Fishing at My Remote Cabin Did NOT Go as Planned…

Welcome back to my cabin in rural Arkansas.I spent the beginning of this year knocking out some huge projects at the cabin and now it's time to dive into some other exciting adventures at my property.My cabin sits deep in the woods beside a lake and in this episode I'm trying to catch something but things don't quite end up as planned.So come along as we make the most of these extremely hot summer days and discover what lies in the depths of this lake.Happy 4th of July everyone!Semi -quincentennial.

Yep.America is celebrating 250 years and I am having guests over at the cabin today.I'm so excited.My friends Tess and Cory are coming and not only are we going to be celebrating the fourth, but we're also going to hopefully be accomplishing one of my life goals.I mentioned one of my life goals in a previous episode, but if you missed that, it's to catch a fish in the lake behind my cabin.We are going to be targeting crappie today.

I have no idea if we'll be successful.It's really, really hot.My friends should be here in a little bit.I'm gonna run the store real quick and grab a few things and hopefully we will be on the water soon.All right, I had to go to Walmart because before, after.Long ago, I bought this from the Dollar General.

Probably need some snacks.Finally got my kayak out of the cabin.I'm super stoked to have it.I don't know why it's taken me an entire year.Well, I didn't have anywhere to put it for the longest time, but yay!I love my kayak.

So, I got that loaded up.

Just waiting for our test inquiry.to get here.

I'm so excited to catch a fish.Like I said, we are gonna be targeting crappie today, the lake that I live on.It's supposed to be really good for crappie fishing.There's lots of crappie beds.And I have an idea of where they are.I'm talking to people.

But yeah, I'm not a very good fisherman.But Cory is.So it is a little sprinkly this morning.It seems like it may rain.So maybe that's a good thing.We'll see what we can get.

Cory rigged us up a bunch of rods with different bait.So we're just going to get on the water.I kind of know where the crappie holes are right now.and we're just going to start throwing stuff and see what they're eating.I can pull it into the water.You want to see?

All right.Take like five steps back.Well, don't walk.Oh gosh.Okay.One, two step.

Okay.We're good.We're good.

I didn't fall in.It rocked a little bit, but we're good.All right.We're on the water successfully.

Oh, look at the little family in the canoe.That's sweet.

Look how pretty the flowers are, though.All the lily pads have bloomed.Crazy.Okay, so we're gonna go left.This is, oh, I'm blanking on the name, butterflies all over it.

Wow.

And you can actually eat these flowers.They have some medicinal properties.So yeah, you can eat the flower and it has a calming effect to it.Kind of reminds me of like a honeysuckle.Tastes pretty good.Oh, one fell.

Look, there's a big fish right there.Wow, those trees are so pretty right now.Oh look that that fish has something or that No, not an eagle, but he's got something in his yeah words.He got that he got something Hey, how about here with this log is We go forward a little bit more.

I'm ready.

I'm ready to get the fish This is my my current life goal is to catch a fish in this lake.I've tried really hard.I think I fished like once Is this the one I did last time?Yes.If I cast there, I'm going to get stuck in all that grass.We got a minnow with a spin on it.

I'm going to try to, oh yeah.See it?See it?I look so dorky with this hat.I don't care.Oh, it's a spinner.

See, I ain't no crab.

I'm ready.I'm ready.

And so we fished and fished some more.And then I took us back to where the supposed crappie beds lived.But alas, no luck there either.The water was super shallow in this area and it was already well over 100 degrees.So I think the fish were possibly elsewhere or just over it like we were starting to be.Ain't no more fish in this lake.

All right, y 'all.

So far, not even a bite.There's got to be a fish in this lake.There's just got to be.Please, please just amuse me, just one of you.And just as we were getting ready to go back in and call it a day, our luck suddenly turned.

Oh my gosh, Cory's got a huge bass.

Dude, that thing is massive.Oh, he's beautiful.Okay, screw crappies, he's beat up.

Yeah, he's beat up.We're not gonna eat this one.

Dang, what's wrong with him?He got like cancer or something.

I thought I hit a log at first.

Dude, he's huge.He's gotta be what?Choke that thing.

Gonna hold it?Put it in the boat.Or put it in the water.

Cory just caught a four pound bass.We changed out my lure for a top water.We're gonna just try to catch some bass since the crappie don't want to bite today.I don't care what we catch.

I just want to catch something else.

Whoa, holy crap.Some fish just jumped right next to me.Oh, there he is again.99 cent corndogs at Sonic today.If all else fails.I'm gonna do a couple more casts and then probably we're gonna head back to the house and start grilling up some burgers.

Found this shaded spot.I just want to catch a fish.Well y 'all, I got skunked but it was an awesome morning on the water and Cory's bass is awesome.So he's i'm happy but it's too hot we have given up and we're gonna go back to my house and grill some burgers and some hot dogs and have us a good fourth of july all right guys option one was to eat fish we really wanted to do that obviously that's not happening so i thought ahead and i've got burgers and hot dogs for everybody.I actually bought a black stone for the fish fry and everything, but I didn't have time to set it up and we're hungry so we're just gonna do charcoal.Okay, we got a little Fourth of July spread.

Callan's gonna try a peep for the first time.If he eats a piece of his hot dog.Alright, Callan!Are you ready to try your peep?Callan's never had a peep before.Because Tess doesn't let him eat bad things.

It's about to storm any second.Dad surprised me and came over and helped me move my new addition to the cabin in the shipping container temporarily until I can get it put together.And I finally got my kayak at headquarters for future fishing expeditions.

Dad also brought Toby, so I got to spend the rest of the day hanging out with him and just enjoying my cabin, truly.For the first time in a long while, since I'veof this year, it's just been project after project.It's nice to just be able to sit and take it all in.Okay guys, it is later in the fourth.Toby was delivered and we are going up to the top of the hill to see if we can see fireworks.

I hear them all around the cabin, but we're down in the haulers, so we're gonna see if we can't see some on the ridge.Hello everybody from my cabin.Admittedly, it's been a few days since, well, quite a few days since I last filmed for this video.I actually went somewhere.Some of you guys know where that is, but I'm going to keep it a surprise for the rest of you.That video will be coming out soon, but I am back at the cabin and it is hot.

No, like really, it's been 100 plus degrees.We had 124 degree heat index day the other day.It's been crazy.And everybody that doesn't have to be outside's, you know, not really spending much time out.including me.Even though I have a couple things that I wanted to add to this video that require me to be outside.

So I've tried to figure out which one I will add to this video and I think I've finally decided.Leaves are starting to fall because it's been so cold.I mean cold, oh my gosh, I can't talk.been so hot, but I think fall is still quite a bit away.All right, so in the shipping container we go.And I'm walking in here and completely forgot what I'm gonna get.

We need this.And we need...There it is.

That's what I want.Boom.

So I feel like I just couldn't leave you guys hanging.Like I didn't catch a fish.The video that I had imagined didn't catch a fish.pan out quite as planned which does happen time to time but instead of just leaving you with like a pointless plot i'm gonna extend the pointless plot even further and go back out on the water and try to catch something but this time not a fish i don't know fish aren't biting there's no fish left in the lake it's just too hot but today we're gonna go fishing for something else and toby's gonna go on this adventure he has not been on the water since last year.I took him out for his first time and he was a little unsure at first and then he ended up loving it.And that's kind of the story with Toby.

He's always very cautious at first of everything, scared even, and thenhe realizes it's fun and he has the best time of his life.And you know what?I love that about him.It's okay to be a little bit scared at first, but most of the time being scared is for no reason.And it ends up being like the best thing ever.

Okay.So in the last episode, you guys saw, I finally got my clean water and it's been about, it's been a few weeks since I've gotten to enjoy my water.And it is just so good.It's truly life -changing to have clean water.good clean water.So quick little backstory.

My grandparents used to live on a huge farm in Illinois and they had well water and the water was super soft.It tasted so good.If you've ever had well water compared to city water, you know what I'm talking about.We used to make this iced tea with celestial fruit teas and my grandma would just use this exact tea maker, brew the tea, And then put it in the refrigerator and we would just drink it.No added sugar, nothing, just the tea.And it was like the best thing in the world.

So when they moved to Arkansas, you know, she brought her tea maker and summertime came and she went to make her tea.Realized that the tea does not taste good with city water.Like it's just, just not the same.It's gross.When I got my water, my grandma was like, you should try to make that tea with your well water.So earlier I brewed some tea.

and we're gonna try it together for the first time.

I'm really excited.If this is good, it'd be like the best thing in the world.

Anyway, let's get her poured up.

Also, this is my favorite time of day at the cabin.

The sun just comes in perfectly through these windows and it's just so, so nice and pretty.We get our glass here, pour it up, see how she tastes.Oh, gotta put this in on mode.This is raspberry zinger, cheers.Wait, it's pretty good.That's pretty close.

Yeah, that's really good.Oh my gosh.Grandma, we have our tea again.I'm gonna have to bring you some.You have to come over and try it.It's so good.

Yay, this is exciting.No sugar or anything, but love that.Love that for me.Howdy.

Me and Toby are finna go magnet fishing on my lake.And some of you guys may remember last year, I brought my drone out to the lake and it nosedived to the bottom of the lake and still sits there, presumably.And so I'm gonna see if I can't get that, find that, fish it out.I mean, it's long gone, but just, you know, just to see if I can and then also see what else is in the bottom of the lake that might be interesting who knows we may or may not catch something but it will be fun and excitingbecause this guy's gonna get on the water with me.You better stay inside.

Toby, stay inside.Dang.You know, I love summer, but I'm just itching 24 -7.There's so many just itchy, bitey things.It's getting to be that point in the Arkansas summer that it's like, all right, this is getting old.We've had a very, very hot summer.

Even for Arkansas, it's been 100.It's just been so humid and hot.So, you know, it is what it is.Okay, so we have my paddle board.We're gonna inflate and we have this magnet fishing kit that I actually bought last year and never got around to it.So yeah, we're gonna finally open her up and see what we got.

My neighbor has a paddle board blower upper, so I'll get that for her.Toby, leave her alone!I'm telling you are the most annoying dog.Get him, Lucy!Get him!Get him!

Get him!Toby, Toby come.Sit down, sit down.Sit down.Looks so good in his vest.Say hi.

Get ready to get on the water.All right y 'all, we have Toby in his life vest.We have the whole squad.This is Pete, Foster, Toby, and Lucy.I have no idea how Corinna's gonna have all these dogs on her board.but it's probably going to be easier than just having one Toby on the board.

We'll see how this goes.Let's open our fishing kit.

Well, we're, uh, we're completely winging this, but, um, yeah, I guess if we lose this, we just buy another magnet to get it out.We have our magnet fishing kit.We have our Toby in the life vest and my board's almost done blowing up.All right guys, this is the exact spot or close to it where my drone should be so I'm gonna just go ahead and drop this in see what happens if I got it the first time Toby doesn't understand what I'm doing putting his head underwater and blowing bubbles Well, should we kayak to the island?All right.Well, magnet fishing is a bit of a fail.

This has now turned into a Toby paddling adventure.So we're going to take him to the island because he likes to jump around in the water.And it's honestly super cute.So let's go.Good boy.You'll fall in again.

This water is like literally every year this water gets warm come middle of summer and just like a week ago It felt pretty good and refreshing, but it is like hot bath water now gnarly Absolutely magical on the lake.There's nobody else out here other than meThe sunset is just so pretty.The water's calm, slowly getting cooler.There's this nice breeze coming in.I love it.
