Henry Nowak bodycam footage sparks FURY at police response

Some breaking news and updates in this video regarding the horrific murder of Henry Novak. So I'll come to some of those in a moment. But all of this follows huge pressure upon Hampshire Police Force to release the body cam video footage, including that which extended to Elon Musk threatening to fund a lawsuit against them.

0:18

And so after all that, they have now released that body cam footage and it is as terrible as people described it.I will not play it on this video for you.You can find it on other news channels although the ones that I've seen have even done freeze frames rather than the whole video just from what I've seen so far.You can find it but I'd like to talk about some things generally in this video.

0:42

Now it is right to say that this horrific murder of Henry Novak has quite rightly angered people across the country and from what I can see online That includes and extends to many people within the Sikh community itself who are clearly appalled by what happened and understandably concerned that their entire community and their faith has been dragged into disrepute by the actions of essentially one murderer. Now that is one of the really important points here, because this is not a case about blaming Sikhs. It is not a case about condemning a community.Absolutely far from it.Rather it is a case that has brought into very crystal clear clarity and forced serious questions into being.into the open.

1:30

They are questions about knife crime, questions about the religious exemptions for carrying bladed articles, you know, questions whether the law is clear in that regard, and most importantly, questions about how the police responded and why, perhaps most seriously, questions about whether Henry Novak was failed by the very people who should have protected him, and instead believing the lies of his killer, accusing him of being wrong.and instead of helping him they handcuffed him while he was lying on the floor and again the details are too horrific to go into in great detail here but this is the part that many people cannot get past because if a false allegation can apparently distort the response of the police so badly that the real victim is not immediately treated as the person in need of urgent assistance, life -saving assistance, although I will caveat and say that the reports say that their assistance would not have helped him survive, as in the way they described it is that the injuries were not survivable.

2:41

I don't fully accept that argument, but that is what's been said, so I am saying that to be fair here.but instead of treating him with potentially life -saving treatment, they handcuffed him, and they left him on the floor, and they even dragged him around, and so on.

2:56

And with all of that, instead of actually helping him, something has gone very seriously wrong. Now again, and as always, I'll make a balancing statement here, and that is that police officers very often have to make difficult decisions very quickly, based on incomplete information, conflicting accounts, and very often, The scene may be confused, it may be frantic, it may be unclear, and all of those sort of things. In these situations, they may not have immediately understood what had happened. But in this case, in my view, it was absolutely clear.Henry was telling them again and again that he'd been stabbed and that he couldn't breathe. And instead of helping him, they didn't believe him.

3:41

They ignored him. They handcuffed him.And then sadly, he died of those injuries. And so now the public has been left with a deeply disturbing impression that a false allegation of racism wasover the reality of the victim quite literally in front of the police. That is why this case is so very important.

4:03

It is not just about the horrific murder and it is not just about carrying a knife. It is about the false allegations and the police response following those false allegations all revealed by the body -worn footage.and this means that it is about whether the law and the policing in this country are still capable of dealing with dangerous situations plainly, fairly and without being distracted by the wrong.issues.So now one or two questions have popped up and one or two people misunderstanding things very slightly with great respect. So he's been sentenced to life imprisonment which is the only sentence available for a conviction of murder with a minimum term of 21 years.

4:45

Now some people have wrongly speculated in two different ways. One that he will be out of prison in half of that time which is not true because it is a minimum term of 21 years and some others have speculated that he'll be immediately released upon the expiry of 21 years in custody, which is also not at least necessarily true.Because the minimum term of 21 years is precisely that.He will serve a minimum of 21 years before being considered for release. And that answers the second point. He's not automatically released.

5:19

He's potentially considered for release after a minimum serve of 21 years. And even then, if he's released, because it is a life sentence, he will be on license for the rest of his life.Meaning he can be recalled to prison for the rest of his life for any other offense thereafter, or in breach of any of the terms imposed upon him on release. So if he were to be released after 21 years there would be license forwith which he must abide and if he fails to comply with those licensing conditions he will likely be recalled back to prison for an indefinite term, however long they say is necessary.

6:02

Vikram's mother, Kiran Kaur, was also found guilty of assisting an offender after the killing and she will be sentenced, I understand, on the 17th of July because she removed the weapon from the scene and that was widely reported as well. And I've now also seen additional reporting that his father and his brother have had charges authorised by the CPS for possession of offensive weapons.Several reports now, although I can't find it from the CPS just yet, report that both the father and the brother face similar charges to possession of an offensive weapon.in a private place. That is just at the time of recording. It may be confirmed very shortly and I can go into more detail then.

6:43

But I'm not going to speculate.I'm just presenting the reporting as I've read it thus far.But again this throws into debate the whole exemption of carrying a blade for religious purposes. Now I'll repeat what I said in a previous video in that the vast majority of Sikhs who carry these kirpans do so without issue. But that's not to say that it hasn't brought it up for wider debate.course it has.

7:08

There are polar opposite views.Either allow everybody to carry something for self -defense or allow nobody to carry any blade of any kind because they would otherwise be restricted as a bladed or pointed article under section 139 of the CJA.And of course comparisons have been drawn by us not even being able to carry any kind of pepper spray even or any kind of spray for the purposes of self -defense.I mean we cannot carry anything.for the purposes of self -defence, unless in the very, very narrow exception that you literally run to grab something because you are defending yourself and therefore it's safe.or in possession for the purposes of self -defense.

7:48

But generally it is not a good reason to have it for self -defense.So it has thrown this into wide discussion.Let me know politely and respectfully what you think in the comments please. Please don't forget to subscribe to the channel that does help the channel grow and as always thank you for watching.
