Graphic videos of Charlie Kirk spread fast, showing how media's role has changed

Traditional news outlets were very cautious in the images they showed in the wake of Charlie Kirk's assassination. They understand their gatekeeper role in not wanting to shock their viewers with things they don't expect, so they generally showed pictures of him speaking or appearing in the crowd before he was shot, and pictures of the crowd scattering after the shots. But in some sense it didn't really really matter because people could easily go online and find some very gory pictures,

very gory video showing blood, showing him recoiling, showing him from many different angles because he was speaking in a public place with a lot of people who had cameras to record a public figure. Places like Facebook and Instagram and YouTube

have policies about gory video and trying not to have it spread, but it didn't really seem to make much difference in the wake of the shooting, and it's one thing that news organizations and the world in general have to consider
