Gus gives Adam Doueihi AND the Tigers a serve over ongoing saga | 100% Footy
A big day at the club and no doubt even bigger tomorrow. All eyes on Adam Dewey as he trains with the team. The big question coming out of today and I don't know if West Tigers fans, Gus, would have been filled with too much confidence. Is it tenable?Adam Dewey after what we've seen unfold over the last few days.
Well, if I give an opinion on that, I'm basing it on what people are saying in the media at the moment about what they believe has happened inside that club and inside those conversations. At the forefront of all of that is that everybody in the media that wants to comment on this claims to have some sort of inside source to give them the real story behind what's happened.Yet a lot of those stories conflict in who they're supporting, Adam Dewey or the coach or everyone else in the organisation. For me, that's the first thing the West Tigers have got to get right for their future. It's about who talks to the media and who doesn't talk to the media within their organisation.Being able to trust the people in their office, trust the people in the locker room, that they're not talking outside the circle of trust to people in the media.
Because it seems anyone who is anyone in the media claims to have an inside source at that club. And that inside source seems to get the news out to the media very, very quickly in even the most private of conversations. It's incredible how this gets out into the media. And once it's into the media, the club loses all control.all control over what the members is to their members, to their fans, to their sponsors, to the rest of the rugby league community. That opens its way up for everyone else who's got a podcast or a column or any sort of comment piece to be able to give them plenty of advice on what they're doing.
I'm not going to give them advice.Other than that, they've got to fix that part of their organisation going forward, regardless of who stays, who goes or what their future looks like. They've got to take control over who talks to the media within their organisation, either through the correct channels or through leaking as doing a favour to mates in the media. That's what I think needs to be done regardless of how this ends up.
Gus is 100 % right there but the problem that Adam Dewey has is all we can talk about is what we know and what we know is that Adam Dewey has stood himself down from the team. There's no bigger breach of trust in the game of rugby league thanstanding yourself down and not to play. You put yourself above the team. That's the biggest betrayal of trust as a football player goes.Well as footballers we know that's wrong.
That's absolutely wrong. We can't even contemplate a player doing that.
I can't believe the club hasn't breached him.
If that's what's happened.
That's all we know Gus.That's all we can comment on.All we can comment on is what we know and the fact is he stood himself down.
What worried me was that over the weekend there were stories circulating suddenly coming out in support of Adam Dooey for that action that somehow he was being stand up and doing it on behalf of his teammates because there were other people in the club that needed to be held to count. There was all of a sudden this swing around to the extent of Adam Dooey being slammed by every ex -player and current player saying you just don't do that to your coach. To saying, oh no, Adam Dooey's been really tough here, he's standing up for the rest of the team and what he believes is wrong with the club, which I find absolute crap.
Have we got any details on what those elements are?
No, nor do they divulge what it is. just a smoke job, like the whole lot of it is.As footballers, as people that have been in the game for a long time, the coach tells you to play that position, that's the position you play.
And that's going to be the next problem for Benji Marshall as a coach. He believes that he should move to Loch. And that's fair enough as a coach, you have to make that decision, particularly on the back of four or five losses straight. But what's Benji do now?Apparently he's coming back into the side this week, so it'll be very interesting to see where he plays. If he gets put straight back into half -back, It's like he's throwing his toys out of the cot and he gets everything he wants.
I think the whole situation is embarrassing.I thought the club should have at least breached him, if not fined him.And Adam Dewey, I've got nothing against Adam Dewey.Nothing at all.I think he's a great player. He's very, very unlikely to make an origin.
How did he not get injured this year?I think he plays origin.
Because he's versatile.Because he's versatile.
He's fighting against it.But what he's done here is absolutely unacceptable. And if I'm one of his teammates, I'm almost saying mate, I don't want you to play.
they're already losing Luai. From the outside, looking in as a football decision, that does make sense because you've got two of your best players that can still play there and you're working on your future which has to change because Luai is leaving.Even that decision alone, saying I don't want to play Locke, I want to play here, I don't think is the right decision for the team. That is a selfish decision because they need to develop those players and for me, that's the best way to do it.I think Adam Dewey's played his best football under Benji Marshall.Like, he's gone through a couple of ACLs, he's gone through a few wooden spoons at the Tigers.

Get started freeI actually think he was playing his best footy under this current coach. So, there's definitely more to this story.
Lockie, if you're captaining this West Tigers side, how are you approaching this week?
Well, I think the first thing is obviously trying to calm the players down and not to listen to the outside noise. There's a lot of it.There's a lot of it, right? And we haven't heard from Adam Dewey on this, right? Now, we just assume that he's opted not to play because he didn't like the position. Now, we don't know if that's the truth or not.
Team comes first. You just, you play where you have to play.So a lot of this, the other parts of this, I reckon, stems a lot, I think, the club has fractured since the Jerome Leroy signed. Now, that's nothing against Jerome, but I just wonder whether, because I talk, you know, a lot of people get, when they watch the way our players sign for other clubs, well before they go to that club.particularly AFL people, they reckon it's madness that we do that.So I just wonder whether we need to open that conversation because I think that's fractured this club.
You should try to deal with it in club land. It's incredible. It's incredible. But the more you say it, the more that other people push back against it.You give all power to the player and all power to the player and manager. The problem with clubs is clubs have very little power now in contract negotiations over player managers and players simply because of that fact.
I mean we've got to make decisions on two different levels.in March, April and May this year to avoid managers waiting till November 1 to try and put pressure on for increased prices and it's madness what they do.They hand this to the media and they hand this to the player managers. It's madness what we do.Absolute madness. So are we all agreeing?
I don't know if we've had an answer here on whether or not he's going to be a Tiger beyond 2026.We don't know.
I want to preface everything we're saying here in saying that the only information we get is coming out of the media.Who's feeding the media those stories?I don't know.As we said, we haven't heard from Adam Dewey.Adam Dewey hasn't fronted up, I don't think, anywhere and said this is why I said what I said, or this is what I said, this is why I did it, and this is the reason why I did it.
We're only making comments on what we know.I've got no doubt there's more going on at the top.I agree with Lachie, I think it's a fractured playing roster.I think there's more going on there.Look, there's rumours floating around he wants to leave, he wants to get out, he wants to look at other options.Maybe that's happening, we don't know.
But all we're commenting on at the moment is what we know.
I think some of their form this year, well they started the year really good.I mean we had high hopes for them this year.I think there was a long injury run there too, which led to a number of losses, which also puts pressure on everyone within the organisation. And some of that was out of their control. But then that's led to the Louis situation on the back of this now, the Dewey situation. It's very unfortunate for the club.
And what they've done is they've lost all control of this in the media. They've lost all control.
But when they were winning, Dewey was probably their best player.
Honestly, if he hadn't got injured pre -origin, I think he'd probably make the Blues.I think he gets it.
Alright, one of those what's this space scenarios. So what have we solved?Nothing.
Nothing's been solved. It's ten minutes, I'm never going to get back.
If you're coaching, do you pick him this week just to take the noise away?If I'm coaching...Do you just pick him to take the noise away or what?
If I was coaching, he'd have played reserve grade on the weekend.Simple as that.He wouldn't have stood down.He wouldn't have had the weekend off.But I don't know that that's the conversation that took place.I don't know what's happened there.
