Hi friends and welcome to my channel. My name is Emma and this is my abandoned general store that I am converting into the homestead of my dreams. So this video is gonna be in two parts. It's gonna be a little bit different. It's gonna be something that I haven't done in quite a while but I did do it last year around this time. I'm not going to spoil it for you, you just have to watch. But in the first half of this video I decided it was the perfect week to get the old antique safe out of the store so that I could actually finish the flooring in the back half of the building. We

0:40

started with the safe, my dad helped me, it was a whole ordeal and I knew that it was going to be. I'll just let you see how things turned out. Yeah pretty crazy the things that you have to do when you're renovating an old general store. So without further ado let's get into it but first cheers to my mom and cheers to all of your loved ones that you're missing as well. Cheers.

1:07

I spilled about half of this already.

1:14

Also, part of the reason why I'm kind of switching up the second half of this video, the work that I'm doing today, is because I think I might be coming down with something. I just don't have a lot of energy, but we're still gonna make it fun. So enjoy and let's get into day one.

1:38

I don't know all you do is start dragging it to the mat.

1:50

No, it's...

1:51

There.

2:18

Do you want more ice cream? So all of the wood around the safe is old wood and it's all rotted out. So I grabbed the strongest lumber that I could find, which is lumber that I bought for my joists and we decided to put it kind of under the safe in the direction that we would be dragging the safe in hopes that we could get the safe up over the joists that we'd already put down.

2:32

What if we wrap around the leg and then run the chain out around that way instead of over the top Okay there. Okay. I just go until I tell you to stop. Okay, so I get this pain situated.

3:19

I'm just going to let off the gas.

3:21

Yep, get a little bit. But if I start yelling go go go, that means it's falling. Go ahead. Jam forward about 5 or 6 feet and then stop.

3:54

Okay, well, okay. Alright, I'm letting off the brakes.

3:57

Alright.

4:02

Go go go go go go!

4:04

Whoa! Whoa! Go, go, go, go, go, go! Alright, it's down. Alright.

4:10

It landed on its side, so I think we're good. Alright, I'm coming. So the door is not on the ground, so that's good. It pretty much landed, but when it landed, it was like, the fall so that's good. It's pretty much like it was planted but when it went it was like the fall of it was great. Well it started to tip and I was like go go go because you know that was the goal was to get it to fall this way and I was

4:36

afraid if we didn't keep pulling it was gonna go that way but I can readjust that chain now. This is going to block it from coming up this way. Don't want that. Alright, just tense it up.

5:07

Just move forward slowly.

5:08

Go ahead.

5:09

The truck's not moving now.

5:10

Keep going?

5:11

Yep.

5:12

Just a little bit? Yeah.

5:14

Keep going.

5:15

You don't have any tension on it yet. Go ahead.

5:17

Alright, now you've got tension on it so just kind of go slow. Go ahead.

5:21

I think it's moving.

5:22

It's moving. any tension on it. Yeah, go ahead. All right, now you got tension on it so just kind of go slow. Go ahead. I think it's moving. It moved a little bit so it's good. Go ahead. Give it some gas.

5:38

All right, it's moving. Go ahead. Okay, just tell me when to stop.

5:43

All right. Hold on, hold on. Back up just a little. It pulled your just that. That's all it says. It's just not like that.

6:20

Alright, good. Let's go a little bit.

6:25

Is the front door okay?

6:27

Ah, yes, hang on.

6:29

No, it's good. If you've been following this channel, you know that I recently had the joist work done. And essentially what we hoped was that we could kind of quickly pull the safe up over on top of the joists, and then it would lay flat on top of the plywood over top of the joists. But what kind of kept happening was that the safe was just barreling through the joists and knocking them over like dominoes.

7:23

And I decided that I didn't want to keep doing that. So we recalibrated and we decided that because we had the safe in front of the window, we actually could potentially use dad's crane truck and pull it out through the window. So we decided to go that route. And here is how that ended up going. Yeah, I would definitely rather do that.

You want me to go around?

8:02

Okay.

8:07

Got it. All right. You want me to go around? Okay.

8:15

So you need to move the arm as I back up.

8:19

That's crazy.

8:20

Very slowly.

8:21

Okay, well we need to be able to talk to each other.

8:24

I'm watching that. So if you yell stop, I'm going to stop until you get that right spot when I'm watching

8:32

that.

8:33

Okay?

8:34

Okay.

8:35

Hold on, let me practice.

8:36

Okay, leave it right there. Okay, yeah.

9:10

Go ahead. Stop! But this is definitely going to be the best way. Well if it lifts it will.

9:13

Yeah, I think it will. It's lifting. really?

9:39

so far so good alright so move the back one close to the wheels and set it down.

9:50

And all of the looseness that we need to get that right is just gonna be right there. Wait you're you're just gonna try to pull it out the window like that Dad, oh my god. Okay. Okay. It's just adjusting I'm just gonna listen to myself for a minute. Yes. I am a rigger That's hooked you got the other one hooked? Yeah.

10:47

Oh that strap came off. Was that going?

10:51

How did we miss that?

10:55

Well it seems fine.

10:56

Well the other strap is fine. If this falls it's going to be a big false.

11:00

Yeah I know.

11:01

I'm scared. Yeah, I know. I'm scared. So somebody's got to tilt it.

11:23

All right, now if you can spin it, will it spin? Yep.

11:24

You need me to do that? No, I'm just going slow so it doesn't over spin.

11:28

Okay. Go ahead a little further.

11:30

Is it even right now?

11:33

I'm hitting the window.

11:36

I hope we can get it out. We can. I guess I can. But I had to brace up the back end of the truck. Which means what? When I move it off of the jack that it's on, I don't know what's gonna happen.

11:49

Oh gosh.

11:50

Oh it's caught on something there. Okay I gotta come to you a little bit. Okay. I got caught on something there. Okay, I gotta come to you a little bit. Okay. Ugh.

12:17

You're hitting the window, so, no. Ugh. I want to take a quick moment to say thank you to InnoCraft for sending over their 140,000 BTU kerosene heater. It is starting to get cold, winter's here, and truly the timing could not have been better. Winters here I would say are average, but I am not built for the cold. That is why this InnoCraft kerosene heater has been an absolute lifesaver. It is capable of effectively heating spaces up to 3,125 square feet,

13:05

which for me would cover an entire floor of my homestead, which means I can be warm and I no longer have to supper like I did all last winter. In fact, my dad does have a similar kerosene heater and last year I did have to borrow it and it was the only way that I survived the winter.

13:22

Now I have my own. I also had to use his heater just a couple weeks ago to help the paint cure outside because it had gotten so cold. So needless to say these heaters are extremely useful if you are working in the winter. This one also has rear swivel wheels so it's super easy to move around in a heartbeat. You can also set the thermostat anywhere between 23 and 99 degrees Fahrenheit

13:45

and it automatically maintains the temperature which means that I don't have to waste fuel or babysit it. It is CSA certified for safe use and includes safety features like overheat protection, auto shutoff at 239 degrees Fahrenheit, and reliable wiring and fuel systems so you can have peace of mind while you're working which is very important. It also runs on kerosene, diesel, or fuel oil and the 9.5 gallon tank allows it to run for up to nine hours. So if you are working in large spaces throughout the winter and you need real heating I have linked

this EnoCraft kerosene heater in the description for you below. And thank you so much to InnoCraft for literally saving my winter and genuinely keeping this renovation alive through the winter because I could not have done it without real heat. Now let's get back to the renovation.

14:39

Oh, geez.

14:51

Okay, it's off the brick I think and it's fine. Go ahead. Is that clear?

14:56

A little bit more.

15:00

I'm going. Okay. I'm going okay Oh, it's caught on a cable, but the cable is probably just gonna rip yeah, you're actually clear you're clear. Yep What a glorious sight. Cool. Good? Yeah. I didn't sink it, right?

15:46

Well, I've got it center good now. Okay, welcome to day two. Today we are going to be digging for bottles. Here's why. I have been working on getting the septic permit. I had the septic lady come and do the perk test. I have had my surveyor working on a survey of the land

16:34

so that the septic lady can draw my septic system because it's an alternative septic system and you have to draw a plan for it. And as soon as that's done, I have to get the land clearing guy to come over and clear the entire back of my property and in the back of the property there are a ton of bottles

16:54

there are actually mounds where they used to just throw old trash essentially that have beautiful antique glass bottles back there I wanted to just spend one more day searching, digging, looking for anything really cool that I can find, special that I can find back there before he comes and clears the land

17:13

because basically everything's gonna be crushed at that point. He's gonna come in and basically plow the whole back of the property. I wanted to just see if I can salvage a few more things before that happens.

17:24

And I think it will be really fun to see what we can find because I've already found some really cool things. So without further ado, let me get my little trowel and we will go to the back of the property. So this mound that I'm on right now is a spot where I have already found a bunch of bottles.

17:38

I wanted to just keep digging this mound because I have a feeling that there are more gems under here. Let's see what we find. I think these are a bunch of bottle caps that I'm finding. You know it's kind of crazy that no matter how much I dig back here I'll never find everything that's back here. Like there will always be treasures on this property. Whenever I put a garden back here or courtyard underneath it all, there's always going to be antiques and that's a crazy thought.

18:13

We're doing no gloves. I'm about to get really, really, really dirty. Oh, what a spoon. What? A spoon? Hmm. That's cool. This would have been really cool. Look. I knew we would find something. Does it say anything on it? Oh that makes me so happy. I've probably been digging for 45 minutes or an hour. Wow that is so cool. Awesome. A spoon and one glass bottle so far. Now I have hope.

19:56

Oh.

20:02

Look, is that a lid?

20:07

Mom. Look, is that a lid? Mom!

20:08

You guys, you guys, you guys!

20:11

You guys.

20:12

What does the top say? I really hope that the bottom's in here. Bristol Meylers. Mom. New York, New York. Made in the USA. You guys look, look. That's glass. Oh, this makes me so glad that I chose to do this today. Bristol Myers Co. How incredible. I love guys. Oh my gosh. Look. WDCOCN. I'm so glad that I came out here and did this. Another one! There's liquid in that I should have my gloves on oh my gosh another one you

22:58

It's amber. Those are my fave. Unless that's a stamp, but...

23:07

I don't know.

23:11

What is that?

23:14

I'm going to have to clean that up a bit and see what that is, because... That almost looks like there's glass underneath all that. I'm gonna have to clean that up a bit and see what that is cuz that almost looks like there's glass underneath all that. There's another one. Huh? Where you at? Back here. What are you doing? Digging.

23:45

What are you digging? Bottles. The bottom has that on there. I'm digging. I'm digging. I'm digging.

24:00

I'm digging. huh back here diggin bottles the bottom has that on it is it a core or a stamp?

24:19

24:26

Oh yeah.

24:28

What does it say? I'm not telling. Guess.

24:32

You have to guess what it says. White heart.

24:34

Wow.

24:36

It says it on both sides.

24:38

Wow.

24:40

Yeah, very neat.

24:42

That is cool.

24:44

Alright, have fun. Okay. Just found this one, which does have writing on it. That's the first one that has writing on it. Oh there's one. That's a weird one. That's like a chemistry bottle. That is weird. Wow. That is cool. Wow look at that you guys. I can't believe that these are still intact. I've made quite the mess out here. Let's take a look at everything that I found. Oh my gosh, I didn't even realize that these had writing on them.

25:44

Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh. so Alright friends, I am going to wrap up the video here. I am so excited about the bottles that I found. I wish that I could just spend so much more time out here if there weren't so many other things to do. I probably would just come out here and dig and do a series of videos on that, but there's just so many other things that have to be done.

26:42

And as a final little update, I just wanted to let you all know that you saw the septic woman come, her name is Wendy, you saw her come out here and do the perk test in my previous videos. She said that I need to get with the surveyor, have him come out and look at the flags that she posted so that he can locate those on the plat. Then she will do the renderings, the drawings of the septic system because it has to be designed because it's not a conventional septic system. So that is all in the works. I also am sourcing some material to

27:17

get the roof going because I have been trying to get that project going but all of my local material supply stores are out of stock of the materials that it needs so I've been calling around and looking on marketplace and trying to find the materials to get that poly I so so that is gonna be happening very soon and I'm excited to get this whole back lot cleared and flat and able to be used for gardening so there's a lot of stuff

27:44

in the works behind the scenes. Just wanted to let you all know that and update you with where we are. So next week we are gonna be starting back inside and getting that ready and prepped for when I get the permit, for framing, all of that kind of stuff. So thanks for letting me dig for a little bit. I know it's not my usual content but it was fun and I hope that you enjoyed it. If you want to follow me So thanks for letting me dig for a little bit. I know it's not my usual content
