I Built a Team Without a Mega Evolution in Pokemon Champions

With mega evolutions coming back, many teams are defined by their mega, so I thought it might be fun to try a challenge where I didn't use any mega evolution.But as champions have been out for a couple weeks now, I realized that this challenge might not be as difficult as I initially intended.There's so many strong Pokemon right now, like Basculesion, Sneaselurr, King Gambit, Incineroar, Garchomp, like already those five Pokemon would probably be enough to just complete this challenge without too much trouble.And I don't think my audience is exactly begging for watching more Sneaselurr, King Gambit, Basculesion, Incineroar.So to make this challenge more interesting, I'm not allowing myself to use any of the top 10 most used Pokemon.For reference, the game shows you what the top 10 most used Pokemon are, so we won't be using Sneaselurr, Garchomp, Incineroar, King Gambit, Sinisear, Basculesion, Aerodactyl, Charizard, Rotom, Milotic, or any Mega Evolution.

So the first Pokemon in usage that we can use is Pelipper.I'm gonna go try and build a team now.Okay, here's what I came up with.I decided to build a team around the Trick Room strategy.I don't want to fully commit to it without a Mega Evolution available, but I do think that Trick Room can be strong because it allows slow Pokemon to move before fast ones, and many of the most popular Pokemon and the best Mega Evolutions are pretty fast.Friggereff is the premier Trick Room setter right now because its ability Armor Tail blocks the effects of all priority moves, which are typically really good against Trick Room.

I'll train my Friggereff entirely in its bulk, using the Citrus Berry to hopefully keep it alive longer, but I'll do something a little bit sneaky and give it Nasty Plot instead of Protect or Helping Hand so that if people try to stall out the Trick Room, I can take advantage of that and make myself stronger.The next Pokemon I'll be adding is Torkoal.Torkoal not only sets the sun up, which gives me tools against other weather teams, but it also does absurd damage with its move, Eruption, which is like one of the strongest moves in the entire game, but gets weaker the lower Torkoal's health gets.Firgraf and Torkoal are both Pokemon that you've probably seen on teams before, but the third Pokemon I think will surprise you.It's Scovillain.Now, of course, I used Scovillain to get rank one in the world, but the important thing is that that was Mega Scovillain.

But I think that this Pokemon has actually been really overlooked.It's a fire type Pokemon that gets faster inside sun, which also boosts its fire type power.With Overheat, it will do ridiculous damage.And it can also support its team with Rage Powder, which forces opponents to target it instead of its partner.So I can use Scovillain and Torkoal together to do huge damage in the Sun.My Torkoal also is Helping Hand, which can make Scovillain even stronger.

Or I can do Scovillain plus Frigareph and go for Rage Powder and Trick Room, sacrifice Scovillain thanks to its poor bulk, send out Torkoal with full HP and full Trick Room turns, and start spamming Eruption.As I said, Scovillain is poor bulk, so we'll give it the Focus Sash item to help keep it alive.And unlike Mega Scovillain, there's not really much point using Leech Seed, so instead we'll use Leaf Storm here for maximum damage.We need one more Pokemon to complete the Trick Room core, and it should ideally be a Pokemon with Fake Out to help us get Trick Room up.I've been using this weird Kangaskhan set, and I'm going to do it again here.This is Silk Scarf to attack Kangaskhan with Fake Out, Last Resort, and that's it.

The general idea is that Kangaskhan gets Scrappy, which not only makes it immune to Intimidate, but also lets it hit Ghost -type Pokemon.Fake Out stops its target from moving while you set Trick Room up, and because Frigga Raph is so bulky, this is like nearly a guaranteed Trick Room most of the time.And then Last Resort is this super powerful move that is basically almost as strong as Giga Impact or Hyper Beam, but the catch is you can only use it once you've clicked every other move that your Pokemon learns.Fake Out, set Trick Room up, and now you have Kangaskhan who is actually able to use Last Resort because it clicked all of its other moves because it only had one other move, and you can't Intimidate it, and you can't just switch into Ghost -type Pokemon to get around it.I've been loving this set.I don't know if it would be good in like actual tournament play, but I don't know.

I'm really enjoying it, even though it's silly.So I wanted to use it here, especially because it fits with what we already have.OK, two Pokemon left, and we probably want a fast mode because our trick room mode, like it's not that fleshed out.My initial thought was to lean more into trick room, by the way, like I used Mimikyu and Tyranitar, but it just didn't end up feeling super good, especially against Pokemon like Mega Floette and Mega Charizard, who could do tons of damage.And we're also pretty bulky.So I want a Pokemon that's good into both Floette and Charizard.

And the Pokemon I'm going with is Glamora.Viscal Mora is holding the Choice Scarf item, which allows it to outspeed many of the top threats in the current format.Sludge Bomb and Power Gem are its strongest moves in Evacuation.I can use Earth Power to hit problematic steel types like Aegislash and King Gambit, who would be a problem for my typing otherwise, and as the last move I'll use Acid Spray.Acid Spray is pretty weak, but it cuts the special defense of whatever it hits in half, and this combos not only with Scovillan and Friggirath and Torkoal in theory, but more importantly with our final Pokemon, Dragapult.Dragapult is another Pokemon that I actually haven't used yet, but it is the fastest Pokemon that isn't a Mega Evolution or a Pokemon with some kind of external speed boost in the format.

Here, I'll be using Special Dragapult, with Shadow Ball, Draco Meteor, and Flamethrower.Shadow Ball and Draco Meteor match your type, so they're stronger, and Flamethrower gets powered up by the sun and gives me a way of hitting King Gambit.This Dragapult has the Clear Body ability, which means that opponents can't lower its stats with moves like Icy Wind or abilities like Intimidate, And while this normally isn't super good on Special Dragapult because, like, you don't care about Intimidate, the reason why I'm using it here is because the held item is White Herb.Whiter will reset your stats if they're ever lowered.The idea is basically your opponent can't lower your stats, so your Whiter will never get wasted when you don't want it to because your opponent, you know, switched in Incineroar.And this allows you to use Draco Meteor, drop your special attack, do a ton of damage, and then reset your special attack back to neutral so you can do it again next turn.

Leading Dragapult and Glamora will hopefully give me offensive pressure right from the beginning of the battle.And the goal is basically to do a ton of damage early and then either win with Trick Room or maybe with Sun plus Skull Villain in the back.Anyway, that's just the theory.We will have to see how it works in practice.If you'd like to see more challenges like this one, make sure you subscribe.We take data from how people subscribe on different videos to determine which videos we make more of.

Hello everybody.Here's the team that I will be using today to attempt this challenge.A lot harder to build around than I initially expected.but I guess that's the point of the challenge.Here are the stats of the Pokemon, if you were curious what they are.Boom, my big head.

Um, cool.But with that being said, I mean, nothing else to do here except jump, jump on the ladder and play some games.I am very high up the ladder at this point.I think almost top 10.So attempting this kind of challenge while this top, like near the top of the ladder seems bullish to say the least.I'm 15th overall.

I do think this team is like not, like, I think there are really strong elements of this team.It's just, I do think it's a little bit more matchup dependent than some of my other teams, but I mean, I, ideally, I should have tools for everything, but yeah, okay, here we go.We're playing against somebody.So, okay, this is a team with Mega Floette, which is a real problem, plus Talonflame, plus Garchomp.So I would say that this is a pretty spooky matchup.My inclination is to do, like, Kangaskhan plus Frigg here with Horgle in the back for sure.

This is kind of our main mode.The question is, who should the last Pokemon be?I think not Dragapult because of the Floette.It's one of these two.I'm inclined to do Scovillain because it can hit four of these Pokemon really hard, and even Garchomp it hits okay, like it was okay with, and the main weakness of Scovillain is the weakness to Talonflame, but I feel like Talonflame's not that bulky, so hopefully I can get through it.Garchomp is a big threat with these Pokemon, but I just have to do my best, I think.

Seven win streak, I, okay, Garchomp, Talonflame is all right, although do you think it has Haunt?Because that would just ruin my game immediately.I have to fake out, even if I think it's going for Quick Guard, I still have to do it.I'll play optimistically.They switch, okay, that's honestly fine.Here's King Gambit.

I think that means the Garchomp is bulky.Yeah, guaranteed to be bulky.Okay, cool.Here's Trick Room.Honestly, perfect turn one.Could not have gone any better.

Love this.Love that, like, yeah, love wins.Let's go Last Resort into Garchomp.The biggest threat to us is this Garchomp.And then, the thing is, it's not in Last Resort range, so I'll go for Hyper Voice for a little chip.I think I have to Hyper Voice here because I don't love doing it, but my thought process is that

they currently have double Stomping Tantrum.Okay.I wanted to, I wanted to make a read here.It's okay.I might get Will -O -Wisp, which would be bad.We get some damage on the Rotom, which is good.

Here's Hyper Voice.25 % actually feels like a lot for what I just used.Like, given that I have no special attack investment on Frigg.Here's Last Resort.You go for Will -O -Wisp and they connect.That's really bad for me.

Okay.So that's, I'm losing for sure.I mean, I haven't lost, but this is a bad position because my Shuriken turns are being wasted.I don't think that Last Resort plus Psychic will KO Garchomp here.So I'm gonna Last Resort the Garchomp, and I am gonna go for a Nasty Plot here.The thing is, Last Resort will still do good damage.

Here's Nasty Plot, so I'm now plus two.The goal is really just to put everything in range.With Scovillain in the back, this isn't as over as it looks.Although, the fact that I didn't damage the Kangaskhan is kind of bad.81 down to 47.Let's see if there's Citrus.

It's totally feasible that there could be Citrus here.Okay, that's what I expected.I'm now plus two, but I'm kind of playing this poorly.Here's Light Screen.This Rotom's being a huge problem for me.Yeah, I think I'm losing this.

Earthquake?Okay.They have Leftovers Rotom, they have Citrus Garchomp, they have Lightscreen up, taking a lot of damage.I think now I do want to double the Garchomp again.It's so obvious that it wants to protect.I'm gonna double the Garchomp.

I think it's, like, not bad.Unless they protect.Okay, cool.Here's Psychic.This should do, like, about 50.Okay.

Is that even in range?I think it is.Surely it is. 54, yeah.54 if not burnt.Okay, we got rid of one of the bigger threats to Torkoal.Um...

Let's see what they go into here.That's probably Floette in the back, right?The thing is I have all special attackers and a burned Pokemon and they had Hydro Pump.Oh God, that's not good.That's really not good.Okay.

I'm definitely losing this, but I haven't lost.And that's, that's important.The thing is that like, it looks like I'm up because I have like plus two Ferdoraft.The issue is that when the speed control goes down, which is going to be next turn, I'm just in massive trouble.Here's Floette.So here's the problem, folks.

I can double the Floette, which is, like, I can double either Pokemon here.I'm gonna Last Resort and Psychic the Rotom.I'm gonna call that they're going to protect Floette.I think they, okay.If they would've let me just double it, then I, yeah.Fairy Aura, is it protect?

Okay, I got the call correct.The question is, is he gonna KO?Plus two, here's Psychic.That might get it.Last Resort is really powerful.Rotom's too bulky.

The T -bolt, yeah, okay.I'm lost, actually.Like, not even being silly for once.Because I can never beat this Floette, I fear.Oh, and I thought I was gonna die there.I should have paid more attention.

Okay.There's nowhere to win because I didn't bring Glamora.If I had Glamora in the back over Scovillain, I think it was actually winnable.Okay, there is one way that I can see myself winning, which is that they go for Hydro Pump here.So I switch to Torkoal and I go for Trick Room.Like, basically, they're like, oh, he's not in Thunderbolt.

But I am in Thunderbolt range, right?Whatever, I'll go for it.Like, they can just Gleam and win the game.But maybe they're worried about, like, maybe they're worried about Glamora in the back.Oh yeah, bringing Scoville in here really boomed me.Yeah, okay, GG.

Maybe I can win him a crit.No, I can't win.I mean, I'll play it out.This was tough because I think I had the ability to win, but I made the wrong turn two call.There's Thunderbolt.Oh wait, I do have Helping Hand.

Hold on a second, I forgot I had Helping Hand.I don't really see how that helps me though.I was actually okay, because I forgot that I didn't run Heat Wave, instead I'm running Helping Hand.There's one turn of Protect, Protect, and then Helping Hand, Overheat.The issue is I can't, yeah, if I just had Glimora, I could lock into Sludge Bomb and win this game.Hey, Protect here.

It has 1 HP left.But look at this!Look at what I can do!Protectscovillain, and I do one point more of recoil damage, and now the sun ends!I do one point of recoil.The sun ends, and now I get to set it back up because I saved Kangaskhan as a sacrifice!

Torkoal comes back in!And you may be thinking, Wolf, how am I just going to Brave Bird you?Do you even survive that?And the answer is, I don't think so.But it doesn't matter because Govillain has one last parting gift here.Even though it's minus four and, uh, minus four and resisted and light screen is up, it can use Rage Powder because it still has one HP left.

Two one HP Pokemon are going to be the difference maker here.But Peppers with the Focus Sash, opponent's thinking about it.If they have Protect, they can't, they can't really still have five turns.There's no way.It's not even possible.Here's Rage Powder.

There's no item in the game that will, like, allow them to target where they want.Safety Goggles is not around.Here we go.Brave Bird comes out into Skull Villain.Skull Villain, another point of one HP recoil to Talonflame.The first one did, like, 43.

I can't even...I'm not even talking about it.I don't know what to say.

I am in genuine disbelief that I won this.I think this is one of the most shocking wins I've ever gotten.I like, I don't even, I don't even know.I don't even know.I don't even know.I was, I already gave up and I don't, I like rarely give up, but in my head I'd already given up.

This no mega team is currently, after that win, top 10.That one got me into the top 10.Well, this is as high as we're getting for sure.You know, I was like, oh, like if only I had Glamora, if only I had Glamora, but I think Scovillan made it, made it to point.Said, hey, it's a good thing I'm on the team.Trust me.

Okay.This, uh,one of the things that I was most worried about with this team, one of the things I was most worried about this team was Charizard.This team has a Charizard, that can't be good.

Okay, I think what I do is I do my trick room mode, like my force trick room mode up front, because inside trick room, the inside trick room Kangaskhan is really strong, except for the King Gambit who I'll deal with, hopefully.The real question here is, who's my last Pokemon?I'm worried about the King Gambit, right?I think I should bring Scovillain.Charizard can be a real problem.Let's bring Glimora.

I don't have good tools of getting around to King Gambit.It has to be Scovillain.It has to be Scovillain.

But, you know what?Okay, here's the thing.Ah, but are they gonna - Are they gonna - Are they gonna Mega Froslass this turn?

Because, okay, I'd like to switch in Torkoal here, right?But the problem is that with the way that the turn order works, if I switch in Torkoal, I'm kind of in trouble, right?So like, or I don't get the weather.So I think I Psychic and Last Resort Froslass, because it's just protected.They don't have a switch into this, right?How many Pokemon on their team can take this?

Zero.Okay, I'm gonna double it.Psychic Froslass, Last Resort Froslass, and say, this should get me a KO, right?Okay, they Mega.So next turn, I can bring in my Torquil.The reason I'm able to do this, by the way, is that I did train myself my Friggiruff to live a Kowtow Cleave.

That's actually specifically what it's trained for.Okay, and they're fast.So the one fear is if they were like Black Glasses or they got a Crypt, this should KO, right?A low kick by Kang, I'm not dying to that, but it will do a lot.And here is Last Resort.This should KO.

I'm pretty sure.Froslass is not that bulky.Great.Okay, so Mega down.That also means they don't have Mega Charizard, which is really good for me.It's not over, but that's a really good turn.

The question also is who do they go into here, right?Dragonite.Okay.I'd really like to get Torkoal in, but it's kind of easier said than done.I think Psychic Dragonite switched to Torkoal is acceptable, because they're probably a physical attacker, right?I do think they're more likely to go for Kowtow Cleave on this turn compared to anything else, and to Frig.

But again, I am trained to survive that, so yeah, it's probably okay.Okay, this is what I expected.Here's Protect.Let's see if they go for a Low Kick again, or if they go for Kowtow.I could have gone for Hyper Voice, but I felt like since Dragonite resists here, this is a better move.Hey, Kowtow, okay.

I live, because I'm so physically bulky.I do not know whether or not the Basculegion has Protect.I would like to double it, but I don't think I'm allowed to.So I'm going to go to eruption pool switch here.Basically, my thought process is that I want to get Fadeout active on the next turn, because I think they're going to protect, like in case they protect.Okay, they protect on Basculegion.

Okay, Basculegion is not only, it not only has Protect, but it's also slower than their Dragonite.

I have two potential ways that I can win this game, because I can go into Scovillain here, and I either can go for Rage Powder and Trick Room, which would twist the dimensions, but is really bad if they have a spread move.I don't think they have a spread move, that's my prediction.But are they going to be, oh, hang on, I'm out of time.I'm out of time, sorry.This isn't the right move.I ran out of time.

They might think I'm Mega Scovillain.They don't know that I don't have a Mega.But even still, I don't think this makes any sense for me.They protect Dragonite.Okay.Protect both, please.

Oh my God.Okay.Hang on a second.Tricker went up.He tried to scout for Mega Scovillain, but I was regular Scovillain.And they forfeit.

Okay.Let's go.Wow.I am very, very impressed.I'm really, really, yeah, really impressed that that was a win, because it looked pretty spooky.That Dragonite was doing damage.

Wait, we're actually, we're climbing, we've climbed quite high.2466, this is a new record for me.We're number eight.We should be here once it updates.That's really funny.Well, I guess we'll do one more.

We'll see what we can do with this team.Okay, let's see who we have here.That can't be good, that cannot be good.Okay, well, that's not good.

I mean, if there was ever a game for Dragapult Glamora, I think it's this one, but I don't have very high hopes.I just don't think the Dragapult Glamora mode is as fleshed out as I would like it to be.Normally, I would do Friggarath in the back, but against this team, I honestly think Scovilla might be better.I'm not gonna say it's unwinnable, but my God, does it look difficult.

The good thing is they can't break both Megas, and that is a good thing because Both my, both Megas are super good into my team.Okay, they lead Charizard, Garchomp.Honestly, out of everything they could have done, it's like not the worst, right?I mean, I'm obviously gonna Earth Power the Charizard, right?I have to make a play.You know what?

Basculesion brought down to Focus Ash.It survives, but it's not going to be surviving for long.Focus Ash activates, keeping Basculesion alive at one HP.But the next move is Dragapult after Scovillain's special attack falls.Dragobull comes out and launches a Shadow Ball into Basculegion.It's super effective, but it doesn't even matter because Basculegion only had one health left.

Basculegion goes down, and even though neither of my Pokemon on the field are especially good into Charizard, in the back I have Choice Scarf Glimora.And with Choice Scarf Glimora waiting in the wings, there's really very little hope for this Charizard.

You know what?I could win this game without losing a Pokemon, which is one of my dailies.This is also how I lose the game, but surely they're not gonna KO me.Switch to Glimora plus Shadow Ball, and they forfeit.

It's a perfect victory.My God, this was a perfect victory.a terrible matchup.I cannot emphasize enough how bad this matchup was, but Earth Power Flamethrower into Charizard in front of Garchomp turn one, kind of, kind of, oh, there's my Daily.I think this might've gotten us to top five on the ladder.I think I might be top five on the, in the entire world right now with no Mega, no top 10 Pokemon.
