Manhattan evacuation due to a possible collapsing building

You've got this 37 -story Manhattan skyscraper currently actively shifting and on the verge of collapsing.

This led to officials locking down the area, evacuating a school, and attempting to avoid a total collapse and disaster.And as far as what we know, just around 8 a .m., first responders rushed to the former Pfizer Global Headquarters on East 42nd Street.Right, and you've got this massive building that's currently undergoing the largest office -to -apartment conversion in New York City history.I mean, we're talking like 1 ,600 future units.

And then you have construction workers suddenly noticing something terrifying.

Two massive steel support columns completely buckled on the 21st and 22nd floors.It caused a chain reaction where floors 21, through 26 are now visibly sagging inside.And then you have it getting worse because FDNY chief, John Esposito.He came out and said that they've deployed high -tech sensors and they're detecting continual movement in the building.So you've got it actively shifting fractions of an inch, meaning that it's still incredibly unstable.And because of that, officials have evacuated at least nine surrounding buildings, including a hotel, businesses, and even a school with 400 students.

Even entire city blocks have been cut off from traffic, causing complete chaos.And while now, you have officials saying because it's a steel frame building, a total catastrophic pileup collapse, that's unlikely, a major mid -building localized cave -in, that's still a very real danger.With local authorities already claiming that it was the developers' fault for doing excavations or beyond what was approved.So from here, you got the city hoping to avoid disaster and they're already bringing in emergency beams to try and take the load off of the building.But really from there, right now, you don't know if it can be salvaged or it's gonna have to undergo a controlled demolition.
