Rainfall warning issued in Calgary with up to 100mm of Rain expected to fall

What's expected to be four days of heavy rainfall in Calgary has begun.Environment Canada has issued a yellow rainfall warning for the city with 50 to 100 millimeters of rain expected to fall from Sunday through Wednesday.Now, for whatever reason, if this makes you want to go out on a boat ride, The Calgary Fire Department is warning people not to do this.They've issued a boating advisory for both the Bow and Elbow Rivers due to the fast current and high river levels.660 News meteorologist Kevin Stanfield breaks down how much has fallen so far and what Calgarians can expect.

When we turn the page into Monday morning, we're likely to have seen 50 millimetres of rainfall just through Sunday, with up to 40 millimetres of rain in parts of the city having fallen between midnight and the noon hour Sunday.As we push on to Monday and Tuesday, we're still anticipating another 40 plus millimetres of rain.

In a press conference Friday, the city of Calgary said it's well equipped to deal with the influx rainfall and isn't expecting significant overland flooding.They even lowered the level of the Glenmore Reservoir ahead of the rain.On her weekly radio show, Premier Danielle Smith says the province is ready to help out in case of any natural disaster.

We step in when the local agencies get overwhelmed.And so we've been on standby helping out.I think we've had about 300 fires this year that we've helped out on.When it comes to flooding, we've got the Springbank Dry Dam.We're working with the Ghost Reservoir to make sure that they're managing water levels.

Despite a low flood risk for the storm, Environment Canada is reminding the public that water will likely pool on roads and in low -lying areas, not to drive through flooded roadways, and to watch for washouts near rivers, creeks, and culverts.Joel Mendelson, City News, Calgary.
