It's a dream come true, you guys.My 1 ,000 Hz monitor is in the mail right now.But I've got a problem.Getting 1 ,000 FPS in games is still nearly impossible.There's Windows bottlenecks, driver bottlenecks, thermal bottlenecks, game engine bottlenecks, and of course, good old -fashioned hardware bottlenecks.Everything is against us in our quest to get the most out of this god -tier gaming display.

Sorry, you're trying to hit a thousand FPS?Yeah.We better start overclocking.I mean, that is what we do, isn't it?That's right.

But before we do that, a quick primer on the concept for those that are new to it.Out of the box, every processor in your entire life has been tuned from the factory for a balance of performance, power consumption, and reliability.But here's the thing, when your goal is to sell millions of chips that run as cool as possible with as few defects as possible, you end up leaving a little bit of performance on the table.Well, that's where overclocking comes in.By turning up the frequency, or the clock, we can get extra performance.Though, not without limits.

See, pushing the frequency too high is gonna cause instability, which we can overcome by turning up the voltage, but... that is in turn going to increase power consumption and heat.And also eventually too much voltage is going to simply fry our chip.So it's all a fine balancing act and cooling is of paramount importance, which is of course where this guy comes in.On the table in front of me is a custom -built, three -phase CPU cooling system that was designed to bring even modern power -hungry chips down to minus 100 degrees Celsius.It takes a lot of power, it makes a fair bit of noise, and it wasn't cheap.But when it comes to keeping a chip at a consistent, very cold temperature, which is ideal for overclocking, this thing is pretty much the GOAT.

But, using it comes with some... minor inconveniences chief among them being Condensation as you probably know water and electronics.They don't mix too good.So one of the things that we need to do isthoroughly insulate all of the cold parts of our cooling system from our motherboard itself.

The PCB is entirely coated with liquid electrical tape.Cool.Or plasti -dip, if you're able to get that.And then we have a heater in the back.

And that's just to make sure that if our CPU is at minus 100 degrees, we're not getting frost and liquid buildup on the back of the socket.So you can see, we actually shot the video out of order.We've already used it today.That's why it's covered in frost.But you can really see this way where water might drip down right around the CPU and into the socket, which would be bad.

It doesn't feel like an extension of your body like 1000Hz does.Like I know Blurbusters has been on this thousand Hertz holy grail for years at this point, wanting to push everyone from display makers to game developers to like pursue a thousand Hertz.Consider me converted and this is even without Instantaneous pixel response times like we would get from something like that like an OLED.

Yeah, right like this is LCD 1000 Hertz and comparing to the OLED that we were running the benchmark on it's I would say it's pretty tough to tell whether the added frame rates making any impact Compared to the you know clarity and pixel response times of an OLED.Yeah, so too many FPS is just breaks this game Apparently we did find that some games if they have a v -sync setting When you turn V -Sync on, it'll just go, oh, your refresh rate's 1 ,000.I guess I have to render 1 ,000.So that might be a solution here.

Dude, I don't think there's a game that I could not enjoy more at 1 ,000 Hertz than I would at less than 1 ,000 Hertz.Not because you need it to perform your best.I don't think realistically I actually performed any better in Counter -Strike for having a 1 ,000 Hertz monitor.But just because it's just, it's so good.Smooth, it's just so smooth.

Also, we were running all of this stuff at 6 .2 gigahertz all core, 1 .4 volts.That tells me that in terms of the gaming machine that you're gonna need to power these kinds of frame rates, we're a long ways off.
