I don't know how to translate this, sorry.
Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God, believe also in me.My father's house has many rooms. If that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me, that you may also know where I am.You know the way to the place where I'm going, Thoma said to him.
Lord, we don't know where you are going, so how can we know the way?Jesus answered, I am the way, and the truth, and the life.No one comes to the Father except through me.Peace I leave with you, my peace I give you.I do not give to you as the world gives.Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not be afraid.
And now I have your gumption, Elaine.himself as a troubadour, spending a life marching through the towns and villages of the world. He was so well known on the big stages of Ireland.and all over the world. But to us, who were close to him, he was an ordinary, kind -hearted, generous belly -mun man, a true dob.In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.Goodbye in a hundred from us on this side.In West Kerry, where you visited recently, with Christian Máire, by your side, among your friends forever, in Balaglayshire and O 'Norlin, peaceful, where we drank a health to your great hero, Denis Sheehy.Your name is in the mouths of people, you of the big heart, generous and truthful, a one -off person whose likes again we won't meet.We set you free to the land of eternity, where you'll find your solace from the cares of this world, where a huge welcome awaits the friends who went before you.You left on a huge full moon.
You left us broken -hearted.But we will heal, as we must do, yet at a loss.for our warrior in every gap.I'll be a fan of you forever, Glenn. You beautiful, beautiful man.

Glenn Hansard, the musician.Glenn Hansard from the frames, from the swell season, the bard, the troubadour, the friend.Glenn Hansard, the boss, the glue to so many. He's with us all, even now.And he has all these things. But before Glenn was any of these, he was a son, a brother, a brother.
and I promise you, a mad uncle.Glenn was an older brother of Dylan, between Dylan, my twin brother, and I.It was a 16 -year age gap. This means that Glenn was more than an older brother. He was a father figure. One of the earliest memories, one of the earliest associations we have with our brother is the light of his scooter coming down the driveway.
That light, that lighthouse, meant that the whole evening was about to change, and change for the good. You knew that the evening might be filled with songs, with stories, with tea, with chips, and egg.And whatever happened, you knew that you were going to be completely felt, heard, understood, and filled with fresh excitement and possibly hope. And he had that unique ability to listen in and to zero in on someone, onto us, and to give them his full attention. And as a young man, the power of that could not be overstated.Glenn wanted to know.
to really know what was going on, deeply, not just on the surface, not just the day -to -day.He wanted to know everything, your weakness, your struggles, who you were.He wanted to know the mist and gist of all, of how he could help. And he had a way of making you feel like you mattered. And then when he would leave, I personally wouldn't be able to sleep because I'd be so lit up with possibility. And Glenn made me feel that the world was afloat.
more magical place than it seemed at the time to a young, shy boy from North Dublin. He sang songs. He was a storyteller. He would come in and turn the evening around. And it was easy to look up and be inspired, but also he did the hard work.He wanted us to be better more than we realized that we could be.
For his little brothers, he did those hard stuff. He instilled morals, a moral compass. He took responsibility and would say, you're not doing that, you're not missing school, you're not spraying paint on walls, you're not getting tattoos on your belly of a Finnish goth metal band you only listened to for two months. He pushed us when we weren't doing our best.He saw that we were what we were going to be, not just what we wore at the time.Sometimes that meant dragging us.
kicking and screaming, and throwing us into the back of his Nissan Micra to drag us down to school when we refused to go.And on the way, he promised us that if our uniforms weren't on by the time we got there, we were going in in our underwear. And he meant it.And he did this even after getting in at 5 a .m.from gigging the night before.
He was also the brother that could see through the fog and see that you needed a walk, a talk, or maybe neither. But he put himself out there.Glenn took us for walks in St. Anne's Park, Portmarnock Beach, just so we could get it off our chest and throw it back into the sea.He was our big brother, but he was also a younger brother. He was a younger brother to our brother, Gary. They had a whole life together before Dylan and I were born.
along. And in this life, Gary took Glenn around Ballymun on the back of his chopper, which Glenn called the spin.Give us a spin. He's like, please take me for a spin. And Gary used to be bribed by our mother that if he went into bed and got Glenn to sleep, he could come back out and watch the late movie. So Gary sang and told stories to Glenn until he fell asleep.

Get started freeAnd it was with Gary that Glenn first picked up the guitar with our Uncle Paul, Glenn's hero.who led the helm in teaching us guitar.Gary was the first to start playing guitar, but Glenn soon followed, and Glenn very quickly surpassing him.He would always call his big brother, Gary, for his help, even though Glenn had everybody in the world on speed dial.He still called Gary when the chips were down and he needed somebody.I know that Glenn made ripples.
I know he made waves. He had an impact on so many.Look at this room. But those first ripples and waves began at kitchen tables in Ballymun and Colester. And it's at those kitchen tables that for us, he will remain.I remember when Glenn's first stage was our house and his audience, our ma and da and us brothers.
Glenn said once that when you lose someone, you don't really lose them, you inherit the best parts of them. And if you have the strength and the will, you will gain them back and you inherit the best parts of them. And we have.We have inherited all the magical, colorful words, hugs, talks, madness, sadness, insightful manic beauty that a brother, an uncle, a husband, and a father could ever give.Thank you, Glenn.Thank you, brother.
Thank you.Thank you.Thank you.Thank you.Thank you.
I'd like to begin by thanking Gardaí Keith Cribbin, Lucy Byrne, Adam Heffernan, Jordan Walsh, and Gareth McArdle for coming to Glenn's aid after the accident, and for the humanity they showed me in my most desperate hour.I can find no adjective for the kind of support the family has been shown this past week. The word is hidden somewhere in the look in people's eyes and in the depth of their good deeds.None of this could have been done without you, most of whom I've not even met yet.I owe my deepest gratitude to all our good friends who have spared no effort to guide me through this time.As Glenn's wife, I want to thank him for the life we shared, searching for truth and beauty side by side.
We found it in our son, Christy, today. He is too young to witness or understand an event of such scale. The bright spirit he inherited from his father is with us.I end with an early poem I penned for Glenn in return for the songs he wrote for me.Come to me with beauty.I require it to stay alive.
I'm not talking of precious gifts.nor do I want a dolled -up, dutiful, and well -assessed array of tender words.Hurl the clash of what you've pocketed from this day at my feet, and then be brave enoughto look me in the eye, push the boundary of two minds till it stretches, till there are two bodies in one embrace, and a moment of understanding, or acceptance, or blind faith, and a sense of the infinite jump and jive. That to me is beauty, and I require it to stay alive.
We gotta think like, oh, it's really very fineWalk with you forever.
in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. There are some people who are remembered not only for what they achieved, but for the goodness they brought to the lives of others.Glenn was one of those people. His untimely death is a profound loss to his wife Myra, young son Christy, all the family, and his countless friends, but it is also a profound loss to the world of music in Ireland and far beyond these shores.Glenn's remarkable gifts and outstanding talent, which touched so many hearts, took him from the streets of Dublin to audiences across the globe, and his songs will continue to be loved for generations to come.Yet today, our thoughts rest not first on the artist, but on the man himself.
Those who knew Glenn speak not only of his talent, but of his generosity, his humility, his warmth, and his instinctive kindness. He always had time and compassion for people. He delighted in encouraging others. He responded quietly to human need and never seemed to lose the ability to speak.individual behind the crowd. There was a gentleness about him that drew people towards him and a generosity of heart that left them better for having met him.
He had a rare gift of making others feel seen, valued and loved. That approach was reflected in so much of Glenn's life and work.Despite his international success, He never lost sight of his roots or of the importance of human connection.Year after year, he returned to Grafton Street on Christmas Eve, busking to raise funds for those experiencing homelessness and reminding us that music can be an act of compassion as much as performance. Here in St. Patrick's Cathedral, we were privileged to know Glen in a very special way.He performed here on many occasions, not as a distant celebrity, but as a cherished friend of this ancient place.
His voice filled these hallowed walls not only with beautiful music, but with humility, with hope, and a genuine delight in being among people. It was therefore entirely fitting that when the streets fell silent during the COVID pandemic, the cathedral became the place where Glenn's tradition of generosity continued. When public health restrictions made the traditional Christmas Eve busk on Grafton Street impossible, Glen and his fellow musicians gathered here instead for a busk transmitted virtually on the Simon Community YouTube, raising over one and a half million euros.for the charity, and reminding us all that music is a gift not simply to perform, but to bring comfort, dignity, and hope to those who need it most.Glenn's life, therefore, reminds us that in a world so often captivated by success and acclaim, it is kindness offered freely and consistently that is remembered longest.and leaves the deepest mark.
Kindness will always live on in the hearts of those whose lives we have touched.Glenn understood that.In the end, that is the greatest legacy anyone can leave.Songs may become part of our culture, but kindness becomes part of other people's lives.Glenn leaves behind friendships that enriched us, acts of generosity that will never be forgotten, encouragement that gave others confidence and memories that time itself will never erase.Today, we give thanks to Almighty God for Glenn's life, for his immeasurable contribution to music, for the happiness he brought to so many, and for the privilege of having known him.
We commend him into God's eternal love, praying that he may rest in peace and rise in glory. We also pray for all who mourn him, We remember his wife Myra, their cherished son Christy, his brothers Gary, Dylan, Richard, and David, his sister Martina, his sisters -in -law, nieces, nephews, extended family, lifelong friends, neighbors, and countless fans and followers.May you be comforted that although Glenn's voice is now stilled, the goodness, the compassion, and generosity which marked his life will continue to bear fruit in the countless lives he touched. As we commend him into God's loving care, May we find strength in the Christian hope of the resurrection, confident that love is stronger than death and that those who rest in Christ are held forever in God's eternal embrace.May Glenn rest in peace and may light perpetual shine upon him.
In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.Amen.
I would like to speak for my family and say We want to say how absolutely blown away and humbled and so thankful we are for the incredible, huge amount of love and honour and dignity that the people of this country have shown us.around the world have shown to my brother.Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Why didn't you see him cry? It's black as night, and I'm as cold as ice.Oh mama, what's that lie?I said you see his dick.Tides of time, they wait for no mail.I'm no exception to the rule.
A twist of fate stole his time away. And sometimes life can be so cruel. It's always darkest before the break of dawn.A voice kept ringing my head.Oh mama, hold my hand.Try to Understand you see my insidious.

Well done, Gary.Earlier on, Cullum and Liam, and Seamus here, played a beautiful slow air called Port Nabookie, which means the music of the ghosts. And this tune came out of the Great Blasket Islands.Tony McMahon, the accordion player, the late accordion player, spoke about that tune in an interview in a very profound way.And I just want to share this little piece before I sing my song.He said, in the modern world, One doesn't play a slow air which tries to touch the pulse of an individual who may be a little bit lonely going through life.
He also said that here in Ireland we are not governed by laws and mechanics. We are with the old ways and the old religions that rocks and rivers and mountains are inhabited by spirits and our music is a lonely way of bringing that out.I was very inspired by this and I told Glenn I was inspired by this.I ended up writing a song about it and it's significant that I've been asked to sing this song today.Eight years ago, Glenn and Moira gave me the keys to a beautiful apartment. It was an extraordinary apartment in Dublin.
It had very high ceilings.but it was like a cottage inside. And I stayed there for seven years. And Glenn gave me the keys.He said, let your imagination grow in this big space and write songs. And I did.
And this is the first one I wrote the first week I moved in.I remember sitting in the windowsill of this extraordinary place.with one leg out the back, one leg out the window and the other leg in the flat. And this song came to me.And two years later, Brendan Begley told me that the first tune that was ever played in that flat before I ever moved in when it was a construction site was Port Nabookie. He was in there with Glenn.
So this is Old Note.
new among my mind. You hold the note, the note just moves the movement.Let go of the note and so move everything.I can't come to quantify the feeling.I was walkin' home half in the dreamin' The things that I was thinkin' I was singin' The wind whistled you in behind the springin' It stands around the star before me And spun and swooped and sank in rock beneath me Remember what I've carried since I met me And shot me back into the ground below me And yet another note long buried And sat upon its shoulders was a memory Homeward sea Both me's gone so noisy Most think I do not recognize me Feathered friend, dig up and resurrect meTo live among this song of bardies A lawless league of lonesome, lonesome beauty Skies and skies and skies above duty The wind whistled you in behind the springtime Float, old note you among my mind you hold a note the note just moves to move man let go of the note and so move everything i can't come to quantify the feeling i was walking home half in a dream the things that i was thinking i was singing The wind whistled you in behind the spring
Glen used to slag me.Say yeah, them's your only half an arts either.Your dad's from Pears Street, 200 yards south.200 yards. The Lake Regales, the Mighty Frames asked me to sing this song for Glen.So I'll lash it out for them and Glen.
Safe travels Glen.Say hello to Sinead and Seamus and Shane and Christy and all the great soul singers.
She loves the grouse, the buckles round. She watches Chacho's under soaps.Broken hearted but she copes.I'm Michael's elf, Fizzy's sinking in.He's unshaven, I'm a mess.Finds it hard some days to dress.
He smashed the bell, Dick I express himself. He's never seen me.What's the kettle on the boil?
So 187 ,321 best friends.Really, two and a half million second best friends. And they really, everyone, how do you do that?People on the green outside in the park, best friends.People tuning in, best friends. And it's not messing.
And even people who haven't met them, best friends. And that's maybe more important at all.But anyway, everyone who met them was, you know, They just remember the day they met him, I think. And I got a...The other day I woke up with a message, a voice message from Patti Smith, another one of his best friends. And it was...
the news after her first reaction to hearing the news of Glenn's passing. And she left this voice message. It's a lullaby for Glenn's family and friends. But she was happy to share it with you all.She would rather be here herself, of course, but Tony Shanahan is here representing.I think I'm gonna try and play it.
It'd have to be a bit quiet, but...Will I try it?Or just...Okay.It's just your meat gland, this atmosphere.
Wow.
The heart is a balloon, shoots up through the stony ground, there's no room.no space to rent in this town. You're out of luck, and the reason that you had to care. The traffic is stuck. You're not moving anywhere. You thought you'd found a friend to take you out of this place.
Someone you could lend a hand in return for grace. It's a beautiful day.The sky falls. You feel like it's a beautiful day.Let it get away. You're on the road, but you've got no destination.

No one is a hopeless case.See those eyes flashing landing light blue Seven towers holding up the sky for you Arrivals and departures, this is what we do You write your life too, the story becomes true Ginger cake smile, a movie star too In the street, if the street be your stage How come there's thousands in the queue?McDade's feels like a stadium, but there's only me and you You left a hangover from hell, of this there is no doubt but as you wake up in heaven all the angels will shout holy shoutWould you join us?
suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead.He ascended into heaven and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.I believe in the Holy Ghost, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.
Amen.Let us pray.A prayer of thanksgiving for Glen's life and for his service to others.his love of this city and this country, and his desire to build bridges of understanding.Above all, we thank you for the man behind the music, for his humility, his warmth, his generosity of heart, his deep humanity, his laughter, and the quiet goodness that touched so many lives.Granted all that it was gracious and noble in his life, may continue to inspire us to live with kindness, courage, creativity, and love.
And may the legacy he leaves continue to bear fruit to the praise and glory of your great name through Jesus Christ, our Lord.As we have given thanks to almighty God for all that Glenn has meant to so many, so now let us pray for those who mourn his passing, that they may be sustained by God's grace and strengthened by the hope of Christ's resurrection.Grant, O Lord, to all who are bereaved the spirit of faith and courage, that they may have strength to meet the days to come with steadfastness and patience, not sorrowing as those without hope, but in thankful remembrance of thy great goodness in past years and in the sure expectation of a joyful reunion in the heavenlies.and this we ask in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord.As we pray for those who mourn we are reminded that the promise of Christ's resurrection is held out to us all so let us therefore pray that when our own earthly journey is ended We too may be brought into the fullness of God's presence and share the eternal joy prepared for all who love him.Bring us, O Lord, at our last awakening into the house and gate of heaven, to enter into that gate and dwell in that house where there shall be no darkness nor dazzling, but one equal light.
No noise nor silence, but one equal music. No fears nor hopes, but one equal possession. No ends nor beginnings, but one equal eternity in the habitations of thy glory and dominion.World without end.Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, forever and ever.Amen.The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with us all evermore.
Amen.
God, our creator and redeemer, by your power Christ conquered death and entered into glory, confident of his victory and claiming his promises. We now leave your servant, Glenn, in your gracious keeping. In the name of Jesus, our Lord, who died and is alive and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
Amen.
Go forth upon your journey from this world, O Christian soul, in the name of God the Father Almighty, who created you, in the name of Jesus Christ, who suffered death for you, and in the name of the Holy Spirit, who sanctifies you.In communion with the blessed saints and aided byangels and archangels and all the armies of the heavenly host.May your rest this day be in peace and your dwelling place in the heavenly Jerusalem.Amen.
God bless and keep you all, hear your wishes, and may you always, and let others, do for you.Build the stars, climb on, see it's light.
surrounding you.
Take your hands up.Don't forget your chair.Somebody help, my voice is gone.
