Flyers Sign Leo Carlsson to Offer Sheet, Bolts Add Harkins, Sharks Bribe THG

Welcome back.The Philadelphia Flyers just caused all hockey fans to say, you're doing what?So the Philadelphia Flyers have signed Leo Carlson to an offer sheet.Five year contract pays him $18 million a season.That's more than Kaprizov.It's a lot of money.

Now the Anaheim Ducks have $35 .17 million in cap space.So if they match this, they then have to go out and sign Carter Gauthier as well and it suddenly becomes very expensive to sign Carter Gauthier I would think.Offer sheets, you design them with the idea that you're going to take the player from the other team, you want to make it as difficult for the other team to match as possible.The Ducks came out recently and said no matter what the offer is, we're ready to match it.

This, as I mentioned the other day, was the reason why they stayed out of the free agent market but That's a lot of money.That's $90 million over 5 years for Leo Carlsen.Now Leo Carlsen, I'm gonna say, is a star forward in the National Hockey League.And his stock is just gonna rise this coming year.He is that first line center that Philadelphia has needed for a long time.So I totally understand what Danny Breyer is thinking here.

And it is risky, obviously it's very risky, but what it does is it sends a message to the Philadelphia Flyers as well that their general manager believes that they can contend.You're not going to sign Carlson to a contract that pays him $18 million a year if you're expecting the team to fall back out of the playoffs next year.And if they do get Leo Carlson added, that's fantastic for Philly, right?Now, it is four first rounders that Anaheim would get as at basically his compensation for losing Carlson if they let him go.So the question becomes, those four first round draft picks, is it worth it if you're Anaheim?I'm thinking Pat Verbeek's answer to that would be no.

The Anaheim Ducks just got out of a rebuild.If they let Carlson go, that leaves them with an issuein terms of depth down the middle.could leave them in a position where maybe they end up outside of the playoff picture early in the season, maybe they'll need to do more in the offseason to make sure they don't fall out of the playoff picture.This is a very important moment for Pat Verbeek, I think it's a nice gutsy move by Danny Breer.All of the reporting on this so far has basically been, whoa, yes, or fantastic.

Because it is the usage of offer sheets, it's that thing that we talk about often.that the GMs just won't do.GMs all want to get along with each other, they don't want to cause any kind of strife.Well, Danny Briere decided he doesn't mind a little bit of strife if it means adding Leo Carlsen to the team.So you guys can let me know your thoughts.I mean 18 million is a lot, I'm not gonna say it's not, but this is a number that's designed to cause Anaheim to at least give some pause as to whether or not they're going to respond.

As mentioned, seven days.Seven days the Ducks have to respond to this and we'll see whether the Ducks figure four first round draft picks are worth it or if they give $18 million a year to Leo Carlson.It's a lot of money.I did mention that we were going to see some contracts this summer that were a lot of money.We've seen that at free agency and now with an offer sheet, it's a ton.it's it's a ton of cash.

Another news item that's taken place over the last hour or so is that Jansen Harkins has signed a one -year contract with Tampa.It's two ways $850 ,000 at the NHL level and $250 ,000 at the AHL level.Now I also want to pivot to what I was getting ready to do a video of and so I wanted to talk a little bit about the San Jose Sharks.10 years ago when this channel was starting up I had teams I really couldn't stand.Pittsburgh San Jose, Anaheim, LA, we're all on the list.Anaheim has spent years bribing me.

San Jose has spent years bribing me, and the bribery continued this morning.Absolutely did.So I've got some new stickers that I can use now.They're a little bit big for the news board, but I can absolutely use them.Really like the Northern California one.I really like this one.

I've been looking for basically a magnet.Again, it's a little big, but I'm not going to complain.That's fine.I can find use for those.And it came along with a card.

which I will use this as well.I, I do.I, every, I'm like, oh, that logo, that'll work.That'll work for videos.So don't be surprised when I cut out that, that logo and, and use that on a board for, uh, for San Jose videos.Um, now it says, hi, Shannon, a birdie told us that you were a big fan of the Kudas black alternate Jersey.

And since we know you can't get one up there, which is true, uh, we thought we would get one to you.And then it's a got hashtag.The future is teal.So the San Jose Sharks bribery of the hockey guy continues, and I'm not going to say whether it's working or not, but that's a beautiful jersey.Basically what happened was we went to an Abbotsford game, the San Jose Barracuda come out, they're wearing these jerseys, and seeing them in person I was like, I need that.

And my wife, being my wife, said, I don't think you need it.Because need is different than want, right?But for me it is kind of a need.I really like the striping.I think the striping is really nice.I love the color.

I love the teal here I do really like what the Barracuda have got done here And this is part of the reason why I'm interested to see how the San Jose's PWHL jerseys are gonna turn out But yeah, so I wanted to show this to all you fine people of the internet and then the flyers were rude and and made that that offer so at the start of this video there's gonna be people thinking why would he be wearing sharks, but I felt like I had to I was wearing my my Canada jersey from the World Cup and I thought I don't really have a reason to wear that video.But yeah, so this is added to the collection.I'll make sure it's added to my countdown, which I am updating.I'm not doing the jersey countdown this summer, but next summer I will likely do another jersey countdown.and this will definitely be on it.Really, really like that.
