We have gone and we have got...Javi Alonso.

The fact that Javi Alonso is the Chelsea manager is such a terrible indictment of what's been going on at Liverpool.They have missed out on their main target.It's unbelievable that this is actually happening.I am honestly, honestly appalled.The fact that it has come to this stage is just a shocker.I'm honestly, I just can't believe that it is here.

I can't believe it's where we are.The fact that Liverpool have allowed themselves to get into this situation.Arnaslot, he did wonderful things in his first season.The way that he landed, he was a duck to water.He inherited that brilliant Jürgen Klopp side and he took it in his stride.He won the league, he won the league at Canter and he rediscovered, almost redefined the form of Mohamed Salah.

Now, fair play to him, he did very well there.But ever since then, everything has gone wrong.Ever since the summer, in fact, some Liverpool fans, some Liverpool fans who watch their games diligently will have told you that it actually went wrong sooner.They will have told you that it actually went wrong for Arnastadio.far sooner than the end of the season.Some would say that it started going wrong towards the end of last season.

So the clues were there.Now, I would say that Arnaud Slot had to leave Liverpool.And can I tell you why?Obviously, the performances weren't good enough.Obviously, the way that he set his team up wasn't good enough.Obviously, the substitutions were baffling.

And obviously, it had come to its end.But do you know why I felt like he wasn't the Liverpool manager?He didn't look like one.He didn't sound like one.He wasn't right to be the Liverpool manager.I think that you could say, if you look at the whole reasoning why Arnold Slot was sacked, only 20 % of it for me was football.

It was the conduct.When you think about being Liverpool manager, think about Liverpool Football Club, what do you think of immediately?You think of greatness, you think of history, you think of European success, you think of the love and the loyalty between the Kop and the manager, you think of all of those famous photos that are up in the Kop.You know, they make a real big deal out of their Liverpool managers, don't they?They make a real big deal out of the love and the loyalty that they demonstrate to their manager.You know, they love Raphael Benitez.

Regardless of him going to Chelsea or Everton, they love Raphael Benitez.Obviously, the spirit of Shankly will forever commemorate the brilliance of what they do.Bill Shankly did at that club.They genuinely do love their managers.And this just went so wrong.This just went so wrong.

You think about what you need to be the Liverpool manager.

Think about what Bob Paisley brought to that job.Think about what Bill Shankly brought to that job.

Think about what it takes to be Liverpool manager.It's a certain character.It's a certain characteristic.It's a certain charm.It's a certain confidence.It's a certain arrogance.

and Arneslot just didn't have it.Arneslot quite simply did not have it.And the way that he would speak, the way that he would speak in interview about being Liverpool manager, about what he expected of Liverpool.

You know, there was a moment.I'm not a Liverpool fan, right?I lived in Liverpool for a few years.when I was a student, but I'm not a Liverpool fan.When I was there, you can kind of feel the aura of the club.

You can feel the prestige of the club.You can feel the history of the club.It takes somebody spectacular.And Arna Slot's not that.Arna Slot is obviously not that.You think about the, the, the, what, I mean, I suppose fondly they would call, like, the Holy Trinity.

When they went Shankly into Paisley into Fagan.That era of Liverpool dominance, that era of Liverpool dominance, signifies what the Liverpool manager should be.

I couldn't believe my ears.I was on TalkSport, and I had to react to this, and I was really scathing about Arnaud Slot, and I actually regretted it, what I said afterwards.I was really harsh.

But I listened to an interview where Arnaud Slot speaks about being the Liverpool manager, and bearing in mind Liverpool's history, the greed of Liverpool for silverware.

He was talking about Liverpool, and he basically said, the style of play is more important than trophies.

And you're like, mate, that's idiot speak.That is moron speak.That is absolute idiot.Hipster London.Hipster London idiot who wears those mad clog shoes and has some sort of tash and a statement sock and only drinks a flat white mate.Yeah, statistics.

It's that kind of burk.You know, the kind of person that loves stats and the kind of person that kind of revolves their footballing opinion around stats.Yeah, actually, we had more possession.Actually, our style of play is better.So you can't get away with that anywhere, in my opinion.But at Liverpool, you mad.

At Liverpool, an institution that is founded upon winning.An institution that mocks and derides anyone that doesn't embrace the culture of winning.You know, on the Kop, you will see a banner that says 1995.Do you know what that 1995 signifies?

It signifies the moment that Everton lost 1 -1 Silverware.Paul Rydout scoring against Manchester City.

If an Evertonian tried to tell a Liverpool fan we've got a better style of play, they would laugh.And Arnaud Slot conformed to that stereotype.If you spoke to Joe Fagan and started talking about the style of play, he would mock you.If you started talking to Bob Paisley about the style of play, he would mock you.If you started talking about, to Kenny Douglas, to Graham Soonest, to John Barnes, to Ian Rush, to Peter Beardsley, about style of play being equally important, I think it is absurd.So when I say that it's the correct decision for Arnold Slot to go, when I say that he deserves to be sacked, it is 20 % what he did as manager, 80 % the man.

He was the best left back in the league that year.And I don't think he had a bad season at all last year.I think he's a really good player.Right?I think they need to spend some money.I think they really do need to sign midfielders.

They've missed out on too many midfielders too many times.Like, Liverpool needed to sign Bellingham when it looked like they were going to sign Bellingham, but they didn't.They needed to sign Zoubamendi when it looked like they were going to sign Zoubamendi, but they didn't.They needed to sign Caicedo.They needed to sign Lavia.There have been a lot of midfielders that Liverpool missed out on and they never really replaced, they never really signed anyone.

They kind of redefined Ryan Gravenberch.Very clever.Credits a slot in that.But I think what they need to do is go and spend in the middle.Go on.But I think that is the kind of manoeuvre and equally I don't think it's difficult to make this Liverpool team look brilliant.

But Liverpool are ten times a bigger club than Man City.Liverpool have ten times the history of Man City.Liverpool are capable of spending.Like, FSG have money.So, see if there's a world where, like, Elliot Anderson's mustard, isn't he?So good.

Everything you want from a central midfielder, in my opinion, is Elliot Anderson.I love the bloke.I really do.I think he has a little bit of everything.He plays with an edge.He's got an eye for a goal.

He's physical.He cares.He's passionate.He's wonderful on the ball.He's technically gifted.He would fit in at Anfield and imagine how the Kop would react to a player like him.

Imagine how the elevation of that midfield with Elliot Anderson in it and imagine what the Kop would do, right?So that's, that's another signing right in the heart of the middle.And then, you know, you keep Jones, you get Sir Bozlai back in his rightful position, Graven, but suddenly it looks like a very different team.And then I guess this is what you employ a top manager for.

Your, your responsibility is to make sure that Alexander Isak and Ekotike are the best front two in the league, which they can be.Like that sounds a huge task, but I don't think it is.Like Ekotike played up front in a two with Marmouche at Frankfurt.

You just do that.You get Alexander Isak and Mahmoud in the same side.I think that team that I've just created there.
