CHIEFS CALL OUT MAGA TREASON IN ALBERTA !!!

Hey there Midas Canada viewers, Resisters from all over, Charlie Angus here.We're going back to Alberta, where the treason queen, Daniel Smith, is now picking fights with the Indigenous leadership, the leadership of Treaty 6, 7, and 8, who are calling her out for treason.It is Indigenous leaders in this country who are standing up for Canada this time and we have to have their backs.And of course Daniel Smith is also undermining the thousands of ranchers, farmers, rural people and city folks who are concerned about the damage that she wants to do to the Rocky Mountains by strip mining it for coal.This woman continues to attack basic democratic principles while pushing the agenda of the far right.But people in Alberta continue to fight back in a spectacular way.

So let's go to Calgary.Let's meet up with Jenny Eremy and she's going to tell us about the latest in the fight for democracy in Canada and the fight to push back the MAGA agenda.May their might is mighty.Viewers from all over, Charlie Angus here.Of course, we're back in Alberta.Alberta, the forward trench, the front line in the fight for democracy in Canada.

And it continues to be an absolutely wild ride.But what's also happening is the people who are stepping up, who are really clearly defining what it means to be Canadian right now, the First Nation chiefs, the people who come out door to door every day, fighting against the MAGA agenda of Daniel Smith and how we're watching the toxic politics of fake populism just run on lie after lie after lie.and I don't know looks like it might be starting to run on empty, but we're still in a very dangerous moment because of the upcoming referendum that should never have been allowed.And Daniel Smith continues to play the Donbass playbook.So to make sense of it all, we got to go to Calgary, where Jenny Yereme, who's our voice on the ground, who knows all things resistance, Alberta has been on top of everything lately.So we got wow, we got so much to talk about, right, Jenny?

So much.Yeah, I can't even believe we just spoke like two weeks ago.And yet here we are.So much has happened since.Yeah, let's get into it.

Well, I think the last time we talked we were talking about we were talking about the fight for the Rocky Mountains, right?And Corb Lund, the great Canadian country and Western singer who led the petition.Corb doesn't like doing politics, but fought so hard to get people to sign up to stop the strip mining of coal in the Rocky Mountains and came through with such a big turnout.And now Daniel Smith is basically saying she's not going to let that referendum go through.What's what's happening with that?

Yeah, the pen wasn't even dry yet.You know, we haven't even officially got a count on the on the signatures that we think we got over 200 ,000.And and our premier comes out and says, no, not going on the list.There are two times at least I can think of publicly where she stated that it would be that it would be on the on the referendum have were we successful in gaining the signatures?We did our part, and as per usual, she's pulled that carrot away from us again.So it's pretty remarkable to see.

Kathleen Ganley, who is one of the NDP MLAs, said it so well.We have a petition with a confirmed signature count that is sufficient, and we have a petition that was unconstitutional, not confirmed, will never be approved,And that separatist question is on a referendum that we didn't ask for.Meanwhile, something that was accomplished legitimately is being tossed aside.And I just want to refer back to what Craig Snodgrass said when we had a conversation with him.

So he's the mayor of High River.

Correct.Yeah.Dennis Smith's hometown.He said, we will be on that mountain blocking this if it happens.This is a cannot proceed type issue.It is a slam dunk question.

It should be very obviously given to Albertans to put this to bed.We've asked for it to be put to bed since 2020.it's enough already.So yeah, it's just, it's just so clear.And like you said, the amount of people that are starting to recognize the dishonesty that we're seeing play out in an accelerated manner these days, it's increasing.And every one of those moves gets us angrier and angrier at this government.

Well, you know, I remember you did the great video for Midas Canada with Cor Blund.And he said, he'd met with the Premier and he said, Their message to her was, just don't screw us over.And she has.I'm thinking of the constituency of people who've come out.I mean, this started, Corb says, with the ranchers.These are people who should be the loyal people for the United Conservative Party in Alberta, that she's walking over the rights of ranchers, farmers, and of course First Nations and everybody else.

But do you think this is going to have, that this is going to impact her?Because it's such an openly cynical move.

Yes, I think it's very clearly making it impossible for people who would want to vote Conservative to proceed that way.She's making a very clear line in the sand.that she has a very small group of people that she works for.fossil fuels, she is an oil and gas lobbyist, and that is her focus, her main focus, her only focus, and she will do whatever she can to proceed in that way.And there are very few people that benefit from that when we're talking about our freshwater, when we're talking about our source of drinking water in Southern Alberta, across all the way up to Edmonton.You know, this is what's at stake here.

It's the water from Edmonton, south into Montana, well, sorry, to the southern border of Alberta into Saskatchewan and into Manitoba.That's what's at stake when she's talking about this project.So, and it's just going to take us back to the table with these municipal leaders that live in this basin and make them have to tell her themselves, because it's something that cannot proceed, as I said, Craig pointed out to us as well.

Yeah, you know, it's amazing that She tells Albertans they don't have a right or they can't talk about their views on strip mining for coal, the Rocky Mountains, the most symbolic symbol of Canada that there is, yet she's going to let them have their say on whether the emergency wards should deny medical coverage or medical services to a a Somali immigrant child who's facing a life and death situation, something that nobody should be voting on anyways, and is not even under the jurisdiction of the province, but she's playing these sort of really toxic race -baiting games while denying Albertans something so fundamental to the identity of the people, which is the water that comes from the mountains.It's just awful, disgraceful politics.But I want to jump from that because she's bumming me out.I want to talk about what we're seeing in the reallything right now.The fight for Canada has really become the fight being led by the Indigenous Nations.

There was the Blackfoot Confederacy rally.I'd like to hear about what's happening with the Blackfoot Confederacy, but also the fact that the Treaty Chiefs 6, 7, and 8 are calling Daniel Smith out for treason.I mean, this is a really unprecedented moment for the country.So let's get into the Indigenous leadership that we're seeing.

Yeah, I just want to lead with saying, you can feel like, as you said, I attended this rally on Sunday last week, and you can feel that we are in a moment here in Alberta, which is writing history.We are, it's palpable, the feeling of the people who are stepping up in leadership, and those who are not.And the treaty chiefs, as you know, has been explained to me, have helped lead the UN in some cases, in writing the Indigenous rights of First Nations peoples.And so just listening to them speak.So we had so many different chiefs offer just These simple statements, but they're just so clear.So, 1st of all, this is the 1st time this was coming from chief Troy saying this is the 1st time that treaty chiefs across treaties have come together on something like this.

So this is a leveling up of leadership.If you will, putting aside differences across territories and coming together.This is something that.When I left the industry, feeling this is what is needed from the corporate leaders in our industry, is this coming together as an industry to do the right thing collectively.That has not happened.And yet this is when I was witnessing this on Sunday, I thought, wow, this is where it's coming from.

This is the leadership that is absent.otherwise.They helped us remind us that, yes, treaties have been under attack since they've been written.But standing up for them means standing up for ourselves.We are the land, they said.These treaties will last as long as the sun shines, the grass grows and the river flows.

They will never die.And so listening to them and understanding We are the land.When every decision we allow this Premier and her corrupt government to make in raping our land, we have to look at this as ourselves.This is something that we cannot let break.We cannot let the treaties break.And even for those who believe that Alberta is being mistreated, we cannot proceed without treaties.

We need to have agreements.As Chief Starlight explained, treaties are written for commerce and for peace.If that's what we want, then we need to be prepared to discuss those things and what they look like.And they cannot look like doubling oil and gas production.That is not, that's the only thing that Smith has ever put forward for her agenda, is that agenda.That's it.

Not healthcare, not education, not a functioning society.In fact, it's increasing racist rhetoric amongst us.As you said, these questions are not even something that we asked for.Again, this was from the Alberta Next panel that they created.They've been trying to divide us through these crazy notions that, like you said, a Somali child is somehow hurting us, rather than these big decisions that are being made by this premier.I wanna also highlight, they spoke about the risks that we're facing, again, reminding us that they're putting their necks out

for Albertans.This is Donald Trump and the United States on our doorstep, and they are the ones who are standing in the way and reminding us of the risks they're taking.And I just have to finish with the response that I received from posting these online just really shows the amount of racism that this premier and her party are promoting.because the comments, I'll be specific, there was, oh, they should be transparent about what these chiefs are spending.

Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

I attended the, like I said, this assembly of treaty chiefs.And in it, they're asking the federal government to be transparent about where their money is being spent.That's where the transparency has dropped, not from their side.And also, if they were given the right amount of money, then there wouldn't be a reason for them to be having to pick and choose between people.And this is the longstanding issue that they're addressing in these meetings.They were talking about water basin transfers, trying to stop us from, again, breaking the treaty by taking too much water out of a system, again, for the sake of the fossil fuel industry, that is doing nothing but harm at this point.

Just incredible stuff.And I do want to finish with this.Wilton Littlechild was there.And they were talking about the Um, you know, again, this was, as I'm sitting in this room, I'm thinking, these are the decisions that are going to decide our future from now and to the end of this province, whatever that looks like.And they were talking about anti -separatism.And again, I talk about the misinformation and the backlash on social media.

Oh, everybody, there are First Nations that want separatism.No, that question was asked and answered by the First Nations.Is anybody for separation?And nobody put their hand up, not one person.And they discussed a vote in August they're planning on having.And Wilton Littlechild added that we need to have some sense of we need to have enforcement in the treaties, or sorry, in this ask of First Nations to agree to stop separatism from coast to coast to coast.

It was, we need to enforce this so that it doesn't happen again.And I said, who is this man?Because when he spoke and the way he added this in, I was just like, whoa, this is what we need from everything, from the AER, from the from our government, we need enforcement.This is what's missing.They brag about Alberta having the best laws.They're not being enforced.

And, you know, she said, this is the person who helped write UNRIP, UNDRIP, excuse me.And so it's just the people that we have in Alberta, who are tremendous leaders, nobody knows about them.And instead, it's, you know, squashed by this these racist comments about how these are people that are just taking money and not helping their people.And they don't understand the setbacks that have been put on First Nations.I'm recently, I'll stop here, Charlie.I've been watching the CBC Treaty Roads.

And one of the things they talked about was how First Nations couldn't even fight for their lands until the 80s, was it?So they couldn't even get legal representation to stand up for their treaty rights.So these are the setbacks that these people have overcome and are still leading having the real conversations that should be have being had and instead we have a premier that'stelling them to they're being rude.

You know what what concerns me and you know you talk about the backlash online I've turned off the Facebook comments because I don't think I don't think three -quarters of them are real and the division that you're trying to you know this sort of all these offshore bots that are driving anti -Canada pro -separatist sentiment are also driving huge racist bought farm operations to make us doubt ourselves and doubt each other.So on our Facebook page, we just had to shut it down because it was it was misrepresenting everything.But I think the thing that's really important here, you know, I didn't understand the importance of the treaties until I was elected.The fact that Treaty 9 turned over some of the richest gold, copper, iron, hydro, forestry, power in the world.That's what created Toronto.And what the communities got were shanty shack housing, bad water, the residential schools.

But it was because of Treaty 9 that my family came to Canada because they got to work in the mines.The mines were open.There was resource wealth.And what I learned is that Indigenous people will never abandon the treaties.They understand the treaties.I was the first communities I went into, they started talking about the treaties.

And I thought the treaties were something old, something forgotten.They're not.And it's an amazing moment.We may be surviving as a nation because the Indigenous leadership is holding to the treaties.And so, you know, for wherever you are in this country right now, the treaties are what's our front line, because we're not being defended by government.We're not being defended by accountability.

So when the They called out when the Treaty Chiefs 6, 7 and 8 called out Daniel Smith for treason.I took that.very, very seriously.This is not language Indigenous leaders use.And her disrespectful response, I find is Not shocking, I find it typical.But how do you think it's going to be in the long term when we're seeing such great leadership from Alberta First Nations, like Chief Alan Adam, who said that he was going to walk Daniel Smith to the border with his suitcase when it's all over?

I mean, this is a moment where we could actually choose better rather than go for worse.And that to me is the option we have in Alberta right now.What do you think?

I completely agree.I think what's interesting, if you really look at what she said, she didn't deny what they said.She did not say that she is not treasonous.She said it's rude.She said her language is rude.When you think about it, she said they should check themselves.

She did not deny the calls of treason or like the accusation of treason.So to me, it's, it's, it's a very good example.And I, you know, I want to refer back to, I know, I've had some conversations with you about her public addresses.I again, encourage people to look back at it.I did a, an episode in my podcast, with Dee Smock, we walked through the two addresses.She very, sure, she doesn't use the language of treason.

But she says that the federal government is undercutting the Constitution, which is a lie.These are the ways that she is undercutting the Constitution, using the Notwithstanding Clause to force teachers back to work, using the Notwithstanding Clause against at -risk, marginalized groups, using it to give ultimate power to her justice minister.These are the ways that she's undermining the Constitution and then saying that that's what the feds are doing to us.And again, I talk about this.sandwich that I see happening, we have this separatist agenda, or this oil and gas expansion project.Those are the two options that she's giving the country when in reality we need to be facing the fact that we're heading to a cliff right now based on the outcome of this war that's happened with the Strait of Hormuz closure.

We're facing a potential big shutdown of our entire diesel operating system in North America.The U .S.is reaching the end of its strategic reserves.These are massive issues that we're about to face.And she's not even talking about them.

Instead, she's misleading us into saying, oh, we're going to do more of this.What has it gotten us in the end?If we're in this place right now where we're about to have to have a sudden setback in the way we live our lives and not talking about this at all, and instead saying, how dare you use that language?So it's really, I think, a moment for Albertans to wake up.And that was one of the comments that Chief Starlight said in his address was that this is a moment for Albertans to wake up.Well, this is our big opportunity to wake up and start fighting with them because they need our help.

We need to be with them.We are the land.I was thinking after this week, you know, I being even third generation, even if you're second generation, you've placed roots in Alberta.And therefore we all need to who have think of ourselves as native.We are people that are being exploited by this government as well.And it's our opportunity.

to, as you said, write the treaties together, enforce the treaties together, and make sure that we're all being looked after.

Well, you know, thanks so much for that.We're going to keep on this.I mean, as you were talking, I got to get back to Alberta.I got to get back to Alberta.I got to get back to Alberta.It really is the frontline.

It is such an opportunity.If the rest of the country doesn't work together, if we don't all work together, this is a moment of disaster for us.This is the Brexit Donbass moment, but there is also the moment to choose a much better course that'll take the whole country in a better direction.So you've got to keep us updated on everything that's happening in Alberta, Jenny, because it is the frontline and we really, really appreciate your analysis.

Thank you so much for your time, Charlie, and for your audience, because, you know, I had a conversation with somebody from Ontario this past week as well.This is a time for any sort of judgment of Albertans to be set aside and to appreciate we're all Albertan in this moment, too, as Canadians, because this is not my choice that we're facing these issues.It's most Albertans do not know better if or if they do, they they don't have the power to fight.So we need all Canadians to be in solidarity with us and the chiefs in this.Thank you, Charlie, for this time.

Well, thank you for that.And yes, you know, we've said again and again, I say that every Midas Town Hall, we will not be divided from each other.Alberta is the frontline and we have to be there to have Alberta's back.So Albertans back.As for the government of Alberta, well, we got to be have their back too, as we pick them up by the scruff of the neck and throw them out the door along with the rest of their friends.But in Alberta, there's such a sense of direction.
