I Can’t Believe Carney Is Doing This Just Before CUSMA Negotiations
Minister Robertson, look, I have, I think...
Carney gets a question he doesn't like.Welcome back to Moose on Loose, my name's David.Today we've got Mackenzie Gray from Global News questioning Carney about a hot mic moment from his press conference with Gregor Robertson a couple days ago. You've got to see how he answers this. We've got some other news with Saab and some aircraft purchases as well as LNG.Let's jump into this.
Starting this episode off, we've got CTV News posting this Canada to sign large scale LNG deal with Germany. So this deal here would be exporting LNG from KSI Lissoms from the west coast of British Columbia to Germany. So how are they going to transport this?I don't know.Through the Panama Canal, through the Northwest Passage, when there's no ice up there? We don't have an export terminal on the East Coast.
So Germany is going to buy our West Coast LNG.
And I'm extremely pleased to announce that the leading German energy utility, Securing Energy for Europe, or CEFE, has signed a new agreement to buy liquefied natural gas offtake from Salism's LNG.This marks a major milestone for this project as it advances towards its final investment decision, its construction and production.
That's right.This facility isn't even built yet.
Through this agreement, CEFE will purchase one million tons per annum of LNG for up to 20 years, beginning in the early 2030s.Less than a year ago, Canada made history as we shipped our first cargo of LNG to global markets.
So we have one facility right now, as he just mentioned, just got opened up last year. And then now there's this KSI Lissoms, which they're in the final stages of investment to build it.And then Germany would buy it from the west coast of Canada.Make this make sense. We've also got the Liberal government announcing today that they will be buying surveillance jets from Saab, which may have an unintended or intended side effect.
This morning, Prime Minister Mark Carney announced plans to expand and fortify thecountry's air defence.
I'm pleased to announce that Canada has entered into negotiations to procure Saab's airborne early warning and control aircraft.
Carney says the plane will be a key resource for the Canadian Armed Forces.in the Arctic. And the CBC's Daniel LeBlanc is on this story for us from Ottawa. He joins us now live. So, Daniel, what more can you tell us about what we've learned about this deal?
Yeah, so it's a major announcement that kind of fell out of the sky this morning. It was a bit of a surprise announcement. We'd started hearing rumours about it yesterday. It's a major procurement.Overall, Canada said it wanted to buy these early airborne, airborne early warnings aircraft made in Canada. So they're using a Global 6500 Bombardier jet the platform on which they install their radars.
So this was an election promise from the Liberals a year ago.But only a few weeks ago, the government was saying it was still analyzing its options for this contract. It's estimated at about $5 billion just for the Canadian planes that they want to buy.But Mr. Carney is saying this is an announcement for Saab to actually build aircraft in Canada for not only the domestic market, but also for NATO partners that might also want to buy this aircraft over time.3 ,000 jobs is what he said over 15 years, and Saab and Bombardier building about 40 of these aircraft over time.To me, it's a combination of a long courtship between Canada and Sweden, between Saab trying to sell its aircraft to the Canadian government.
They talked about selling Gripen fighter jets. This is an entirely different type of aircraft. They're slower, they're not attack, they're more like defensive aircraft to kind of see whether or not cruise missiles, drones are coming into Canada.
Yeah, so these are radar planes that will scanyou've got Nate Erskine -Smith stepping down, Carney's going to lose his majority government. With his number so high in the polls, Canadians uneducated about who Mark Carney is and what his agenda is, they don't realize they'll be paying a carbon tax, will be a carbon credit system that we'll all have to pay for if this guy keeps staying in power.Carney will likely want to lock in a majority, a big healthy majority government to roll out this net zero agenda unimpeded because you can see committees flip back the other way where he won't have control again.Moving ahead, we've got quite the story coming from this press conference a couple of days ago. There's a hot mic moment here that McKenzie in 25 election platform, the investments would double.
That's not what's happened.Parliamentary Budget Officer Annette Ryan, who Mark Carney chose, flagged the May 4 report that the promise was repeated in Budget 2025 last fall was spoke Gregory.Robertson wasn't speaking during this, this is what was caught on camera.
I mean, I think the headlines of what he's doing is enough. So I understand it.I will raise it.
So he said, it's stupid, there's an off -ramp, take it, and then talking about the headlines.I understand it, I'll raise it, we don't know what he's talking about here, but the quote is, this is stupid, you've got an off ramp, take it, saying it to Gregor Robertson. Now today, during a press conference, Mark Carney gets asked about this exact moment, look how bad this response is.Thank you.

Get started freeYeah, Prime Minister, I'm hoping you can clarify some remarks that you made after the scrum on Monday. When you were leaving the press conference, you spoke with Minister Robertson, and I want to read what you said out. What are you doing? This is stupid. You've got an off -ramp.Take it.
That to me sounds like you're talking about Daniel Smith and the Alberta referendum question.I was talking to Minister Robertson. Can you clarify what you were discussing at that point in time?Because the scrum was about what the Smith had done.
It was about Minister Robertson.Look, I have...I think...If I'm gonna I'm gonna take your question about the relationship with Canada and Alberta Canada and the federal government and and the provinces and we're we practice cooperative
All those things that he has in his Brookfield Global Transition Fund.capture all this stuff directly enriches him.Why don't these guys ask him this question?Have these reporters not looked into his Brookfield Global Transition Fund 1?This should be the question every single time at these press conferences.Prime Minister, your announcement today directly enriches your Brookfield Global Transition Fund 1.
Is what you're doing here unethical?Somebody ask him the question.
It's getting a carbon market that actually works that other provinces can be able to join so we can broaden out a national carbon market. That's what we're doing there. We're here That's right, a national carbon market.Oh boy, more taxes for Canadians.Talking about defence industrial strategy, the benefits of the announcement we just made around the negotiations led by Secretary of State for and President Guzman on the global eye and the fact that That will bring a third of the production of those aircraft to Canada, of the global production, a minimum of a third, to Canada, benefits for supply chains in Quebec and also across the country. That's what we're focused on and that's the thing.
My answer is my answer.Thank you.
My answer is my answer. So that was not about the Premier? He won't answer it.I wonder what Daniel Smith thinks about this.So I don't even know what's going on here.If you look in the comments, everyone's confused.
How does this bring in Gregor Robertson?Obviously, Gregor Robertson's housing numbers are bad.Mackenzie Gray thinks this is about Daniel Smith and separation.Let's have one more watch here.here.One thing this does expose is how Carney really talks, how he really feels being disingenuous to the media, as well as Canadians.
I mean, look at this question here from Judy Trinh.
Does the visit of China's foreign minister Wang Yi later this week pave the way for a visit by President Xi Jinping? And you said previously that there are guardrails in place in Canada against foreign interference, yet your government has not released publicly the RCMP MOU signed with Chinese police. Why is that?
Well, we don't make a habit.I'll answer the second part of the question first. We don't make a habit of releasing security documents with other governments for reasons of operational security. That is standard practice for this government.
Is this a standard off -ramp to not answer the question?
Previous governments as well.So I don't see a reason to change that in this circumstance. So thank you for that question. That's our policy and that's what we stay to.I look forward to the visit of China's foreign minister tomorrow.I will have a chance to meet with him.
It will be a valuable exchange of views and I appreciate his arrival.Thank you.
Doesn't want to answer the question again.Meanwhile, we've got Andy Lee posting this.states that the RCMP did not want to renew the agreement with the MPS, with China's Ministry of Public Security, after it expired. The RCMP did not want to do this. She's got it listed right here. And what does Carney do?
He has a secret MOU agreement with the Chinese police and our police forces and doesn't want to release it to the public.Something else interesting that's going on.We've got Melissa posting this.Canadians buying real estate in America is surging, as we see here from Realtor .com.This is from May 26.
So yesterday it shows Canadian share of international demand in Cape Coral, Florida, 71%, Naples, Florida, 70 .9%, Phoenix, 66%.You see all the numbers, 66, 58, 56%.And you can see the increase here, plus 9%, plus 8 .8, plus 6 .7.Canadians are buying real estate down in America. Are they fleeing Canada?Because on the flip side, I've seen numerous stories over the past week and a half, two weeks coming from both CTV, and I'll show you one here from CBC saying that Canadians traveling to America is down.

Get started freeCanadians are not going to America. Now is that true because Canadians don't want to go to America or Canadians are broke?Or is that a way to shape public opinion, stoke some more fear because clearly Carney doesn't want to get a deal here renegotiating Kuzma?
Elbows up movement seems to be still in full effect.New data shows even fewer Canadians are traveling to the United States than we thought.Researchers at the University of Toronto found the number of cross -border trips is much lower than figures reported by Statistics Canada.Much of the decrease is driven by President Trump's trade war and comments about making Canada the 51st state. The CBC's JP Tasker is following the story and joins us from Ottawa and these numbers are really quite something.Tell us more about them.
Yeah, cratering Canadian travel to the U .S.has been a well -documented theme of the last year.Of course, we've talked a lot about it.Many travelers are avoiding going to the States because of President Trump, his 51st state taunts and those industry -wrecking tariffs, frankly. And according to StatsCan data,
I can't hold my tongue. He says industry wrecking tariffs.Sure, fair statement. But what's also industry wrecking is the Liberals net zero agenda. It is destroying industries across Canada, oil and gas.We could be building jobs and pipelines, everything across the country, making ourselves rich.
They never say that stuff on here.Even with Daniel Smith and the MOU, I mean, that pipeline's not going anywhere.anywhere anytime soon and Carney's gonna have a 15 billion 20 billion dollar carbon capture facility that we have to pay for so he can get rich? Why?Nobody even questioning anything that he's doing in the mainstream media.
and they found that cross -border travel is down by actually 42%, nearly half, so stunning figures.Travel to some sun destinations, of course, where Canadians go to avoid that horrible winter weather that we sometimes had, have been particularly hammered, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.down 65%.So that's giving it the dubious title of the metro area with the steepest drop.Panama City, Florida down 60%, Yuma, Arizona down 62%, Orlando and Miami also down 58%.And what's interesting, Andrew, is that it's not just vacation spots.
You know, travel to high -tech financial industrial centers is also way down.Look at San Francisco. It's off about 56%.Flint, Michigan, a major auto center, it's off 55%.Grand Rapids, Michigan, another part of the Rust Belt, an important part of the car industry, it's plummeted 54 % over the last year.So areas that are hit hardest by Trump's tariffs also just happen to be parts of the US where travel is also also down dramatically.
really what's interesting is that researchers tell me it's a sign that business travel patterns are, you know, essentially fundamentally shifting.Trump has reordered North American trade. And we're starting to see that play out in the travel data as well now.
in Canada, we cannot import cream due to high tariffs.Does anyone know where we can find organic cream production in Canada?" replying here saying interesting Canada's top organic canned tomato soup bisque is made in the US yet Canadian processors can't compete because organic cream is so hard to source domestically and tariffs make imports prohibitive not exactly helping food innovation in Canada.Someone replied here with organic meadow and they said yeah we're waiting to hear back on whether they have excess supply so far all we've heard is there's no supply available because of supply management.Numerous people mentioning numerous companies and it's all the same thing supply management supply management There is no supply.Carney needs to make a trade deal and he needs to make it right now.
