Police say missing boy, 7, found dead at Binbrook Conservation Area

Hamilton police are reporting a tragic end today to the search for a missing child.

They say the body of a seven -year -old Hamilton boy has been found after he went missing yesterday at the Binbrook Conservation Area.Al Sweeney is covering the story for us tonight.He joins us live in studio with the very latest.Al.

Taz, police reported the sad news just a short time ago after a massive search for 70 -year -old Nathaniel Salambi.They had been combing through the conservation area and its lake after he went missing during a Canada Day celebration with his family.By mid -afternoon today, about 24 hours after the boy was last seen, police, fire, and paramedic officials were pulling their searchers out of the Binbrook Conservation Area.About 50 officers, along with helicopters, marine units, ground searchers, and the mounted unit, were going through the park looking for Nathaniel Salambi.They say he was with his family and there was a large crowd of about a thousand people in the park yesterday when he disappeared.

He left his group and was walking towards the water.There was quite a few large heavy -duty play structures in the water that were obviously quite attractive to the kids who were playing.who were here yesterday and he was last seen walking towards there and right near the beach area.

His family said he was attracted to the water structures.This picture taken just yesterday shows him wearing swimming goggles.

They said he was here and he was having a really good time and was really fascinated with the large water structures as any kid would be.

The conservation area says lifeguards are stationed throughout the park and life jackets are required.Police say they looked into every possibility, including searching cars at the park yesterday in case he'd been abducted.But police divers found the boy's body this afternoon in the water.

Unfortunately, today the dive team of the Peel Regional Police that came in assistance for the search of the missing person discovered his body submerged underwater at the Benbrook Conservation Area.

And it was the second Canada Day tragedy at the conservation area.A 61 -year -old Hamilton man died after his kayak capsized at about the time heavy thunderstorms moved through the area yesterday.

A short but very intense storm happened and during the storm a kayaker that was on the lake capsized.Unfortunately he wasn't able to make it to the shore and he was eventually pronounced deceased at the hospital.

As for Nathaniel, police say the search took some time because poor visibility in the lake's murky water made it difficult for divers.
