Nick Ferrari CORNERS Labour Minister Over Burnham's LAST MINUTE Prison Release PANIC!
Your government has been spooked by that, and quite rightly has pressed the pause button. That's why you've taken this decision, isn't it?
In this video, Labour's law and order narrative collapses in real time during a brutal, sustained cross -examination on LBC.Nick Ferrari corners Cabinet Minister Sally Jameson over Labour's disastrous early release scheme, trapping her on her own voting record. Then Ferrari forces her to answer for the Southport killer's controversial hospital transfer.Watch this.
Can I speak to you a little bit about the career you were having before you came into politics? You're a former prison officer. You've been brave enough to serve as a prison officer. You were branch chair of the POA, Prison Officers Association.Where do you stand on this pause, this re -examination of what's called the early release scheme? What needs to be re -examined to inform the decision, do you think?
Well, I think it's right that it's been paused for an urgent review to take place in the coming days and weeks so that the victims but also the public more generally can have confidence that the right decisions are being taken about who is being released when.I think alongside that it's really important to recognise that we can never ever allow our prison system to get to the brink of collapse that it got to just over two years ago.ago when we came into office we had that summer I think we came to just below a hundred bed spaces in the adult male estate that is incredibly dangerous not just the people that work in prisons but actually the public more widely and I think everyone needs confidence that we've got the capacity.
But I ask you what will be urgently what is that will be reviewed if we may go forward rather than and you did inherit a real hospital pass from the previous Conservative administration but what needs to be reviewed now Minister?
Well, I think the urgent review that's taking place by the government, and I don't want to pre -empt what the outcome is, but looking at at what point criminals are released but also who's being released and what people and what their index offences are and when they're being released.being released but also making sure that when people are released the right support and the right restrictions are in place.
Would you be supportive of the early release of the killers of that police constable in Thames Valley?
Well, I'm not going to comment on individual cases.I don't think that's fair and I don't want to speculate about what the outcome of that review is going to be.But I think it's important that everyone has confidence, both those who are working inside the criminal justice system, but also the public and victims have confidence that it's working properly, that the right support is in place, but also that the capacity is there so that prisons can operate safely.
It's interesting you mention that.Of course, this has been announced by the Justice Secretary, Mr Norris.who voted in favour of the early release scheme. It does rather puzzle some of my listeners that a couple of years ago Alex Norris says, it's a good idea. Now his justice secretary says, whoa, pause, we have to re -examine the idea.Politicians just go the way of weather vanes, don't they, Minister?
No, I think what's being reviewed here is how it's being implemented and I think that's the right thing to do and it's the right thing that the government takes stock and makes the right decisions. So that's what's being looked at in the coming days and weeks but I think the principle of reforming sentencing so that we both have the capacity in prisons but also and I think this is really important is that part of the changes is the the second part of the sentence which is in the community will be heavily supervised we've invested huge amounts of money in probation accommodation and offenders will be tagged and actually victims have an input on license conditions as well so there's some really important changes there.
Minister did you vote in favour of the early release scheme?
I've only favoured the sentencing bill, yes.
But why?So you are in favour of it, aren't you?
Yeah, I'm in favour of changes to sentencing.so that it works better for victims but also that so we have the capacity because actually you know if prisoners get back...
So what's changed from when you voted for it?Can I put it to you, the only thing that's changed is a particularly heinous example has been exposed by the media of two people who are involved in the killing of a police officer, seem to show no remorse, indeed laughed during their trial at the Old Bailey and are set for release under Labour's plans. And when I say you, not you personally, your government has been spooked by that and quite rightly has pressed the pause button. That's why you've taken this decision, isn't it?
Well I think it's right that when issues are flagged that any government takes stock and has a look.I think that's absolutely the right thing to do.I don't think there's anything wrong with saying that something has been brought to our attention and we're going to look at this again. But I think that the principle of needing to make sure that we have capacity in our prison system but also that victims and the public have confidence that A, there's going to be enough spaces to lock up the criminals of tomorrow because we don't want to get in a position where we have to shut down the courts and stop making arrests because there's not a single bed space left.
The devastating cross -examination doesn't end there.
Ferrari immediately pivots to one of the most sensitive criminal cases in the country, demanding to know why the Southport killer was moved out of a standard high -security prison and whether he could soon qualify for state benefits.

Get started freepsychiatric jail Mark Fairhurst someone you certainly know of if not don't personally who chairs the POA says he's playing the system is nothing more than evil he should spend his entire sentence in solid solitary staring at four wheels why aren't we listening to the victims families why is this taking place I think first and foremost the victims
have to come first and I think it's difficult for me to comment on an individual case because I don't know the reasons why in a decisions been taken.
You were in the POA I mean it's you a you're a very brave woman to do that job B you're obviously good at it because you got into the POA and you're a chair you were a chair you must have a view on this Well, it's very difficult when I haven't got the circumstances in front of me and I haven't seen the work that's been done to move him there.AR has been transferred to Broadmoor from a high -security jail. What do you need to know?
Well, what I know is that once he's received whatever treatment that's deemed he needs to receive, he'll be transferred straight back to jail to serve the rest of his sentence.
He's also going to potentially qualify for benefits now, Minister. How can that be right? He murdered three children.
Well it's not right and I sincerely hope that he won't be qualifying for benefits but actually fundamentally what I think is important to note is he will not get time off his sentence and he will be returned to jail as soon as possible and also the high security hospitals, they're not like ordinary hospitals, they are a prison hospital, he will be kept under very stringent conditions befitting actually to his crime but also the level of security that needs to be put around him.
The facade is slipping.Labour enthusiastically backed the early release scheme until the political heat became too much, and now they are desperately backpedalling on live radio.Worse, you have a former prison officer turned minister completely unable to explain why one of the country's most notorious killers is being transferred out of a standard prison environment. This isn't a government with a coherent justice strategy. It's the government reacting to the latest headline in a total panic.Let us know what you think of Labour's law and order collapse in the comments below and subscribe for more.
