FARAGE FALLING INTO HIS OWN TRAP | Clacton Analysis

Hi, my name's Phil.I like talking about politics.So has Nigel Farage now set himself up for a fall in Clacton?Now, don't get excited.I don't mean by losing in the by -election in less than two weeks.Sure, stick with the dream if it makes you happy.

But let's just say Nigel Farage did beat Count Binface.That could still lead to an embarrassing fall later on.Binface could be the hurdle where Farage stumbles, only to come crashing down at the next one.There hasn't been a huge national media focus on Clacton, rightfully so.

It's a by -election between the incumbent pulling a political stunt and 33 joke candidates.The real news is Reform UK's financial sleaze, parliamentary and criminal investigations, and of course, the new direction of our latest prime minister.That is what the political news should be focused on this summer and at the moment is focused on.But it is still a Westminster by -election, and it does still involve a political leader.So journalists have been over there to ask the public what they think.And there have been some interesting comments crop up time after time.

One is that people are not happy that Farage has created a circus event for their town.Another is lots of people saying that if it's a choice between Farage and Binface, they'll vote for Farage.What they mean is that if Farage is the only serious candidate on offer, they'll vote for him.But the implication in a statement like that is they would vote against Farage if offered a serious candidate.That's interesting because this by -election is not the real by -election.Okay, if Count Binface wins, Farage is done for.

No way of recovering from a humiliation like that.His parliamentary investigation will be permanently paused, which he will like, but the criminal investigations will continue and Farage will not be coming back from that.But if Farage does win, but Binface attracts a sizeable protest vote, and with some locals saying they will vote Farage but only because they want a serious candidate, the next by -electionactually be a problem for Farage.Remember, he already smells danger.

There's a reason he pulled activists from Manchester, where they were campaigning hard for a competitive seat, and sent them to Clacton, where Farage should easily win.

And it's because he fears how the public will perceive the result if he doesn't completely dominate that election.When the parliamentary investigation concludes, it is likely that Farage will be found guilty.I say that not because I'm a legal expert and have viewed all the evidence.I'm not an expert, I haven't viewed all the evidence.But because Farage believes he will be found guilty.If he genuinely thought he'd done nothing wrong, he would be comfortable with the investigation.

If he genuinely had consulted a top lawyer, as he claims, he would publish their legal advice.He hasn't done so.He knows he's guilty.His lawyers have told him he'd be found guilty, and he knows the evidence against him is strong.So then it will be up to the Standards Committee to decide on a punishment.Well, due to the aggravating circumstances that is Farage impugning the honesty of the Standards Commissioner and committee, he is likely to get a slapping in the form of a hefty suspension from Parliament, enough to result in a recall petition being issued.

The recall petition will succeed, it only needs 10 % of voters to sign it and Nigel Farage will, for the second time within the space of a few months probably, no longer be an MP and left fighting his own by -election again.Ordinarily, you would think it would be easy for him.

Clacton is very reform -friendly and the vote amongst other parties is very fragmented.The main challenger will likely be the Conservative candidate.

Labour and Green supporters, as well as some Lib Dem supporters, may not hold their nose and vote Conservative, even to get rid of Nigel Farage.The party on the up at the moment is Labour.

That will only complicate things.Cakewalk for the grifter -in -chief, right?However, This summer stunt of Farage's may have upset more Clacton voters than he accounted for.

Nigel Farage has done nothing for Clacton.Nobody expects miracles from an opposition MP, but he does less work than other backbenchers.There's no record of him helping anyone.Even those who speak in favour of him can't name anything that he's done for them or their town.

all they have from him is a constant political circus.

Some of the comments I've heard, just anecdotal of course, but some of them sound like people who would welcome the chance to get rid of Nigel Farage and get an MP who will actually work for their town, who might even live in their town, who will do surgeries, listen to local people, raise issues important to them in Parliament, which Farage has never done.

You know, an MP will actually represent them in Westminster.I think at the very least, When this second by -election comes around, Nigel Farage will find the contest a lot closer than he originally expected.

I also suspect this has probably dawned on him as well.And if the public discontent continues to rise, with more coming out about his shady financial dealings with even shadier people, we could end up in one of those classic danger moments where Farage's voters don't necessarily flip their vote in large numbers, But perhaps large numbers do stay at home.In fact, a big win against BinFace may give reform voters the confidence that Farage will walk even the more serious contest, so they don't need to bother.But the anti -Farage vote could be really motivated to turn out in large numbers.This summer by -election has already backfired on Farage.That's clear.

The fact that he's failing to even campaign in his safe town, the place he won by a decent margin in 2024, is evidence of his failure to retake the initiative.But could he be setting himself up for a much bigger fall?

Losing to a Conservative candidate, that would be almost as embarrassing as losing to Count Binface in many ways.Farage's preferred narrative is that the Conservative Party is in terminal decline, that Reform UK are now the heirs apparent for the right wing.But if the Reform UK leader and their greatest electoral asset were to lose, and lose to the Conservatives, That will inevitably invite headlines asking whether reform are the ones in terminal decline and flashing the pan.If Nigel Farage had just gone along with the investigation, even if found guilty, he could have expressed genuine surprise, but held his hands up.He may still have been issued with a hefty suspension due to the scale of the amount of money, but he could have just shown some contrition, fought the by -election and certainly won.Now, I'm not so sure.

His behaviour seems to have put people off.It may even result in him losing his seat and to a serious candidate.Now, I'm not sure how long the parliamentary investigation would take.Might be done by the end of this year, I'm not sure.But even then, the by -election itself would likely be next year.

So at some point in 2027, Nigel Farage is likely facing another by -election.a real one?By then Reform UK may have fallen even further in the polls.There may be a feeling that they've failed and will lose the pragmatic votes being left only with their core supporters.Add to this the frustration of non -partisan voters in Clacton that Farage is not proven useful as their MP and we could end up with Nigel Farage losing to the party he thought he'd finished off.Now that would make for a very interesting Friday live stream.
