Crook, good morning to you.

Eddie, how we understand is to leave his position as Newcastle manager after five years in charge at St James' Park.It looks like this is as much Eddie's decision as it is the club's.I know there's been frustrations in the transfer market with various potential deals falling through.Obviously, Anthony Gordon Sandro Tonali, potentially Bruno Guimaraes leaving the club and it looks like Ali Hao has decided now is the right time for him to take a break.So Ali Hao to leave Newcastle, we understand, at Talksport after five years in the job.Coming in to replace him potentially is the German Matthias Jassel, currently coaching over in the Saudi Pro League with so this could develop very quickly.

Thanks for that, Cricky.Let's stay there, we've got questions for you.I mean, this is absolutely huge for so many reasons.One is the fact that the start of the Permalegis is only, what, three weeks away.Where does this leave Newcastle now?

Well, as I say, they're moving quickly.I just got a message from my colleague Ben Jacobs that Yassel will be the new manager.That deal is already agreed.So I guess a smooth transition in that regard, but it's not ideal.Is it just a few weeks before they play Liverpool?I'll be there at St James' Park on that first Sunday of the season.

And as I say, they need to get players through the door.I've mentioned that those that have departed the strategy this summer for Newcastle is that they're replacing those who leave with young, up and coming players from Europe.It's a gamble, I think, when you go down that road.Not only are they losing senior players,they're now losing the man who delivered their first domestic silverware in seven decades, twice led them to the Champions League.I know he got a bit sick from Newcastle fans.

harshly in my view at the end of last season.I think this might be a case of you only realise how good he was once he's gone anyhow.

This is a major blow for Newcastle fans, of course, because when he took over, when the Saudis bought the club and invested, there was so much hope, so much expectation.What does this tell you about where the club is now?Because you cited one of the main reasons, and I agree with you, that he's probably left his frustrations in that transfer market.What does that tell the fans about where Newcastle United as a club are currently?

Well, I think you only have to look at what they've done over the past couple of seasons.Eddie Howe would have liked to have kept Alexander Isak last summer.Ultimately, it was the owner's decision to cash in, in what was a British record fee.But that saga, for me, dragged on for too long.It hampered Newcastle in the market.It meant they missed out on other targets.

I'm not sure that Nick Voltomato, in particular, was anywhere near the top of their shopping list at the start of the summer.So how ambitious are the owners now?I think that's the question you have to ask.We've had the Chief Executive, David Hopkinson, on TalkSport, suggesting they could be title contenders in five years.I'm not sure that is realistic.

Crookey, how can we turn round and say that Eddie Howe's left his role and already there's a manager lined up and say it was a mutual agreement?You know what I mean?The two don't go hand in hand really, that you've got a manager that you're suggesting is already lined up and going to come through the door very shortly and the Eddie Howe news has just broke today.

Yeah, I don't know the timescale yet, Stuart, because it's quite a, obviously, fresh -breaking story in terms of when Eddie informed the club or when that decision to mutually part ways was made.But obviously, they've had to move quickly because they're right in the midst of pre -season, right in the midst of planning for the new Premier League season.So, I wouldn't necessarily attack the hierarchy for that.I think all good football clubs have a succession plan in place.Take Brighton, for example.They'll

know now who their next manager will be if Fabian Herntzer left the club and I think that's probably the right way to operate.

Yeah and Eddie how with the fans up in Newcastle when he first went there as an ex -player at Newcastle I was really delighted so I respect him greatly as a manager and I thought what a brilliant fit this is then the silverware come and you thought incredible the club are growing and growing then new ownership coming and ever since the new ownership's coming it's it's faulted badly in my eyes you know Yeah, I mean, listen, there's been some success.

I think if you look at when he came in, they were looking over their shoulders towards the relegation places.I think Kieran Trippier was the first signing of the Eddie Howe era and that really set the benchmark for what was to come.He piloted them away from any relegation danger, led them into the Champions League.I think I'm right in saying his first full season in charge.lost a league cup final then won that league cup final against Liverpool which was a brilliant day for everybody associated with Newcastle and then obviously got them back in the Champions League last season so I think he's more than delivered Eddie Howe and I think his stock should be high despite the fact last season wasn't the best I think if the FA are considering replacing Thomas, too, because I think Andy and I both felt after that Argentina game, that should be the direction of travel.Eddie Howe should be next in line to be England manager, in my opinion.

But you're right, Stuart, in terms of the players they've sold, they've not really been properly replaced, have they?And that's why last season was such an issue, and that's why I think this season a lot of Newcastle fans are quite pessimistic.

Last question from me, Cookie.Usually when something like this happens, how long before the club and also the man in question, in this case Eddie Howe, comes out with a statement?

Well, I would expect something imminent.I mean, I've reached out to both sources close to Eddie and to Newcastle.So far, it's a wall of silence, but that's to be expected.But I'd imagine we'll hear from the club at some point, and I hope they give Eddie Howe the send -off that he deserves.
