Karl Stefanovic departs Nine & Today Show | Today Show Australia

Welcome back, you are watching Today and look we know there has been a lot of speculation about Carl's future with the show.This morning we wanted to inform you that Carl will not be returning to the Today show or to Nine.

Yeah look as you know he's been pursuing a podcast project independently of Nine for the last few months and it's been decided he'll be injecting all of his energy and attention into that as doing both is no longer possible.

Carl has of course woken up with Today for 21 years so we know this is a huge change for our viewers and of course for us not just here on the desk but behind the scenes because there's a big team that puts this beautiful show together for you every day.He's our mate and he's our colleague and it goes without saying that Carl's presence will be missed.Two decades is a long time.

Yeah, but we are going to continue giving you the stories that matter every day because we all love this show.Everyone behind the scenes, as Sarah said, loves this show and that's why we all get out of bed every morning, so please stay with us.

And there will be a statement that goes out from Nine officially shortly.You know, we've all worked with him for periods of time.Dickie, probably no one longer than you.

Quarter of a century, I think it is.Yeah, Carl and I have been brothers -at -arms.I'll miss him very much on a daily basis, but we'll retain our friendship.I wish him and his beautiful family nothing but the best.but the best and every success in the future.

I think everyone here who's worked with Carl for any period of time knows just how hard he does work and this show has always been foremost in his mind.Obviously there are other projects that he's got on the go at the moment.That's his focus now.We've spoken to a lot of people over the past few days who have varying emotions.They're upset, they're angry, they're sad that this is all happening and we all wish that it wasn't ending like this and that we could say goodbye to you, Carl, our friend, in a different way.But yes, as Dickie said, we wish you all the best.
