Canada Just Sent Trump Into a Full-Blown MELTDOWN

Hello, everybody, David Shuster here.The leader of Canada's most populated province is now calling Donald Trump garbage.Doug Ford, the Premier of Ontario, lashed out after Trump said Canada should pay for the wildfire smoke drifting across the United States.Ford noted that some of the wildfires started in the United States.

You gotta remind President Trump that there's 3 .9 million acres burning in the United States right now.And if we had resources, we would send them down to our closest friends and allies.So you know something, rather than criticize and threaten Canada, your closest friends, maybe one day you're gonna need our help like you did last year and we deployed the people.I get frustrated just listening to these, that bunch of rubbish.Bunch of rubbish.

Was Ford referring to Donald Trump's comments or to Trump himself?Well, it probably doesn't matter.Canadians are infuriated with Trump, not just over his wildfire remarks, but also over new tariff threats.We will get to the tariffs in a moment.First, on the way back to Washington from New York, Trump addressed the bad air quality hanging across much of the United States and said he told Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, while watching the World Cup, that it was Canada's fault.

I told him, I mean, you gotta stop these fires from coming in and poisoning our air.Our air has been poisoned.I have a good relationship with Mark Carney, but, you know, we got to stop the fires up there.If we can help them, we'll help them.But maybe they should pay us some damages or something, or we should do some tariffs.But it was terrible, I mean, you had businesses closing.

Yes, Donald Trump is concerned about US businesses, which is remarkable because just hours after Trump's complaints about the Canadian wildfires, Trump slapped new tariffs on Canada that will raise the cost for countless US businesses and American consumers.Trump has imposed a 50 % tariff on a wide range of Canadian produced goods, including Canadian wine, industrial products that help run US factories, andcement that is used in US construction.The Trump administration says the tariffs are retaliation for what Trump has called Canada's unfair treatment of US cars, dairy, and alcohol.The new US tariffs against Canada are set to take effect in 30 days.Economists point out that tariffs are like a tax, because the extra cost of importing a tariff good is almost always passed along to the consumer.

And that higher cost often cuts down on demand, hurting the business in the United States trying to sell the good.Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney says Canada is ready to intensify trade talks with the United States.And most trade experts believe Trump's tariff threat is just that, a threat.to give the United States more leverage in upcoming trade negotiations.Still, the tariff announcement marks a major escalation in tensions with Canada.And while Canadian Prime Minister Carney is being restrained, other Canadian leaders are speaking out.

S.alcohol industry about half a billion dollars wine and spirit sales not being sold in Canada.Obviously, the President is not happy about that.

Political and trade analysts in the United States and Canada say that even if the Trump tariffs are a negotiatingfor upcoming trade talks, the action is still dramatic and underscores that US Canadian relations have hit another low.Several US lawmakers have expressed their anger and frustration at the Trump White House.Democratic Senator Ed Markey of Massachusetts just sent a scathing letter to Trump blasting the new tariff threat.Other US lawmakers are calling the Trump approach infantile and absurd.Some Democrats are even suggesting that this is all part of a Trump effort to move media attention away from the war in Iran.

Canada, of course, is not gonna respond to a trade war by launching attack drones at the United States or hitting cargo ships in the Great Lakes.Still, as the details emerge on the Trump tariffs, the anger across Canada is building.And that's because Trump is bypassing existing US -Canadian agreements.Here's Canadian TV political analyst Scott Reid.
