And she got like super interested about every single bot.So, yeah, that game had a wonderful, like, progression to it, where you're, like, building your crew of Astro Bots and stuff like that.This shit was so cool, dude.Instead of them just being stars in Mario, they were characters with history and shit.I'm like, this is amazing.This is friggin' amazing.

So there's been - One of the games that I've been really into and more into of the series for quite a long time since like Tekken 5 has been Tekken 8, and it's had a rocky...It's had a very rocky, let's say, couple years, especially.It was looking pretty good in the first year, but ever since then it's been like really rough as far as the focus and direction of the game.And I've come back to it again, and I'm actually having even more fun.I think the game Just to spit, what do I feel on the current state of Tekken?I feel like the game's in a pretty good spot right now.

Like, legit.I talked to a few other creators that were playing it, and they kind of agree that the last couple of patches have been very, very, very good for Tekken 8 as a game.And why is that?There's just less crazy horse shit.Like, just to boil it down, when characters enter their crazy horse shit mode, which is heat mode, um my character included there's just less crazy stupid horseshit you can do to prevent the other person from playing so that says there'sjust a lot more interaction.

It just feels good.It's like, oh, this feels nice.I this is actually like I can actively feel the difference.This game is less frustrating, which is a good feeling.Does it fix everything?No.

But Tekken, I think Tekken 8 in its spot right now is maybe in the best spot it's been as a video game.since like season one I think it just feels good and I'm kind of inspired to play more so with that feel good feeling the director of the game just left with all those feel good feelings we talked about this a little bit on stream a couple other days we don't need to we don't need to establish much else but Nakatsu who was the director of Tekken 7 as well and has been on the Tekken team for 20 plus years, just left.This is in the wake of Hirata, who is one of the most respected people in the Japanese games industry, someone that I've had a lot of conversations with for a long time.I deeply appreciate Hirata.This is the guy that made Tekken 3, dude.When he left, that was like, oh, that's bad.

That must be really bad.He is Mr. Namco, right?And now that this is also happening as well, there is several key members of the Tekken team that have either left Tekken and joined Harada in his efforts, and I would not be surprised within a few weeks that the director of Tekken 7 and Tekken 8 might also join Harada at his new studio at SNK.I would not be surprised.That has not been announced yet.The only information we have right now is that Nakatsu is leaving and he does say there is one thing that's interesting in here.

I have entrusted the values of everything he learned and that baton to the incredible team that will continue shaping the futureof Tekken.As I look forward to the future of Tekken and the FGC, he'll continue taking on new challenges as a game developer.So he's not retiring.He's not quitting.He is specifically doing other stuff.

So a lot of people started like, so what does this mean for the future of Tekken?And I will say from me personally, not great.And I get it.You look, you look at other fighting games that have had this happen to them, other studios that have had this happen.This happened to Capcom as well.And specifically, Capcom had a tenureship of its fighting game division being managed by a very specific set of people.

And once those people were gone, it seemed like, oh, all these wonderful things we've been asking for for so long started happening as soon as like the old guard is gone.This is wonderful, dude.Oh my God, this is so great.I mean, I get that.But for those games, I would say that is a bit different, because the previous tenureship of fighting games, there was writing on the wall for like 10 years that this shit is dour, and it's not great.It's not like, hopefully this changes in the future.

When it eventually did change, hey, it actually changed for the way better.We got way better games and cooler things, and we're still waiting on things that could potentially happen.So it was like, oh, okay, this is great.Tekken has been nothing but like ups and downs from Tekken 5 back in 2005, which was clearly an up.Tekken 6, which was like, yeah, this is pretty good.But then Tekken Tag 2 was kind of a down moment.

Tekken 7 was incredibly big.And then Tekken 8 is another down moment.So Tekken does this like, it historically has done this.Tekken 3, Tekken 4, Tekken 5, Tekken 6, Tekken Tag, Tekken 7, Tekken 8.Like, I think they know this, that like every single time you get a new Tekken, it's either going to be amazing or I don't know.man.

And now we're in the, uh, I don't know, man.But that being said, I'm a little nervous.The reason is, and I have to bring up somebody that did a very good compilation on what's happening right now.I think it was Moonsault Slayer.What was his name?He had, or was it?

I need to find it.Yeah, so shout out to Moonsault.He actually gathered a bunch of these things on here.And specifically talking about Tekken, the developers, and the relationship with Bandai Namco.And I don't think that it is any...I don't think it is any mystery that Harada has been specifically vocal about the integrity of Bandai Namco as a company.

the people that he has to work for, and also how they are being treated as developers, right?So shout out to Moonsault for gathering some of these together.But there was an early whistleblower leak in 2024 that people were just not being treated fairly at Bandai Namco Entertainment.And when people were forced to, like, come back, especially from COVID and stuff, there was just, like, not very good employee conditions.Harada also specifically posted this in 2024.This is coming from his mouth directly.

Some of these have been deleted, by the way.Sometimes Harada is not able to continue saying these things because he's working under them.As games have a huge industry, many stakeholders have emerged.There are more and more self -proclaimed gamingpeople and executives who are not creators, do not even have development experience, do not directly face the voices of the fan and community.And come to think of it, it seems every year there are more and more people who, when I try to do something with an idea, tell me, Don't do it just because it's a passion or an idea.

I've done a lot of things with an idea, and that's why we have the foundation we have today.But I guess people who don't have experience in making anything don't understand that.Well, that is how mature this field has become.Hirata has not been coy of him having a vocal aggression towards what the hell is going down at Bandai Namco over the past few years.And even in 2024 in an IGN interview, If you're worried that June's appearance means Harada isn't thinking about throwing her son or anyone else into a volcano, think again.The first people that came to mind were perhaps certain executives at our company.

They change quite frequently, and some of them are only interested in obtaining the highest profits possible to further their careers, and they have no regard for development schedules or brand timelines.So some of them quickly flashed into my head.But if I had to think and I had to pick a second character, it's tough because most of them would probably survive if we look at past instances.Yeah, he's like, he is in his head creating a mental image of him throwing these executives into a fucking volcano.He is so done with this shit.I don't think just what has happened to Tekken 8 as a game and the way like fan responses happened is the only contributing factor of why this shit is going down.

It really feels like, based on what has been said for a little while now, There is some funky shit going down at Bandai Namco.The company's either getting too big, or something is happening, or they're getting nervous, or corporate restructuring, or profitability, or any of that kind of stuff, and it is having a direct effect on creative people making creative games.So with that being said, I would not be surprised if this somehow has weeded its way into Tekken in some way too.Hirata did a really good job at keeping Tekken separate from Bandai Namco.So I almost am sympathetic with the devs.If some of the weird ass decision making that happened behind the scenes wasn't just the developers being inept or lacking communication or something like that.

It almost makes you wonder because we don't know how much corporate fucking meddling could have possibly happened behind the scenes here.You know, like at some point in Tekken 8's development, this game has been made since like, what, 2022, if not earlier, like maybe even 2021.Uh, probably 2021 actually, maybe even earlier than that.In that process, they made a game and then people just start showing up and saying shit and asking them to do stuff.And dude, chat, I'm going to paint a scenario for you here.I'm going to paint a scenario.

How, how bonkers would it be if at some point in Tekken season one, as things are going good and people are generally vibing with the game, um, some executive and their 14 year old kid plays Tekken 8.And he watches them play Tekken 8, some executive with, like, in their golden cottage on a hill in Japan.And they watch their kid play Tekken 8, and the kid is crying.Cannot believe how hard this game is.Oh, it's a nightmare.And they go, huh!

This is our game!And my child is crying.Why should my kid not be able to have fun with this game?What is happening?Went online and got smashed by some Tekken player, knowledge checking the shit out of him.Goes to the people that are directly making the game, undermines the developers like here's what's crazy i've heard of crazier shit than this like you you this

outlandish and impossible, goes to the developers, and like undermines even the directors and shit, and goes like, change this.My kids aren't having fun with this.How are we going to get a new audience if kids aren't having fun with this?My kid was crying playing Tekken 8, getting knowledge checked by some crazy bullshit.Make it even cra - Give my kid a chance.So, like, I'm not even saying that's what happened.

I'm not even saying - We don't - What I'm saying is we don't know.We don't know how much this shit has possibly had an impact from an executive level just to fuck with shit.And you would like to think that the devs and the creatives have control of what happens in their games, and they literally have none.They have none.So, anyway, it could still be that the developers just weren't listening and there was a lack of communication in Season 2 and beyond, or that there was a lot of corporate meddling and these guys clearly had enough.Like, this is it.

We can't do this anymore.We're losing our minds.Everybody, the higher -ups are super pissed off at them, and then the fans are also pissed off at them.What the higher -ups want is something completely different than what the fans want, and there's no winning this shit.I'm just saying I don't that is not a recollection of what has happened, bitch, but I have heard much crazier shit happen in this industry, much crazier shit.This is followed up recently with Mike Murray.

I, I, I think what is happening over here with Mike Murray on Twitter is possibly a good example of a thing that I hope fighting game developers from this point forward, I think this would be a good practice game.forward.I have a lot of respect for Mike Murray, don't get me wrong.This dude has been involved in Tekken for the longest time and just because things are down right now or during Tekken Tag, does that change that they weren't involved with some of like the best Tekkens that have been released?They literally were, dude.So Mike is a lead producer on the game, right?

Like literally the lead producer on Tekken 8.And people are trying to figure out like, like saying the last two patches are not done by Nikkatsu, like people trying to make up shit.But Mike responds that the reason them leaving could be also contributed to the fact that the online Tekken community is so vitriolic, is that the right word?They're so toxic that yeah, them leaving could have been a contributing factor.Harada and Nikkatsu were also putting up with corporate for 20 years.So even Mike Murray also adding in this, like both of them is telling that this is probably they're they're unable to make the new corporate overlords happy and they're also unable to make the tech and online community happy they're done dude like we're we're see ya so anyway yeah the the tech and community is the tech and community what mike's saying is like It does not have the most tact, okay?

This further justifies a thought that I have.I think fighting game developers should have zero access to social media.I think that is the responsibility of community members, like specifically hired community people, you know, like they should be the ones to gather that information and report what's happening to the developers.The developers should not be in direct communication with fans.I do not.I just this does not work, man.

We need a community manager, a thing that most people do.want anymore.Because most people know if you're a community manager on a game now, it's a huge pain in the ass, dude.It's like a nightmare.Tekken desperately needs it.You need somebody to be a vocal outreach for your game, and to be able to communicate things in a way that makes them feel listened to.

And yes, if you're the lead producer on a game like Mike Murray is, having to hear so much shit from one side and the other side and all this stuff, and the same thing with Akatsu and Harada, I don't... these guys have lost their fucking minds most likely, because they are... they're brunting every single side of these attacks from everybody.A community manager is what this game needs.Me?No.It needs to have somebody, this is somebody's full -time ass job, is all I'm saying.So, long story short, I...

Once again, Mike is just proving the fact that I don't think that fighting game devs should be tweeting.I don't think that fighting game devs should be communicating and getting information from Twitter.I don't think they should be getting communication from YouTube videos.I think there should be somebody's job to gather all of this stuff together and then communicate to the devs the grievances, the wants, the concerns, and also what's going good.Long story short, and this is just an example of it, because imagine what this is leading to now.Imagine the Tekken community once again is feeling unheard and unsatisfied by what's happening because of stuff like this.

So yeah, that also makes a lot of sense.The last thing I want to add to this, to answer the final question, is Tekken dead?Is this game, like, cooked?I don't know.But to look back and to think that a game like Tekken 8 which has so many people, this is such a huge game chat like in the scale of everything like it's such a big game that they made to think that it only comes down to Harada, it only comes down to the lead director of the game, it only comes down to one or two peopleThe only reason that people associate Nakatsu, Arata, Mike Murray with Tekken and display their grievances through those people as those people are causing those grievances is because they are the face of the product.

And let's just start.I just want to show you something before we have to get we'll start moving on.Harada, executive game director, the executive producer of the game is gone.The chief producer of the game and the core game director is gone.However, the lead producer and the second director of the game, Shinbori, is still there.The director of the game also is still there.

All the game design directors are also still there.The battle director is still there.Uh, the lead game designers are all still there.The game designers themselves, the project support manager, the game design support managers, the tech - all these people are still there.Uh, oh wait, Shimbori left too.Sorry.

There's a reason why a lot of people are playing the game right now.Having a Baki character will do that.But for the majority of you that are like wondering about this, if the game is on sale, I think it's worth checking out right now.It's a fully featured ass game with a lot of shit that you can do in it with a great story mode, gorgeous graphics, beautiful characters.Like there's a lot to like in Tekken 8.It's a very high quality game.
