'Punched, broken rib' | One Nation staffer attacked at festival

Barnaby Joyce is about to join us.I want to ask him about reports we've received that a One Nation worker or volunteer has been assaulted at the Ekker in Brisbane and she's been left with a broken rib.We also want to talk to Barnaby about this gun buyback scheme.New South Wales is the only state or territory to roll out the gun buyback scheme with Anthony Albanese.It'll be rolled out in two stages starting from November.And the scheme is already being met with some strong opposition.

The scheme is half -baked and it's not addressing the real issue.It's not targeting the real enemy.On December 14 last year, I walked into a massacre in my own community and I saw the dead and I saw the injured and I know the trauma that people continue to live with to this very day.And for that reason I am so invested in making sure that our community is safe, truly safe.But to suggest a gun buyback is going to solve this for us, is going to stop another Bondi, it's absolute bull****.

So the Liberal Party's against it, the National Party's against it and One Nation's against it.Barnaby Joyce is on the line right now.

Good morning, and good morning to your listeners.

Is Kelly Sloan right?

Look, I'm in agreement with her.That's fair enough.That's what you do in politics.When you agree, you agree.When you disagree, you disagree.The farmers were not the criminals of Bondi.

not with the law -abiding people that appeared at the seminar that we had in Dubbo, over 500 people at the forum, because we don't want to be...I'm a gun owner, so I can declare my interest.We don't want to be treated like criminals for a crime we never committed.And taking rifles off people and guns off people who've done nothing but gone out with their sons or their daughters to go out shooting in the countryside, to put their feet on the land, you can't do that.your country if you're not allowed to walk on it.And this gives one of our great recreational pursuits.

in this nation, and we don't want to be hounded because we're the easy touch.Rather than go out and deal with the Islamic fundamentalists, I won't deal with them because they're terrorism and terrorism's scary.I won't deal with that.So we'll go to the people who are law -abiding and then piously tell everybody that this is the solution.Of course it is not.And what we have to do is address the problem, not address law -abiding citizens.

And if you take a recreational shooter, let's say they've got a rifle from their grandfather, A rifle that they used as a child, a rifle from their father.Three rifles, they might never use them, but they're there, they're heirlooms.And so many people say, we don't tell you how many golf clubs you can have.We don't tell you how many toilets you can have in your house.We don't tell you how many cars you can have.And you say, because that's your life.

Well, this is ours.

But also, what are they suggesting here, Barnaby?Are they suggesting that the perpetrators at Bondi, and we know that one of them is still before the courts, were those alleged to have gone to Bondi Beach in December to kill as many Jews as they could possibly find, that they would, people like those people, would hand in their guns during a gun buyback?

Of course not.These are terrorists.You think they'll say, oh well, there you go, can't do it, Mohammed, because we've got to hand them all back in.It doesn't work like that.And the only other thing terrorists do, they buy illegal weapons.And if you think there are no illegal weapons, well, I suppose there's no illegal cigarettes, there's no cocaine, there's no dope either.

Of course there are illegal weapons.and there's a market for them, and they're brought in illegally.And so the problem with that is precisely that, they're illegal, so you've got no control, you've got no line of sight on them.And we've got to make sure that we've got to stop the state continuing to intrude in our lives.The state isnot our boss.

The state is our servant.The individual has got to be the key focus and getting rights back to the individual and the purpose and role of the state being, you know, being limited to what it's supposed to do.And coming to my recreational, law -abiding recreational pursuits, And how I live as an Australian, a big part, there are so many people who this is part of their recreational pursuit.I live on the country, there are so many people who come up from Sydney and come up from the mines to go shooting on our place.We can't take too many because that's an impingement on how we operate our price.And who are those people?

Usually a bloke with their dad, a bloke with their son, camping.I look at them and go, I can't see anything really bad about that.man and his son.

And Barnaby, why is it that it's just Anthony Albanese and Chris Minns left there at the altar holding hands and all the other state premiers and chief ministers from the territories have all said no to this scheme?

Well, I think with Premier Means, his own admittance, he said, I don't think I've ever held a firearm.I know I've never fired one.So it's like someone having a view on golf and they've never been to a golf course and they've never held a club.I mean, you're sort of coming from the wrong angle if you've never actually been part of our job, our recreation and how we live in regional areas and how other people from Sydney and other areas enjoy regional areas.And Minster Albanese, well, I don't think there's another gentleman I don't believe has ever been out shooting with his son.So, you've got two people who have got no idea about the recreational pursuit they're dealing with, with the rights of the people that they're dealing with, and because they don't understand their rights, they want to take their rights off them.

And look, I'll state my position on guns.I'm someone, I live in the big smoke and I don't live in the small smoke.the bush where Barnaby lives and I think the fewer guns in the cities the better, but I cannot see one bad faith actor or terrorist out there handing in a gun to the gun buyback scheme, not one.That's why I think this thing will be a failure.Teenagers were involved.Can you give me any information on that?

Yes, she's wearing the one nation t -shirt, you know, these evil evil elderly ladies She was spat at punched.They broke a rib and you know, this is the This is the wonder the wondrous enlightened people like you saw at those demonstrations the other day You know the peace loving people and one nation, of course is the bad one one nation is terrible.So you have an elderly party worker minding her own business like your mother, or your grandmother, being spat on, punched, thrown to the ground, and a rib broken.Now that, the reason they do that is they absolutely hate One Nation.They had chance the other day, they wanted to murder Pauline Hanson, murder her, and you know, this is the alternative.The one thing about One Nation is it says things, and it stands up for things, so the people who don't want us to stand up for things hate us.

And you have a look at what's happened to this poor woman, spat on, punched and left with a broken rib.Absolutely appalling and despicable and we hope that she makes a full recovery.We'll talk to you soon Barnaby.
