Canadians Are NOT Backing Down

We've all talked about how hard it is to make Canadians hold a grudge, but you see it in the comments every time I do a story like this.

These people have dug in and their national version of a meltdown would normally be a strongly worded letter.But right now they are holding strong because right now Donald Trump has 74 % of Canadians swearing off American whiskey forever.That is coming from a new Nanos poll that came out this week.And even when you looked at projections, and even when you looked at what the number was a year ago, at the height of Donald Trump's dangerous rhetoric, the number has come out higher.

And remember, a year ago, Donald Trump slapped tariffs on Canada, started calling it their 51st state, like a guy who keeps using a co -worker's wrong name after four corrections.They know what they're doing.Canada's response was those two words, Gordie Howe, elbows up.

And turns out, they meant it.A boycott running out of steam doesn't do that.they have dug in for the long haul.Canadians have had a year to think this over and they are more committed than ever.Jack Daniels has lost 62 % of their Canadian sales.Kentucky and Tennessee distillers have watched their shipments going up north get cut in half.

Entire provinces pulled our liquor, American liquor, off their shelf and never put it back.

And no politician up there dares suggest restocking it because that That's the third rail now in Canada.And frankly, some of the best rye in the world comes out of Alberta.And I want you to think about how hard it is to make an entire country quit our whiskey.Remember, our country tried to do it once, wrote it into the Constitution, it lasted 13 years, and invented mobs.Organized crime.Hell, maybe it was an inspiration to our current regime.

But right now, Canada is doing it voluntarily, out of spite.And by every measure, they're doing way better and enjoying themselves.And like I've mentioned before, it's not just the boos.Cross -border trips still running about 20 % below where they were before any of this started.They've booed our anthem in the arenas.There was a literal on -ice brawl between our countries at tournaments.

Canada has fought us in hockey.And look, we fight all the time in hockey, but this time it was personal.Because hockey, to Canadians, it's their church.This is like somebody picking a fistfight with America at a monster truck rally.When it happens there, you know it's personal.And really, if that's our culture, God, I will choose Canadian culture all day.

And look, this is not a few people just skipping the bourbon.This is an entire country that has completely rewired how they shop and how they treat our country, and they have zero intention of going back.And I have to ask, I've usually asked these questions about to the Canadians, but I want to ask our Americans here.What does it say about the actual cost of a trade war when that country, Canada, is still holding us accountable a full year later?And they've decided they're fine with that.They are like That ex -girlfriend who keeps getting hotter and rubbing it in your face.

And they all remember exactly who started this.But remember, there's something here that should worry all of us.

The tariffs that started this?Most of them are gone.The Supreme Court struck down the Emergency Tariff Authority back in February.The administration has been carving out exemptions for months.And sure, they're doing the stupid hockey stick stuff and all that.But this boycott doesn't care when it moves.

The gap actually grew wider after the tariffs came off.Because sure, a court can undo the tariff ruling, but you can't undo the part where you told 41 million people that their country should be our 51st state.There is no exemption carve -out for that.Meanwhile, the argument out of Washington was always that Canada would fold first because they need us more than we need them.Well, look at the numbers.A year in, they're buying less of our stuff, Visiting our country less and they're telling the pollsters.
