Mechanic tells customer she paid $3,850 for transmission work that was never done

She paid nearly $4 ,000 for transmission work.Months later, the mechanic who worked on her SUV called, claiming he never touched it.

Not only that, he says he recorded what he did.It's all on video, and local 10 News investigator Jeff Weintzer has that video.

Last November, Jade Hills 2008 Ford Edge wouldn't move the SUV towed to a action better build transmissions.It's 7685 Pines Blvd in Pembroke Pines, and she says a service advisor told her I needed a transmission.

The cost nearly $4000 money Hill didn't have.She actually had to take out a loan.Oh, I was balling.I cried.Like most of us, Hill says she trusted the experts.And when she picked up her SUV, she was told the transmission carried a one year warranty.

Did they ever say anything to you about axles?

No, no, never, never, ever, ever.Months later.I get a call.

Hill says the man on the line told her he was the mechanic who worked on her SUV.He told her he recorded the repair as he was doing it.to document the work in case it was ever questioned.

November 24th, 2 .30.

He told Hill the transmission was never touched.All right, Jade Hill.One new axle here, one new axle there.The car is running right now.After replacing the axles, the mechanic takes Hill's SUV for a test drive.Shift, shift, shift.

Transmission's perfect.Transmission shifts beautifully.It does not have to be touched whatsoever.He then tells the camera he wants to see how the shop responds after he reports the transmission is working properly.

We'll see what their response is.It's like, oh, no, it's fine.It's fine.good.Just leave it like that.

The mechanic then speaks to the service advisor that he'll identified as aging both axles.

Yeah, that's it.

Yeah, so oh sorry, I just basically sold them the unit.The unit.

The conversation moves from the office to the shop lady.She's crying on the phone and s***.

Hill says she was stunned when she saw the video.I'm livin'.

Livin'.I knew it from the beginning that's what was gonna happen.I'm so sorry, G, but I gotta do my job.

Are you Mr. Murkan?Is there someone that can talk to us about Ms. Hill and some video?No one at a action transmissions would answer our questions.The invoice shows Hill was charged for extensive transmission related parts and labor along with axle replacement.Industry estimates indicate just replacing the on her Ford Edge typically costs far less than the nearly $4 ,000 she was billed for and paid.The video speaks for itself.

Hill has now hired an attorney who has sent a demand letter to the transmission shop claiming she paid thousands for work that was never done.I mean this is this is a theft.This is committing a fraud.Shop owner Louis Mercan declined an on -camera interview, but through his attorney, he disputes the mechanic's allegations, saying company records show the transmission repair was performed and demanded Local 10 not air the video recordings.The letter says the mechanic was terminated, was a disgruntled former employee who threatened to harm his business.

The letter also states that the mechanicthe company has launched an internal investigation and will make Hill whole if it finds improper conduct.As we were preparing this story, Hill's attorney told us the parties have reached a verbal resolution but could not discuss the terms.As for Jade Hill, she says the ordeal with her Ford Edge has pushed her over.
