‘Love who you want to love’: PM Mark Carney speaks about LGBTQ+ rights at Toronto Pride

I do feel everyone is feeling like this is so wonderful to see the Prime Minister of Canada.I believe it is Mark Harney's first time as Prime Minister walking in the parade, and there he is right now.High -fiving.Yes, let's see if we can pull him aside with Mayor Olivia Chow.They're making their way over here.Look at all these people.

He's waving to everybody there in the balcony.See, yeah.As you can imagine, he is incredibly popular, and he's taking these.That's the best part of this.

I mean, we all know Mayor Olivia Chao.She loves a good parade, and it's so nice to see Prime Minister Mark Carney, as well, enjoying himself.Okay, he is almost here.We just got to make sure security sees us.There's Mayor Chao.She's got the spark.

She's got the... extreme heat and but unbelievable energy the whole city coming together actually the whole world coming together because we got people from Ghana we've got people from Dominica we've got people from Grenada we've got people from the United States of Americahere to Canada to celebrate freedoms.

Prime Minister, can I ask, I know this year is extra special because we are celebrating World Cup hosting here in Toronto, so it's the best of both worlds coming together.

Yeah, absolutely.We see excellence on the field.We saw it with our team in Vancouver and a real life lesson on how they responded to adversity.Let's, you know, think about the life lesson today.We're commemorating.and 10 years of the horrible tragedy in Florida.

And the names, as you'll see in a moment, of the victims and the community coming together, rising above it.And it's a reminder that we always have to, you know, we've got to fight for our rights, and we've got to respect each other, love whom we want to love, work together, and no better city than Toronto to celebrate.

To be joyful and love wins.And what a forecast.I mean, to be here together, what does this mean to be able to celebrate with these two incredible people?We've got the Prime Minister here, we've got Mayor Olivia Chao, but what does it mean to you?to be able to see this kind of representation on every level.And we're walking together, we're standing on the street together.

You know, this is what leadership looks like.And as Prime Minister and Mayor, they're here to represent all Canadians.And this is what it's about.This is the leadership that we want to see from coast to coast to coast.We want our prime minister, we want our elected officials from all levels of government to stand with the 2SLGBTQ plus community.And I couldn't be more happier to have the mayor and the prime minister with us.

And this is not political.You know, we hope that others will join.2027, we're looking forward to having all levels of government with us standing with the community.
