Hermitcraft 11: Episode 15 - actually doing it

Welcome back to Hammoncraft season 11. It is my favorite time of day on the server. The sun is setting just behind my windmill here. Everything is looking wonderful. The pond I built in the previous Hammoncraft episode is looking absolutely adorable. This guy is suffering, but that's fine. I was reading through the comments on the previous episode

and somebody mentioned that this one doesn't have any fish in it. And yet you're totally right. I spent so much time thinking about how I could add life to the build that I forgot to actually add life to the build. It's time to put some fish in buckets. Is this really how big Gems Castle is going to be? Are you joking me? I also- I saw that down in the comment section!

Nah, you're lying. You are lying. To be honest, I don't even want to talk about scale. It has been a very long time since I've done this.

Am I doing it wrong? What?

Surely, surely, come on! Get in my bucket! Oh, oh, oh, OK. Oh, so the bucket needs to be filled. Ah, that makes a lot more sense. OK, well, you know, this is a fairly new feature, so it's no surprise

I don't know how to do it yet. This should do the trick I reckon right now if I just right-click here Yep, we have got ourselves a handful of fish and I'm hoping that these don't despawn I imagine they don't there goes my full inventory of fish. Is that enough? They all seem to be sticking in one place. Well, no, I would say that looks good. It's not overwhelming. I'm now going to make it so that some of my bamboo is bushy But I'm going to leave some of it non bushy for variety like these ones here a sort of imitating sugarcane So I'm going to leave them without the bushes, but I think these ones should have bushy tops

So I'll allow them to grow into the string and with that final detail I think our pond is officially done and on the topic of things being done, you should be done with your comment calling me stupid for saying that Fish in Buckets is a new feature, although the fact that it's been in the game for over 5 years now is mildly terrifying. What am I building in today's Hermitcraft episode? Well, of course, I think my plan of action is to build up some apartments, but before I get to work on those, I think I'm going to start work on some pathways. My base, and in fact all of my bases, sort of struggle with

like human movement. You know, like I build all these things and I don't really think about how someone would actually walk around the place and this is mainly due to the fact that I don't walk around the place, I travel entirely with the Elytra. So actually thinking about the way someone would traverse this landscape just doesn't doesn't really come into my head and I want it to come into my head. So I think I'm going to work on putting in a little path network through here that makes it look a tiny bit more human.

There's like little elements of it, look there's like an area of standing here and there's like a little pathway up there but nothing connects any of. And actually there's currently no way for me to get into my workshop or even into my base. And I think adding those path elements will really take us a lot further in making this place feel alive and feel lived in. Two adjectives that I am very focused on this season.

I mean, just Googling to make sure that I got adjective correct. Yes. It's now time to fly around and steal some ideas. I absolutely love the way that Exuma has done his paths He has been a massive inspiration for me this season and these are wonderful Gar has been consistent pathspiration for me for basically ever since he joined server

This is awesome. And these paths make me very happy I think the big thing here is the transition from path edge into landscape Keralis has got some beautiful paths inside of his base, but he also has Probably one of the coolest things look at this Look at this. Also, I was joking when I said steal earlier, but I legitimately might steal this carriage here This thing's beautiful, right? But you know, I was flying past Folsers base and I saw this bridge and I was like, that's a real nice bridge But then I saw this. Scar, buddy, you have outdone yourself on this one. Look at the entrance! So firstly, we've got the unsupported bottom block and then we've really broken with convention and we've gone for a double block staircase. Oh, Grian has a pretty nice path as well. Right, that's enough inspiration gathering for one day. Let's get to work on building. But before I do that, I just want to say I recently went out for a walk with Tommy in

it, which was definitely an experience. It was it was an experience. I'll put a link to it down in the description and also at the end of the video so once you finish watching this you can give it a watch. I would highly recommend it. Everyone involved is so incredibly talented, it's very well made, and then Tommy is... he's Tommy. I am embarrassed to tell you how long this has taken me. I think this is cool. I think this is good. I think the areas between my wheat fields need to have no moss next to them and then as I make my way around,

there'll be a little transition from the path into the mossiness using mossy cobblestone. And I think in terms of path locations, there's going to be one going through to here. There's going to be one wrapping round and connecting up with this path over here.

So this will all be paved. I guess it will then make its way around here with some extension. And then, oh yeah, this is where things don't work in my head. Maybe down here, like a little staircase going down,

connecting to there. Then what about the start of this path? Like this path just starts in the middle of somewhere. So I guess I need to take this out and then connect this up. And then I still need to connect to my house. Give me a second. I just need to save Pearl.

Dude, that was so close.

I just realized I need to relog. I swear, as a professional Minecrafter, I am by far the worst on the planet. Why can I not connect? Wait, what? Do I still not have microphone permissions? Why don't I have microphone provisions? My goodness! There he is! I can hear him! I am so surprised you came through with parrots like that completely baffles me. Yeah I found out you can technically

tp with parrots if as long as they're on your shoulders they'll come with you. That's so funny. So, I'm getting my two new parrots for that tree, and I had to go to a jungle that's about 30,000 blocks away. So, thank you for saving me with that. I was very close to lighting a portal to save that location, and you got me just before I went to click the phone and steal.

Yeah, I'm glad it worked. These things are so satisfying, and it happens so fast exactly

Yeah, I mean I had to catch some fish from my pond today and I... It took me a long time to work out how to catch fish for the bucket.

Well, yeah because I was doing it with an empty bucket so I was just draining the ocean.

You have to put a fish in water, it's gonna suffocate.

No, no, no, but I just mean like, I was trying to pick up the fish, but then I was doing it with an empty bucket.

You just kept clicking the ocean instead of the fish.

Yeah, well I had like, I had 16 empty buckets, so I was just right clickingclicking just yet clearing out the ocean and not a single fish was being picked up. So that took me a while.

16? Is that for your polluted lake that you've been making?

Yeah, yeah. So now it now has fish in it. Although, where have they gone?

Well, you can't see them from this far away, right?

Okay. No, I feel like we're close enough that we should definitely... Wait, can we go? Yeah, because I can see a llama down there. We should definitely be able to see my fish. Oh, they are there. They are there.

See? We just weren't quite close enough.

So the fish distance is different from the llama distance. There you go. I don't know. I think it was a wandering trader. I think he was actually trying to get to us. He seems to have actually gotten... Wait, where is he going? Oh, right. He's in the chicken farm.

Has he walked off? He's in the chicken farm. What? I guess he wants some chicken. You got some cooked chicken for him? He's hungry.

Clearly. Well, this chicken farm totally broke as well. Everything in my base is not really functional to be honest with you, but at least my pond is looking okay. And your fans are functional. And my fans are functional. Some of my geese have stopped flapping, but for the most part they're still going. In fact, actually, you know, they're just gliding.

It's all right.

I think they're all back flapping. I don't really understand how that works. I don't understand how they can...

Back flapping? What is it like they have gone back to flapping? I thought you were trying to say they fly backwards or something. I'm like, that's quite how that works. What are the signs?

So, yeah, this is the one like questionable part of this build, which is like, I wanted to make it look like wheat had fallen off of this, but it's kind of hard. But then also somebody told me that if you store wheat next to water, the inside will mold and then it will like, it will heat up and catch fire. So actually, yeah, yeah, so this could be a hazard.

This could be a hazard down the line.

What are you doing, mate?

Okay, well there is a fire town nearby if it ever happens.

Yeah, that's true, that's true. And it's functional, and it's functional. And I would be teleported there immediately as well, so that's good.

I kind of have the shirt for it. You kind of matched in the colours. Yeah and I've and I've

picked up a lot of water this morning. It comes with a free set of goodies. So I could get that established for you and then you can do the fire training tower when I make it with Impulse.

Yeah, yeah, that would actually be awesome. What, is this actually an official thing and I get Netherite armor? I haven't had Netherite armor for like five years.

Do you have- what? You never get Netherite?

No, why would I?

You just melt them without a diamond? Yeah. I'm gonna get you a netherite gear after such a long time. Are you saying you haven't won a single piece of netherite gear since I joined Hammock Craft?

No, no, no, almost definitely not. I think I got it when it first got added. Look, I only used features like six years after they were added into the game, alright pal? That's the way I do my updates. So it's official, I think this looks significantly better.

Yes, this looks really cool. So now it's time to connect everything up. And I think I should do this in the form of a tiny little time lapse. And I have to say, when I first started this task, I didn't really think of it as being that serious. You know, it was something that I wanted to add in.

I thought it would make a meaningful difference, but I hadn't quite realised how big of a difference it actually would make to my base and how much thought actually needs to go into this because it really is fundamentally changing the way my base looks, especially around the front section. Adding in all of the dirt and all of the extra blocks around the wheat field has given that area a lot more weight and it has made it stand out much more from the landscape than I originally planned. And upon doing this, I realised, oh gosh, I actually have to put a little bit of work

now into some of the terraforming. I need to add in a little bit of foliage because it looks a little bit abrupt. So then I started adding in some of the bamboo stuff and some of the bits that I essentially learned from building up the pond. that's definitely improved things, but it's a huge change. Like this is, this is enormous. And it's something that I think I'm going to have to sit with for a little while because

I have some questions regarding paths that I didn't expect to come up. In short, I really, really like the way this has come together but I have one problem. I have absolutely no idea what to do with this. I don't know where to make this path go. Everything else makes sense. Everything else looks really really good. Look we've got paths going around, we've got paths going around here, paths going in there, paths cycling around here, we've got a path connecting up our bench, a little path connecting up our fishing area.

I think one thing this has done incredibly well is tie this to this. It now all feels really cohesive. I almost feel like we need a little cabin or something in this gap here. And then this whole area will feel incredibly dumb. But what has happened is I now feel like this is like the dividing line of the base like this just goes up here and

ends and Then this almost sits on his own little island Not really connected to the rest of things and this path doesn't really extend anywhere I mean, maybe I guess I could wrap it around the back and Then maybe connect it into our windmill out the back here. That could be the move, like come up like this and then and then go into a little doorway there. That actually could

could be quite good. But what on earth do I do here? Do I have the path go down like this and then maybe like a little entrance or a little something, a tiny little something down here? I do think continuing this terraforming and this sort of foliage around into this section will help the whole situation, but still. What do I do? I've stood around, I've thought for a while.

I think I have an idea. I am going to chop a section of this wheat field and actually wind the path around the front of this and bring it up into the side of this. And then we can also connect that into a path that's going around the back. It is now one hour later, and I have to say,

the view from the back of my base is now really quite cool. Like, I really like the way this is coming together. I think this looks nice. I think this gap looks a bit weird now. And I definitely have to chop some of this bamboo and of course add some of the bamboo and some of this sort of vibe

to all of these greenery bits around the edges. But if I make my way through the base, I now think it feels like it makes sense and feels like a place that you could actually walk around. And in terms of the angle from my standard viewpoints,

I think it looks better.

I do think it looks better. This still looks disjointed and messy. Ah, it honestly might just be that single moss block, like just removing that and chucking something in there and then getting rid of this overhang. Yes. Yeah, now that part actually looks like it's connected.

Okay, excellent. Right. Bamboo, flowers, leaves. It is now the next day. I actually stayed up really late doing all of that. This was like a proper labor of love.

You know, I fully disconnected my microphone from my desk, just put it off to the side, sat back and and fiddled around in Minecraft for hours. I wasn't even thinking about making a video. I was just I was just out there playing and this place looks so good. I forgot one piece of string, but I think now we finally reach the stage where this area looks connected to this area, which in turn connects it up to this area, which then brings it up into this area as well. It is all starting to feel like one big cohesive build, and it looks so much better when you're flying over the top of it.

Oh, I've also added a bunch of azalea trees all over this, and I think that just adds a tiny bit of extra to all of this terraforming here. I'm really, really happy with how this has come together.

I lost this horse forever ago. How did it get inside my house? I think it's time for me to face reality. I keep making jokes about finishing this place, or I guess not finishing this place. And that might make you think that I don't care about it.

The reality is I actually care about it a lot. Like this is probably the place I'm going to spend most of my time. I'm constantly going to be in my storage system. I want to have all sorts of different little rooms and little devices that I can use

for all the important bits that you do in a Minecraft world. And I really want to get this right. And the reality is when I want to get something right, I don't do it. But today, today is the day that I do do it. I've been spending a lot of time here lately, but I've been getting into the flow of it. My initial plan was to start from the ground up, but having built this area here, I really feel like I need to do something with this wall.

I might have actually just come up with something I could... oh yeah using armor stands I could actually turn these almost into like little shelving units. Again? You guys are here again? Oh gosh! I think I've trampled more wheat than they've trampled. The big question is, does this idea actually make any sense? I actually kind of think... That looks pretty cool. Once we get some items on these shelves and things sitting around, I actually think that'll look quite good. I am really, really struggling with how to make this edge work, how to make this go into the ceiling,

and how to cap off this area. I also don't have any of the resources that I need. I definitely don't have enough elytra for this adventure. Oh my goodness, I've also just realized that the mangrove forest isn't even out in this direction. I was thinking of Hermitcraft season 10.

Oh my goodness, I was counting on Pearl being able to teleport me home using the fire thing She's afk. I'm 15,000 blocks away. It is worth a try. Yes. This is excellent This is actually gonna work out. Oh my goodness That is that is so lucky because this has never happened to me before watch me see a mangrove forest now

Wait. No. Is your computer on fire? Am I actually catching fire? Am I actually about to catch fire? In real life? I mean, I don't have any hostile mob sounds on, so if it's a hostile mob, that's why I don't hear it.

I have my game sounds just overall turned down right now. So it's the fireflies. If it's a little like buzzing sound, a little bit of electricity. Yep, fireflies. It's really sweet when you just sit and listen to it. That sounds incredible. I've never noticed that before. That's what I get for never wearing

headphones. There you go. Have you actually successfully put out any fires yet?

I mean, yes, if you consider all the fires that Etho and Grian and Jim have started multiple

times. Okay. But have you actually, like, has there been a legitimate spontaneous fire that you have managed to put out? Yeah, look, the main problem with the game, let's just say that much.

And I'm sorry, in advance, you've signed up for these towers. You should probably look out for some certain eggs on the server. That's all I'm going to give you.

I kind of signed up to be a firefighter just so I could be like, I could wear cool uniforms and be in the calendars and stuff like that. You know, like, because that's like half the job. Sarah We're killers! Luke

I actually can't believe I just did that. And do not worry, I've replaced my pearl. Oh goodness gracious me! What have I done? Things are happening in this place. It is now sort of looking a little bit more like an actual thing.

I've just popped over to Xisuma Space to get a little bit of roofspiration and I would say this is a tiny bit Messier than I want for my build But I really really like the use of shelves and I do like the dangly bits something like this could do the trick I wanted to have stone it instead of deep slate because I want a slightly lighter roof than I've got on the floor I like this. I like this. I think this will work for all of the other sections. So now I've put all of them in and I'd say it looks pretty good. I've also

chucked this into the back wall, which I kind of like. This area is actually starting to feel quite finished. I mean, I think once I get this wall in place and start removing some of this rubbish, we actually might have the beginnings of a finished looking build. Okay. I mean, I think this is good. One thing I actually hadn't anticipated is how much of an upgrade it is externally, like being able to see through this gap and actually see a finished build has made a huge difference. So that's quite exciting. So now it's time

to move on to the other side of the room and I actually think for this half I want it to be made out of more stony stuff and kind of have arches So this side looks like it's all propped up by wood this I want to look like it's being held up by Arches of stone. Oh, okay. We're gonna have to work out something to do in this corner That means I don't have to build up into this area. Oh boy, I've accidentally created that illusion. Now imagine that this is actually a block.

Imagine that it's a block. And now it hurts your brain. Oh, oh, I don't like it. Oh, that's horrible. Oh, that's so weird. Already, I think this is kind of cool.

I mean, I'm not sure how I feel about this edge But equally there's enough going on that it's not a big deal And one thing that I really like is it feels extremely separate from this area over here, which is cool Oh my I can see XB craft its name. I can see him. I'm not entirely sure what he's doing. Hello? I was trying to figure out how to get down to where you were, that's what I was doing. I mean there's not really an official way to be honest with you. I am a big fan of your your visor and your animated blinking eyes that is extremely

cool. I did a thing a couple weeks ago where I had some redstone people come by and check out some redstone I did kind of off the cuff during a stream. And then usually I'll log in and I'm like, oh, Mumbo's on and then I'll start heading

over and boop, Mumbo's gone.

No, I just, I swear I'm incapable at the minute of staying focused on a single task for more than about 15 minutes at a time. It's honestly causing me physical pain, and I mean this with all seriousness, it's not good. I'm not doing well when it comes to... I swear, I don't know what's happened to my brain in this year, it has never been more scrambled, and I'm actually incapable of focusing on a

single thing it's unbelievable I feel like if somebody came out with like a company where you could rent actual adults that would be good

they would make bank yeah if I could deliveroo like or like uber eats or something like that like if they like they could just deliver a person that I suppose is an employee. I can employ someone.

We've discovered employment. You take care of the taxes. You fill up the car, get the oil change. I'm fine. Don't do all that. I'll be here. That's good.

That's called a personal assistant. I think they exist. I think, I think, none of us, none of us obviously are willing to pay for them, which is totally fine and thus, we're stuck in this situation. And also, I do feel like, like, I would still put off giving tasks to the personal assistant. Because that's too much adulting, delegating.

Yeah, I'd have to delegate the task. Thus I'd have to think about what tasks need to be done, and that's too much. And thus...

Yeah, that's fair satisfying. Oh, oh.

I built it on stream just like as a, I need, I want these farms. Let's get to it.

That's a bold move. It's always a pleasure seeing XP crafted. What do I do here? What do I do here? What do I do here? Do I just have it so that there's like a pillar slightly further over in this direction? Does this sort of make sense I mean if the height was correct Yeah, I actually think this could work because if I have this again another five blocks further over so that would be over here

That will then cap off the room. Gosh. This roof really does come lower than I expected I mean what is actually here? Ah, yeah. Yeah, that definitely isn't going to work Gosh, we might be able to just about get away with a three wide area, which would make it more of a corridor But that that kind of looks cool actually because if we have a door at the end here, that will look good. Yes Yeah, I am liking this as the beginnings of a room. In terms of points of interest,

I feel like there should be something here. And then in the middle here, there's going to be a big table and that's where our robots are going to be worked on by me. So for anyone who can't remember a little bit of storyline about my base, obviously up at the top here, we've got the area that the robots are.

I live down here and I'm completely self-sustaining in my little area But occasionally robots will fall out of the town as is evidenced by this Unfortunate chap and I will generally pick them up do a little bit of repair work and put them to work in My base area which actually makes me think maybe I should have a couple sort of banged up repaired ones

Working in the fields and then maybe even some copper columns as well actually working in the fields

Like that's that's that's totally possible. Oh and that would really bring the base to life a little bit as well I can put them on like predefined paths using techniques like the ones that Xisuma has been doing I am absolutely getting ahead of myself there going Going through your chest monster, holding a spear is incredibly satisfying. Hello, industrial district. I'm actually here for these. I'm curious about what floor color I want to go for. I'm thinking a combination of spruce and dark wood.

I don't really have a rhyme or reason for where these log blocks are going and where I'm having the planks and where the spruce is going to go but I think some gradient should exist. Ew. No. No. No. Maybe? Actually maybe? Like if there was a table in this dark spot, maybe. I actually don't hate it. No, I actually don't hate it at I actually don't hate it at all I actually think it looks quite cool I think if I also throw around like a handful of

little pressure plates and things bits and pieces that sort of adds a little bit of depth to the floor yes yes yes if someone could please tell me why this kind of works I would love to know. I've been playing around with ceiling ideas too and I really really like this. I kind of wasn't planning on doing any kind of gradient up at the top here. It's really subtle, I've really tried to space out quite a lot. But I think it looks good.

I think it looks really really nice. Because I basically have no vertical height to play with here I can't go a single block higher this actually does add a little bit of depth and a little bit of feeling of texture which I think is perfect so this now goes the full way across our roof maybe this could be the walls so we have that on all of these Not entirely sure on the back wall just yet. I kind of want to have a bunch of bookshelves and a sort of library,

but that's maybe because I also want that in real life. This looks so cool, as does this. I think once we get a handful of bits and pieces on these shelves, it will look great. This wall is a little bit more flush, so I thought I would go with this. I think it works. This one should be inset like this one. I don't know why I specifically really like this one, but I specifically really like this one.

What on earth do I do here though? This, I do this. That looks really cool. I really, really like that. I think it's interesting. It adds a little bit of ambient noise,

which I personally enjoy. It looks especially cool from back here. I am a very big fan, so now let's get the back wall done. Wow, I'm already a huge fan of this. I think a tiny bit of texture just on this one here. There, yeah, that's good. Look how cool this looks.

I just need to get some books. A lot of books, oh my goodness, a lot of books. Oh my goodness, six stacks of books. That's a stack of bookshelves. Well, I guess I don't need to fill every slot. This is going to be a sparse library.

Which is good, because I'm quite dense and anti-intellectual. Smart people who read scare me. is based trading with some villagers to gather up all of the books and this is actually an Extremely good and very inspiring interior. What have we got here? Well firstly shelves. I always forget about shelves These are awesome. I think I'm going to make some modifications I love the use of the pots, although that's probably a little bit more Roman feeling. I do like the candles though I especially really like all of the chain stuff That's probably a little bit more Roman feeling. I do like the candles though. I

Especially really like all of the chain stuff, you know I'm a big grindstone guy and I do I like these hooks by the door and I like this sort of Almost potion looking thing. I don't know when I did the skillet your noises But I don't think they're ever going to get old to me as I I now have a bunch of bookshelves, I wonder, can I play around with potentially filling some of these areas with regular bookshelves? Does that look weird? This edge looks weird, so I don't think it can have an edge.

I think that's one thing that's for certain. This this needs to have an edge. But if I start filling out the books around the bookshelves almost like their own sort of gradient does this work I think that does work you know like you start to lose which ones are regular bookshelves and which ones are the newer ones. I'm going to say something potentially weird. I actually think

I preferred the way this looked before I started putting books into it. It will be interesting to see once it's fully done, but I just want that known. I think I preferred it Before there were books. Okay. Now that there are books in it like all the way across. I do think it's better I do think it's better But still I can't have a soft spot for the empty one. What I will say is though

Regardless of that this place is looking great What a transformation what a transformation we've had here. I actually got started on the workshop. We've got a fantastic foundation to build from here. I cannot wait to add in all of the details and I cannot wait to connect it up to the house. Let's not forget we have also built some incredible stuff all around the base area here and completely changed the way that this place looks.
