Farage's Funding Scandal - New Undeclared Funding Discovered

Hi, my name's Phil.I like talking about politics.So the latest on Nigel Farage's exposed dodgy behaviour is admitting that George Cottrell, known as post -George, paid for filming and allowed Nigel Farage to use his home ahead of the general election.Farage claims it was all totally undeclarable.I will bet my left buttock it is not.But before I go over the details, I just have to say that we're now seeing revelations on Nigel Farage's scandal being reported quicker than I could cover them.

We do have a new prime minister as well.Can Farage maybe just chill a bit to give me some breathing space?I mean, I'm delighted that he's decided to completely melt down and set himself on course to bailing before the next general election.But, you know, just spread the scandals out a bit is all I ask.What is it with politics?Why does it either have to be really slow, not a lot happening, or cranked up to 11?

Have these people never heard of moderation?Of course, being serious, it's not Farage who has determined the rate of revelations.He'd rather they weren't reported at all.It's the media.I said a couple of weeks ago, this felt a little bit like Partygate.The media, who will have known all about it, published a bit of the story.

waited for Johnson to respond, then published something more that caught him out.We ended up with a game of cat and mouse where Boris Johnson was absolutely the mouse.Farage's panicked response to the scandals made me think, maybe the same thing's happening here.The media have all of these details stored up.They're releasing them bit at a time to give Farage time to respond before going in with the next one.I remind people that the rules are very clear.

Anything used in a campaign of value needs to be declared.It doesn't matter whether it's physical money, anything at all.This is why Count Binface, for example, is saying there are people, independent people, who would like to collect into a campaign for him.He's saying you need to get permission.And that's because, you know, if someone, however innocently,tried to help out with something of material value like even just printing a few leaflets and they're doing it independently you know they're doing it themselves but it's still part of his campaign if you're campaigning for him it's part of his campaign in law And it would count as part of his campaign in terms of declarations.

But he wouldn't declare it because he wouldn't know about it.Right.Could get him into a lot of trouble.It's not just cash donations which need declaring anything of value.So filming for the campaign, paid for by Cottrell, that has value, needs declaring.Using his home for the campaign, that has value, that's a location, right, needs declaring.

I remind people that when a friend and Labour colleague bought Keir Starmer a pair of glasses to smarten himself up for the election campaign, that was declared.Nigel Farage joined in with the Tory client media circus in attacking it.Keir Starmer has questions to answer, he said.What questions?What questions were there about a mate and Labour politician buying him a pair of glasses which were then declared to the authorities and the public?Yet five million quid doesn't need declaring.

The cost of campaign filming doesn't need declaring.Hiring out a location for the filming doesn't need declaring.Piss off.So what's his excuse this time?Farrah says he consulted a top international lawyer and they said it was fine.Two problems with this statement.

First, it's bollocks.I guarantee no lawyer told him it was fine.First of all, it's not fine, but lawyers will not give advice outside of their area of expertise.International lawyers are experts in international law.The UK has its own rules on declarations.It's called sovereignty, Nigel.

We make our own rules, like all other countries.Nothing to do with international law.The thing about law, you can't just grab any old top lawyerLaw is highly specialised.A top international lawyer is useful for international law.This is a matter of UK public law.

He needed a specialist for that.He probably should have also consulted an expert in UK tax law as well while he was at it.The second problem, it's really easy to prove if he had legal advice.Because I'm going to say he did not have legal advice of any kind, whether it was appropriate or not.And it's easy to prove it.Just publish it.

If Faraj really did consult a top lawyer about whether he needed to declare these things, he should provide their name, their chambers and the published advice he was given.You know, redact some personal details by all means, but publish the advice.There will be nothing sensitive in the advice.Faraj claims it's simple advice on what should and should not be declared.So publish it.Oh, what's that?

You can't publish it?Is that because there was no such advice?I will remind you or inform you if you didn't know that an insider in Nigel Farage's Clacton campaign grasped him up earlier this year, revealing that he underreported spending for his own constituency.The only reason he isn't facing a police investigation for that is because apparently we have this mad rule whereby if you break electoral law, but you keep it quiet for a year, you get away with it scot free, even if proof emerges later.

That needs changing for a start.But just because the police couldn't chase him for it, doesn't mean we don't know that he is developing form for hiding funding, sometimes potentially illegally.So his arguments are cut in no ice here.He refuses to publish the legal advice, name the lawyer, and is basically admitting that the lawyer he hired isn't a relevant expert, even if we take his word for it.Farage himself has apparently acknowledged that he will be found guilty.Of course, in true Trumpian style, he's claiming this is proof that the establishment is out to get him.

No, mate, it's proof that you've deliberately broken the law and you know about it.But it will ultimately do no good.Sleaze did for the Tories in the 90s and it did for them in the 20s.The sleaze surrounding Farage is being exposed now.The public are becoming aware of it, it's coming thick and fast.And this is all really just one scandal so far.

There have been others.They may get a bit of a retelling in the media once they've run out of material on this one, assuming Farage hasn't run away by then.And there will be other scandals uncovered.There'll be scandals we don't know about yet.We may find that investigative journalists are now sniffing out further revelations because there's now a marker in the news for stories critical of Farage.So is it time to open up the betting on this?

Like, some in the media think Faraj is basically cooked and it's just a matter of when he walks, not if.Now, I think so too, but I'm basing my assumption on the fact that the media are going to continue to push these questions because they're getting some benefit from it.They're getting the clicks, which is what they want.I don't know if the media will keep pushing and pushing this.They could, in theory, just get bored with it and stop.But the insiders do.

And if some media insiders are looking at the trajectory here and they're seeing Farage exiting the stage at the end of it, that suggests they think there's a lot more to be portioned out over the coming weeks and months.And they think that their other colleagues in the media are well up for doing it.So assuming the pressure is sustained, I don't mean new revelations every week.I think we've had a bit of a peak time at the moment.But let's say there's no major period of respite before the next damaging expose.How long can Farage withstand this pressure?

Boris Johnson managed about seven months, but he was ultimately forced out.You can't force Farage out.He'd have to choose to walk.So he may last a bit longer.But how long can he last?Does he bail by Christmas?

Does he hang on until next year's local elections to see if they give him a renewed boost?What if they don't?Does he exit then?If he still does well next year, does he make it until the end of next year?Can he make it to the election?I guess it depends on what ultimately will make him walk.
