Mexico Takes Down Top Cartel Leader and Undermines Trump Claims

500 Mexican troops, six helicopters, and several planes just took down one of the most wanted cartel leaders on earth.without firing a single shot.Aurelius Flores Silver, known as the Gardener, was the likely successor to lead Mexico's most powerful cartel, the Jalisco New Generation Cartel.The US had a $5 million bounty on its head, and this morning, Mexican Navy Special Forces surrounded a cabin near Puerto Vallarta, where Flores was being guarded by 30 pickup trucks and more than 60 gunmen.And he had his escort scattering as a decoy, but Flores was found hiding in a drainage ditch.Mexican Navy, they described it as, quote, the second top CJNG leader, Mexico's taken out in two months.

So he's expected to be extradited to the United States, partially because letting cartel leaders sit in Mexican prisons historically hasn't gone well.Just look at El Chapo who escaped twice.This is a huge win for Mexican president, Claudia Scheinbaum, who's under enormous pressure from Trump to allow US troops into Mexico.But her message today was loud and clear.We don't need you.Especially after two CIA officers were killed in an unauthorized operation in Chihuahua last week.
