Cocoa dog owner jailed after fatal mauling of neighbor

We are following some breaking news right now.The owner of those two dogs that mauled a woman to death in Cocoa is now behind bars.This video shows the Brevard County Sheriff escorting her into jail.Fox 35's Chancellor Wynn is live tonight.So, Chancellor, what's she being charged with?

So the owner of those dogs is now facing a manslaughter charge.It's been just over a week since her two dogs attacked and killed a woman right in the middle of her Cocoa neighborhood.And as you mentioned, the Brevard County Sheriff walking that woman into jail and she is behind bars right here at the Brevard County Jail.I'm just thankful.So we can sleep easy tonight.People like Dominica Midkiff, who live in the Cocoa neighborhood where a deadly dog attack happened, are now breathing a sigh of relief as the owner of the two dogs, Linda Cutler, is behind bars.

I know for a fact that animal control had been called out here and pages and pages of calls.

and nothing was done.Other neighbors told Fox 35 about the alleged run -ins they've had with Cutler's dogs, who routinely escaped their yard.But Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey says animal services can't seize dogs that get out of yards, even if the dog bites someone.Ivey says the owner can still keep the dogs, depending on the severity of the bite.

They must have effective fencing, muzzle the dog anytime someone is visiting the residence, signage on all egress points saying a dangerous dog resides there, and have $100 ,000 insurance policy in the event the dog bites another person.

But on May 19th, investigators say Cutler's dogs got out again.Surveillance video shows them attacking and killing Jody Cohen.We now know she tried to protect her dog from the dangerous animals.The sheriff also revealed Cohen's husband even ran out with a knife to try and save her.Now Cutler is charged with manslaughter, and Ivy didn't hold back when he met her face to face after she was arrested at a hotel in Melbourne Beach.
