to start the week.We've got loads of transfer videos and everything for you.
