The BBC's LATEST STUNT proves why the licence fee should be SCRAPPED

After a year of scandals, the BBC aired a four -minute advert.during the World Cup Association Football Final, titled, What Has the BBC Ever Done For Me?Attempting to extol the virtues of the licence fee after a year of scandals for a record number of people choosing not to pay it.But why wouldn't the people in this little film love the unending flow of cash from taxpayers going into their bank accounts?Last week, fascinatingly, the BBC revealed its top salaries, and some of them, of course, appear in this little broadcast.

It's a good question, Tracy, but you have got to ask, what has the BBC ever done for me?

Well, how much would you have to be paid to go out and say that for the BBC?Front and centre of the production is the comedian and presenter Romesh Ranganathan, who reportedly took home... £2 million.Bingo!Also making an appearance is BBC's News Chief Presenter, Clive Murray, who earned £320 ,000, relative pauper.The veteran reality TV host turned Radio 2 presenter, Vernon Kay, enjoyed a, wait for it, £405 ,000 paycheck, whilst Radio 4's Anna Foster's cameo followed £315 ,000 of your money, ka -ching, into a bank account, and that great stalwart of political reporting, somebody I greatly admire as it happens, Nick Robinson's worth every penny gets £335 ,000.And of course he's in favour of you paying the licence fee, because otherwise it might go down a bit.

The advert also showed myriad actors, dancers, comedians, presenters and punters, most of whom have benefited from comfortable licence fee funded incomes, of course paid for by you.But where was the declaration of interest?They're all over politicians' declarations, but feel free to be paid pontificators without making it clear to those like all of us who pay the licence fee.So to my mind, far from its aim of promoting the licence fee, I think the BBC has in fact proved further why it needs to be scrapped.It seems to me the ultimate self -locking, self -licking lollipop.
